Please Bethesda, add better "leader" dialogue for Mi

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 11:12 pm

The fact that settlers treat you like a total stranger is really starting to get to me. Yes, I can technically order them around, but when they blurt out something that's borderline insulting as part of their ambient dialogue, it really ruins everything. An example, if you're traveling with Preston:

Settler: "Hey, you're Preston Garvey! You and the Minutemen are great!"

Preston: "Thank you"

SS Walks Up: "Hey there."

Same Settler: "The hell do you want, scavver?"

Me: T_T

It's not just this either. There are a few instances where I'd like to be acknowledged as a faction leader. One is where Piper is listing off the potential enemies of the Institute. Even if you've already done most of the main stuff for rebuilding the Minutemen, you ask about them as though you've never heard of them before.

It is annoying. Also, a perfect role-play opportunity. A rifle-butt to the face will teach him who the Minutemen General is!

This really drives me crazy. I like the concept of the Minutemen faction. I think it's great and I think it has SO much potential...but it's unfinished. I'll get sent to the same place for multiple radiant quests, which is fine. What is annoying is the fact that every time I go clear out the ghouls or rescue the kidnapped settler or whatever, I get the same dialog..."We've talked it over and we've decided that we're going to support the Minutemen. We've gotta stick together out here."

Yeah. I got it. You joined the Minutemen 5 quests ago, and every time in between then and now.

"I don't like the looks of you. Hope you're not here for me."

I'm the damn General! Come on now. I literally built your home from the ground up. I planted your crops. I built you a huge water purifier and did an insane amount of electrical work for you. I lined this place with turrets to keep you safe. I've rescued three of your kidnapped buddies and killed ghouls, raiders, and super mutants for you. You don't LIKE THE LOOKS OF ME!?

This really gets to me. I understand that settler dialog has to have some limitations. They can only record a finite amount of it, but the amount that's there currently seems so incredibly small. There's almost no variation in it. Each settler model just has like 5-6 scripted lines. Some of the named settlers have a few more on top of that.

Exactly. Would it have killed them to record 2 or 3 more lines from the very small handful of settler voice actors? I would have been happy with, like, 3 lines:

"Always nice to see you."

"Need anything done, sir/ma'am?

"We're grateful for all that you've done."

Bam. 3 short, easy lines that would have done the job.

Exactly. This is all I'm asking for. There should be 'pre-general' and 'post-general' dialog, or in the event of settlements that haven't been unlocked, there should be 'locked' and 'unlocked' dialog for each settlement. Some type of acknowledgement of the fact that they're already in the Minutemen and that I'm the general of the Minutemen would go a long way.

Love it! Love everything about it. It's annoying as hell when you consider the BOS initiates, scribes, knights all acknowledge you when you become a Knight/Sentinel. Meanwhile, the MM completely ignore your rank & accomplishments.

Add an option to slap Rhys after you become sentinel as well. Seriously, they add Rhys apologizes, but they don't even bother to give him new lines so he would respect you instead of insulting and treating you like an initiate?

Just reducing him to some generic greeting would go a long way. He's no the only one, not by a long chalk. But as I said, after spending more than a decade with Bethesda, I'm not holding my breath that they're ever learning the simple lesson of how not to annoy the player via dialogue.

I'd rather have an option to send Minutemen to do Minuteman-related jobs for me. Like rescuing that spouse/friend/sibling that's been kidnapped 37,652 times. Or defending that settlement that already has over 200 defense but still gets attacked over and over and over again.

What good is being the general if you can't order troops to do something.

Eh, this has been an issue in every BGS game where you can become the leader of a faction. Being the leader of a faction essentially does nothing aside from ending that faction's quest line. It would be a lot cooler if you could actually give the faction orders, were needed to make decisions or otherwise manage the faction, etc.

Those smart ass caravan guards irk me the most. Can't do anything about it or the trader won't trade with me anymore.

Thankfully, Diamond City guards help redeem the guard population. At least they know who you are. ]:

Also when you make the radio beacon, the sole survivor sounds kinda timid like travis, it would be cool as you progress the the minutemen quest line he gets more enthusiastic and sure of himself.

Well, as I elaborated above, this would also apply to locked vs. unlocked settlements.
