Playstation Magazine Screens

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 10:32 pm

Maybe some kind of "city scaling" is in the game, you know, reduce the size of the city while the player is outside, and when he gets in, the city is a little bigger?

That would be terrible. It looks like we can step over some of those walls and into the city. That has to be a town.

Are you looking at the actual magazine? Most of us are dealing with low-quality scans, so it's not like we can make out much detail. What you're describing does sound daedric, but the whole guy looks brown in the scan I'm looking at.

I have the mag in my hands, and he looks Draugr to me, like the boss of a dungeon, so being the boss he is wearing this kickass armor

specially when the mag quotes "a sarcophagus in the middle of the room open, and a big, tough looking Draugr Overlord climbs out and attack", the screen is in the same page as that line, so maybe it's related

That's in a dungeon? All I can really see is fire everywhere.

Must be a two handed fire spell, like the one in the trailer.

I bet you $20 it's Whiterun, the central city in the hold of the same name, surrounded by tundra, and one of the 5 major cities of Skyrim.

The picture of the woman looking at the city is just great! It somehow feels like Rohan from LOTR movies.

Yeah and also, that's only one side of the city, what if there's more behind the big building.

I'm not sure, but between her right shoulder and the town, there seems to be a wall that is way further back. At least it doesn't look like a natural structure. If that is still part of the city wall, Whiterun would be gigantic.

I don't see what you mean. Still, the shape doesn't quite fit the shape on the map from earlier. http://www.thedragonborn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/skyrimmap.jpg So perhaps we can't see all of it.

Do you think the "world where the players don't have to eat" confirms no hardcoe/survival mode?

Or do you think it's possible there is one, but Bethesda told the journalists not to say anything about it until E3?

I don't know if this is the correct city, but I remember in the Pocket Guide To The Empire that there was a city divided by a wall in the middle, again I can't remember which was it.

Are you sure it was in Skyrim? Skingrad had that.

It was definitely in Skyrim, cant quite exactly remember which city was it, I would check, but I don't have my copy of Oblivion with me.

Did the single suit armour discussion yesterday get resolved or not?

Anyway these shots are amazing, its surprising that it's such a screenshot heavy article. The camp site one looks great and is my favourite of the lot I'm really looking forward to venturing out in to the wilderness. Every time they show NPCs they always look really detailed and rugged and that two handed axe actually looks pretty appealing, it looks like I might change my habit of generally only using blades... yes the city doesn't look *that* large but it doesn't really need to be big to be cool and varied, it certainly looks a lot more interesting that Oblivion's cities (it's on a hill for a start) and looks amazing as a panoramic view.

The charging, bearded, wonky-eyed Nord looks pretty cool, It looks like Bethesda really wants to get across the point of having more character customisation options. It definitely looks like he's got the same bass cuirass but a different pauldron than previous screens, but again that doesn't really prove anything... it would be pretty weird for Bethesda to release all these shots of NPCs with different pauldrons if you couldn't actually change them in the game though....

I see no Daedric armor in the screenshots.

One of the characters, a human male, is wearing http://cdnstatic.gamesas.com/akqacms/files/tes/screenshots/KhajiitTemple.jpg armor, although with a different helmet.

Actually now you mention it, he wears the same body armor but with different pauldrons! Just compare them! The pauldrons of the magazine pic are way bigger! Seperate pauldrons pretty much confirmed huh? And about the guy in Daedric Armor: I don't think it is a guy and I don't think it is wearing Daedric Armor. I think it is some kind of elite Draugr.

I think the single suit armour was resolved in the screenshots, as we've got seprate characters, same chest armour but different pauldrons.

That looks nothing like Daedric armor and if that is indeed what Daedric armor looks like in Skyrim, I am deeply disappointed. I don't think it looks any more evil than the daedric armor from past games. I'm not a fan of the helms with two horns.

I seriously doubt that is daedric armor. Everything looks impressive though.

The Whiterun screen is a good example of how the game will look better on PC. Although the draw distance for grass and shadows is quite far for consoles compared to Oblivion, I'm confident that you will be able to increase it by a lot more on the PC.
Just imagine the grass and weeds extending all the way to the city and even further, and the huge city actually casting shadows on the landscape. Would make this scene 3x more awesome.

Those screenshots are better than I could even imagine, especially the city-view is breath-taking. However, looking at it closely the environment looks kind of boring and empty. But yeah, it's a tundra, I assume.
