Playstation will devestate Brink

Post » Thu Sep 09, 2010 9:43 pm

I only own a Playstation, and was looking very forward to this game. However with the Playstation Network being down and who knows for how long, I am concerned about purchasing this game. This is so disappointing, because this game seems to be the start to a new generation of shooters. I looked forward to getting online and working as a team. I don't think this game will sell well due to the PSN being down, I know I have to pass (and this was a guranteed purchase for me) because I will be unable to jump online and play for weeks or maybe months.

I believe this game should of waited till the PSN was back up before it was released because this game looks great and could potentially have multiple sequels, but I believe the PSN being down will only reflect poor sales for Brink. This game is made for online play, although single player is included. Brink being a brand new game needs to be successful and it could not be releasing at a worse time.

So you want Bethesda to push the game's release back months, making the greater number of Xbox and PC players angry? No thanks bro, they don't have to cater to Sony just because there online servers weren't sufficiently protected.

Trade it in for a 360. You wouldn't be the first.

you realize this game has single player that is almost identical to multiplayer? just get the game, and use the weeks (no way in hell it will be months. i bet the [censored] government would intervene and bring it up if it was that long) to practice. the bots on Hard difficuly are actually good to play with it.

Honestly I am just getting pissed off at the amount of threads people make about giving up on PSN. If you want to give up, I don't give a damn, keep it to yourself, there is no need to make a thread about it.

Obviously, holding off the WHOLE game's release date just for PSN is a stupid idea.

Multiplayer is not the only option in Brink. In fact, singleplayer and multiplayer are exactly the same thing, just one is with bots. But it doesn't get in the way of your character's progress.

Also, you talk as if PSN being down will crush Brink's sales. First of all, PS3 had the least preorders of all 3 systems anyways, so they are obviously selling plenty, and most people who are getting Brink for PS3 don't care that PSN is down. We all know that it will be back up soon enough.

So you want then to what so that the system with the least amount of players could get on PSN? I think that it will have a strong launch whether the the PS3 existed or not, because that is how influential the PS3 is now.

How about just play it offline?
Bots seem to be smart, so it won't be a problem.

Playstation Network being down doesn't affect Brink's release in any way.

Also, as someone just had to mention switching consoles in this thread.. One has to be either immature or just naive when choosing to do so.

not to mention, it will only effect sales on ps3, the game will sell just fine on xbox and pc trust me. Doubt it will be the ebst selling game of the year or anything but still, i dont think thats really waht they are going for. With skyrim and rage coming out from just this publisher, they have plenty of other big hitters. honestly, if your hypothesis is at all correct, you should probably just sell your ps3 cuz no one is ever going to be playing again and all the devs have stopped making games for it forever :). could just wait til may 31 too........ when psn is supposed to be back up. Or sell your ps3 and get an xbox, its much better anyways, especially for online shooters. Its not like Brink is Cod and is expecting millions of copies gone in first day sales. Its a new IP and its going to do well because the game is fantastic (hopefully, even i preorderd, i never preorder). Its not so much that Brink is getn fd over by sony, its sony is fn over everybody. who wants to play socom offline? no mp for mk? If i owned a ps3, i would have sold it already, thank god I picked xbox.

Your addiction to online play is disturbing and also a bit shallow sir. Might I add that this game WAS NOT made for online play, it made made for the single player and multiplayer experience to be seamless.

(Estimates)
PC Sales = Highest
Xbox 360 Sales = Middle
Playstation Sales = Lowest

This would probably have been true regardless of PSN being down. PSN being down won't account for poor sales.
Just another Sony boy thinking the gaming world revolves around the Playstation.

I dont think it is a stupid idea, to hold of on the release date. This game is a brand new game, it is not Call of Duty which would mean it would have a large following. This game needs to sell well and be successful so that the Developers can profit and hopefull come out with a sequel. A game that is basically made for online gaming will not sell at all on the Playstation right now, I have spoken with several people who said they were planning on getting Brink but now they are just going to get LA Noire. Of course this is due to the fact that a majority of people would prefer to play this game online. I had this game preordered but cancelled my preorder because of the PSN being down. I am a huge fan of what I have seen of this game, I am in no way bashing the game. I just believe that Splash Damage needs to make sure and release this game at the right time, so they can make a large profit, especially with the effort that has went into developing a game of this magnitude.

Brink will suffer because of the PSN to me that is obvious and there are a few articles I have read speaking of this exact thing.

Brinks release date was chosen well before the PSN network went down. Brink has absolutely no tie into the issue. I would be mad at Sony not at Brink.

Uhhh....pretty sure there are still tens of thousands of preorders. That's a little bit more than not selling at all...

I am not here to have or start a console war. I am a really devoted fan to all video games and consoles so I will not go to your level and speak about which console is better, etc.... I am just concerned that a great game, which should sell very well is going to suffer greatly. I understand the xbox and pc has the highest percentage of people to purchase this game. However there is a large percentage of Playstation owners as well and many of them are not going to purchase this game because they will be unable to play online. Again please dont talk about which console is superior, I am not here for that and will not go to your level of debating and starting a console war. For game developers it is not about surviving it is about making a profit and now days Developers need all three (3) systems to make the most of their profits and with the PSN down there is no doubt the total sales of Brink will suffer.

This could be said about almost any PS3 game coming out that has online capability.

PSN being down won't affect sales nearly as much as this thread is stating. A game that was made for multiplayer and single player to be almost seamless still has the same allure as it did before PSN went down.

Well the articles weren't written by very intelligent people.

What difference would it make for Playstation if it release now or later? It's still available whenever PSN comes back up, so just buy it then? Does it really have to be "brand new" in order to buy it?

Yes Bethesda wants to make a large profit. Should they do that by delaying the release date, making the larger Xbox market angry and insulting the dedicated PC community? No. They'd be losing more sales delaying it then they would by catering to Playstation, just so people can get it brand new when the internet service is back up again.

Im not flaming 360 in any way, shape or form, but the fact that people are trading in their PS3's and purchasing a completely brand new system, (considering the fact that people bought new or used conoles) not to mention that you have to pay for Microsoft's service, they are wasting even MORE money, time, and energy. Then when PS3 comes back and offers nick nacks for FREE and GAMES, they will once again either trade their 360 or REPURCHASE PS3's all over again, it's a vicious circle. Long shot in a barrel JUST BE PATIENT. :shifty:
