Please, Beth, Please make Daggerfall for Nintendo DS

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:05 pm

When I saw a video for a new DS game coming out called Fighting Fantasy: Warlock of Firetop Mountain, the graphics reminded me incredibly of Daggerfall..... imagine carrying that amazing gaming goodness in your pocket!!!!

Soo...... please? You'd make millions.

I think the DS cartridges only hold like, 512 MB max. Isn't daggerfall bigger than that? Edit- nevermind, apparently it's 148MB...
Still, it's never been on a console or portable device, it would take a lot of effort for them to get it on there, and even then I think the controls would be awkward. Plus, I just don't seem them doing all that work on something so old.

Also, for a more personal opinion on this idea, HAHAHAHAHAHA, no.

I doubt they'd remake Daggerfall like that, especially since they've released it freeware for PC. Perhaps they could make a spinoff game instead (like those TES Travels).

It would be nice for a TES travel game.

DS has plenty of first person games, so the controlling would be ok, not saying the greatest.

It would be cool but it will never happen, Daggerfall had a lot of bugs and would take to much time to port over, it would be better to make a complete new one. I'm also looking forward to Fighting Fantasy DS, it really looks like an Elder Scrolls although it won't have a large world to explore, for that we need a real Elder Scrolls DS! Maybe when Big Blue Bubble has finished Fighting Fantasy they can have a deal with Bethesda to make an Elder Scrolls Travels DS, reusing the engine of Fighting Fantasy!

Yeah, I think a new TEST game in the mold of Daggerfall would be far more likely than a more direct port, particularly with Daggerfall already available for free on the PC.

Some of the early screenshots of Shadowkey actually used some Daggerfall art for placeholders :)

That's an encouraging fair marketing technique...

It would be awful on the DS. First of all, you need a keyboard to play DF, just doesn't work without it. Second, they would implement there touch screen mechanics thus ruining Daggerfall, thus making me hate Bethesda.

...have you played it on anything other than a keyboard? If not, how can you definitively say that it only works on one?
(this isn't even mentioning that the attack mechanics are VERY well suited to the touch screen)

I know sheerly because of the number of required buttons. And the stencil screen would be awful

My agrument is conjecture because I KNOW that Daggerfall has 32 keys and a mouse to play while the ds only has ten buttons and a stencil screen?

And it's fail simply because you just decide it is? CHEERS!

Don't get your hopes up folks. Anecdotally they've lost the source code when moving to a bigger office.

Meh, it's already freeware on PC and I would prefer to play it on PC. Don't understand why you would pay $30 for a direct port of a game that's over 15 years old when it's already free. Maybe if Bethesda fixed it up and added some extra features but I doubt it.

I'd love to have a huge game like Daggerfall that I could play for years when I'm on the move somewhere. Besides, sitting on the train I'm much less picky about graphics or general game technology than when I'm at home and have a huge selection of technologically superior games to play.

The above may change if I get an Eee ;)

TES on DS would be heaven! Finally an RPG worth playing on the DS! What I'm asking myself: is it possible to convert the game ourselves to a NDS? In case Bethesda wouldn't care to do this for us.

Copy-paste from another thread, but I think it illustrates my point. :)

I would buy that, but would the DS be able to handle daggerfall on a technical scale?

If the DS can't handle it I doubt the Iphone could. Plus it would be a challenge to get a good interface and control scheme working on the iphones small touch screen.

Trust me, the DS could handle it, and then some. Although I'd prefer a remake, rather than a straight port, (for example, they could make things a bit more "modern", such as how you can't tell when someone's supposed to be an elf in the original, and the whole "Atronach/golem" thing could be resolved- plus they could give us playable Imperials) but I'd be happy either way really.

For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgNcVoxyHAk&feature=related, and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX4rEgBzsp8. If you ask me, both games are far superior, graphically speaking, than Daggerfall.

It would be plauseble to bring DF to a ds game there is already a game with sort of the same melee fighting mechanism who already done it but it need first a lot of editing like make a suitble and easy to invetory/spell box and make easy to use game play mechanism were you downgrade the number of keys to only a few easy to use hotkeys/menu's wich is posible but because spending so much time on editing and the cost of brining it on the market and with the now free pc version so there will be only a few intrested its not econimical responcible
thats why i see it very unlikly to see df on ds i either think like most people that they will make a sort of spinn of sooner then tranfer df to ds
but you never know

ps sorry for bad grammer
