My Plea to Splash Damage

Post » Tue Sep 21, 2010 11:05 pm

Brink is quite easily my most anticipated title this year. I pre-ordered the game as soon as I could on steam, have kept up on dev diaries, gameplay videos, and any other press releases I could. The fact of the matter is that this game has A LOT going on. It has great customization, a very cool method of movement, and being class and objective based is always a plus for me. All in all, I think this game could very easily go the way of Team Fortress 2, and I sincerely hope that it does. But for that to happen, the game will need to be supported in the way that valve chooses to support Team Fortress 2. Why do you think that game has such a large, loyal playerbase after all there years? Constant updates that were free, and substantially added to the content of the game. I know this is the age of DLC, and I know this game could go the flavor of the month route, being forgotten about by the developers after 6 months or so, but I hope that Splash Damage can learn from other successful game developers and copy that business model so that we can all get a truly great gaming experience.

They already have in my opinion.
Especially with their past titles.

But I hear you. I want to be able to play this game 6 years from now and look back wondering
where my life went because the game ended up being so awesome.

Edit: And welcome to the forum. If you haven't checked out the Unofficial FAQ, its in my sig.
Heres a :turtle:. This, also, is the http://www.fragworld.org/frag/community-blogs/brink-info-pt-1-story-gameplay-smart-classes-and-objectives.html. Lots of info in there.

moved the release back a week earlier? u mean forward
and they delayed it alot and have put alot of time and effort into this so it should be pretty bug free but they also had this thing they were talkin bout where they can implement fixes straight away form day 1 without having large updates required so should be all good

I am with u on this one.

Before they decided to release 1 week earlier we must remember that the official release was postponed twice, this game was to be release before 2011...

Yeah I know. Thats basically what I meant. A lot of people wish it would have been released earlier but, I'd rather have a polished game than one released early with a crap load of bugs.

AC3 is a PS2 game.

Unless you mean Assassin's Creed 3? In which case, not out yet...

Splash Damage has stated that they're going to be paying a lot of attention to the game after release, to tweak balance at the very least. I think they're a developer that wants to give their games the kind of love Valve does, and I just hope Bethesda is willing to support them in that. I think Valve's freedom to release all those class updates and endless hats has a lot to do with the fact they are their own publisher.

Calm down sir. They were fixing bugs and balancing the game so be patient. I'd rather have a pushed back but balanced game then a half-assed one with terrible bugs and OP guns and abilities. But hey the moved up the release from May 17-20 to May 10-13 so at least they've made progress.

As much as I'd love to see a game-support akin to the one Valve is showing, I doubt it.

Bethesda are better known for Addons and DLCs than for free content updates. And as the publisher they have a saying in what happens.

I also like how TF2 now has a marketplace where people can create things and sell them. adding something like this to brink would really add to it's replayability and variety. if it's possible I would really like to see that down the line.

if that's not possible i also to liked the type of support and dlc that little big planet had. I was always happy to spend money and support that LBP by buying dlc that let me customise the game and my character and add new levels and features. most of the time the LBP dlc was reasonably priced, it was released quite frequently and there was regularly free dlc. i actually spent a lot money on LBP over a long time spending small amounts at a time.

This wouldn't work well because everything needs to be conform with the artstyle of BRINK.

And most people probably wouldn't want to put too much effort into this. After all the graphics in BRINK are a lot more complex than in TF2.

Rev,i think you under estimate the determination some people have. when ever a game lets a community create it's own stuff, there are always people who create good stuff for free even if it's hard, time consuming, etc. look at LBP, Halo forge, the sims, minecraft, etc.

but there are people making around $40k creating stuff in TF2 marketplace for that fairly small customer base. i don't really believe there will be a lack of content if brink did do this. but saying that i don't think brink will do it. however it does seem like a perfect fit to me given how customisable brink is by nature.

True, but Bethesda is also know for good, quality DLC. The Shivering Isles was probably my favorite expansion to any game ever. :obliviongate:

My problem with paid DLC for games that are primarily multiplayer is that if only half of the players get the DLC, then you can only play the DLC half as often (in the case of maps), because there are far less players on the DLC maps than the originals.

I think I don't; after all this is one of the ways how people get into the whole business of making games.
But I can see a lot of people making what they want, not what the game needs. And then whine about their creations being rejected because they're too Sci-Fi- or Fantasy-esque.

That is also the weak point.
TF2 hats and weapons are a lot less complex than clothing items in BRINK. You basicly need access to all the other models so your creations do not interfere with the others (to avoid clipping errors for example).

If you're really dedicated to the whole modelling thing and create something you consider well worthy to be put into BRINK, you can always just contact the devs (on the twitters, for example) and ask for their opinion about your creation.

Yea and how long have you been waiting with immense anticipation? I have watched it been pushed back several times. Now they move it forward so huzzah :celebration:

Also that is a court case I am sure you will lose.
