Please add the option of a health meter!

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:53 pm

Call me old fashioned, but I grew up on Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Tribes and Unreal. Along with knowing how much Ammo and Armor I have I also enjoy knowing how much Health I have. I loathe bloody screens, I think copying Modern Warfare 2 with its Strawberry Jam Filled Screens is horrid. It's an ugly design choice and it doesn't tell you jack about your current health.

I'm not asking ID to scrap it's jelly smearing system, I'm sure it's already completed and was decided on long ago. Just please give me the option to turn it off and have a classic health meter on the bottom. This will mark the first ID game since Commander Keen to not include a health meter. And while change can be good following suit with all the consolized candyass shooters is a bad choice. ID Software shouldn't follow trends, it should set them. And while everything in Rage looks fantastic I'm bothered that the only way you can know how much health you have is by estimating how much blood appears on the screen.

+1 !!!
I hate "modern warfare" health system. I hope to see health bar. I hope to see power up-s like Redneck Rampage!!! That Are Very Important for the gameplay.

"Like most first-person-shooters, it offered a variety of ways for the character to regenerate health or hit points. These power-ups consisted of the allegedly redneck related moon pies, pork rinds, beer and liquor." - Redneck Rampage wiki

I agree... Look how bad Resistance 2's health system was compared to Resistance 1, it was horrible!

I love health bars, it shoudl regenerate very slowly on it's own thought but items can help make it go faster.

And it's not 'modern warefare' health system, it was in the Original Call of Duties also (you know the good ones).

I want health bars like from back in the day (Quake, Doom etc) , I'm tired of blood on the screen thing going on every time you get hurt.

You do realize that the first COD to feature regenerative health was COD2, right? Are you messing with COD2? :toughninja:

I always thought a fighting game system could work well in a fps, where you get your initial health and the bar of which your health could regenerate to, so if you keep getting shot the usual would happen you'd lose health but whilst you lose health your regen bar goes down more slowly.. So if the regen bar hits 50 my health could only regenerate back to 50 instead of the full 100, but if I were to get back to the full 100 it would be replenished via. health packs. I always thought a system similar would work really well in a fps.

So it's gonna have screen blood?

Then for the love of Bruce Willis yes to an optional health meter!!
I absolutely HATE the screen blood that is suppose to indicate damage taken.
Immersion ischmersion, gimme a real statistic for health.

I like the regenerative health bars. I understand why some people don't like them, but they just feel streamlined (in a good way), and takes a lot of the trial and error out of a genre that is about moment to moment action. Just my two cents.

I would prefer a healthbar too, without any regeneration. I know how to manage my health, thank you very much. Besides Tim clearly says in the interview that we can choose regen or a bar. So the whining is kinda moot.

I just hope, nay, prey it's not the kind of health system in most action games where there's no health meter because you don't need one. If you're getting hurt you just take cover and your health goes back up to full automatically. I can't tell you how much I hate that.

Rage looks absolutely awesome so far, but if there was one thing that would put me off buying it it's that. That and checkpoint save instead of quick save.

I like BRINK's health bar... it takes forever for it to recharge, but even though it's not to full capacity or full capability (when you have buffs). So a medic near by (or a self buff) is necessary.

Yeah, but I think it recharges.

I know in Rage HD (for the iPhone 4), you have a health bar, and I love it... so much more challenging than just camping for 5 seconds...
