A plea to Interplay

Post » Sun Jun 07, 2009 4:12 am

Please don't make the beta exclusive for North America from start! Alot of companies do this and then roll the beta to the other continents ignoring the fact that most people don't mind playing with a bit higher ping if it's a great game. Part of the testing should also include high ping behaviour :p so please please pleeeease, if you've considered this, don't!

And remember: if the apocalypse is global, the beta should be too! :D In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

It seems you just want to get your hands on the game rather than truly test it. From a testing perspective, at the beta level, where you're actually testing the game's mechanics more than anything, you really don't want to add another factor in there. Namely, high latency that derives from an unreasonable scenario where players are not playing on "appropriate" region servers. At that point, you're just asking for a bad experience.

here's the thing. i ping around 100 to US servers, alot of swedes do. i do not consider this to be a major issue that would make me a bad tester. most of the active people on this forum DO want the game to be the best there is and shouldnt be left out cause you think having the server close to you makes you a better tester. that assumption of yours that i just want to play the game is just pure BS and you really should think of what you're saying In gaming terms... I live in a central region of the Russia. And I have played D&D online on the US Eastern Coast servers about a month. The latency was about 150-200 ms. It is not significant for MMORPG. I always had a stable connection and noticed no lags. Excuse my bad English... I am a Russian bear, it's hard to type with claws.

There's all different kinds of 'testing' a Developer wants.

They need the constant reports from the 'testaholics', and the simple volume from the 'I get to play a free game' people.

Where 'long distance' testers fit.... I can only imagine is relevant to the potential of the 'long distance' market.

so you think the only market for a fallout mmo is where the developers are located?
you guys seem to know this and also you're able to judge who wants in on the beta just to play a free game... thats awesome.. In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

Your plea has been heard.

I don't personally know the plans for beta, or if there will be territorial restrictions, but I pledge to support no restrictions.

I want testers from all over and all different. I think it would add lots to the potential to the beta testing.

Just need to have very clearly defined testing rules, especially on reporting. (Clearly defined does not always mean strict or limiting. ;)

hehe that's great chris, thanks alot! :)

exactly, as long as people have good enough english to explain the problems they encounter and are willing to help the game forward, it's all great :) In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

Um, some guys mix up the stuff that beta testers do and what their QA team does... Hell, most beta testers doesn't even submit a single bug, unless it actually keeps them from completing a quest. The most valuable thing with betas for MMOs is to see if large groups of people are able to work together, which makes or breaks an MMO.
