haha, exactly 50% of votes each way. conclusive!
but seriously i don't really agree with this, if it was to quick, i would just get lazy and be tempted to wait far to much, and then regret it because i have made the game boring with my own bone-idleness

please Bethesda, don't place temptation in my path :)

Sorry for sounding nerdy, but as long as we're teaching him, it's Post Scriptum, from latin.

The word script is derived from the Latin word scriptum and since we are speaking English here the English derivative "script" is correct.

In Latin it would be Scrīptum Postis

I don't see anything wrong with it... Though, perhaps it could allow for finer granularity. In addition to 1 hour intervals the original Fallouts allowed for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, Morning, Noon, evening, and to wait until healed.

Developers don't purposefully make loading times long just to jab you in the side. It's that way because things are happening while time is passing. In Morrowind, as you referenced, the only thing that changed over time were some mild scripts, most of which just functioned to trigger journal entries. In Oblivion people are moving about, changing cells, doing things, possibly even fighting, etc. They can't simply jump ahead to where they would be when you wake up - that's not really how it works, and certainly won't be in Skyrim. If that time was simply shot forward, the game would get crazy with temporal problems because they didn't do any tasks during the mean time. Unfortunately the work has to be done, and although you and I may normally walk through our days, we have the option to run from point A to B, or even sprint to get through it quickly, but there is a limit to how fast we can do these things. Computing is the same way. You can rest assured that the parts we want to go fast won't take any longer than they need to be, but they will still require some time.

If you're going to decide to wait for 3 in-game days, it should bore you a little bit or take longer than you'd like. TES are heavy into immersion, so try sitting there and wait 3 days in real life and tell me that's not boring. To match immersion, waiting shouldn't be near instant like Morrowind.

I can understand that you people think that this can't be done, because of NPC times schedules, but the attitude of some people 'No, because... er.... NO!' is a little harder to understand.

Doesn't bother me much either way, but I kind of like the few seconds it takes. Gives a slight feeling of time passing.

Seeing your character sleep for a few seconds would be cool... or a fast-motion view out of the window, watching the stars move across the sky.

Personally, I think half the people are just saying no because poor Deagonx here had the gall to say "I think everyone can relate to" in his topic title.

People get very -spiteful- when you speak for them, around these parts.

I, for one, was ANNOYED that it took longer to wait and rest. I understand why... because it had to load a lot of changing data in that time... but still. I -hope- that it goes a bit faster.

I can still CANCEL with escape-key or something, right?

If waiting a few seconds instead of minutes/hours of real time is such a bother to you (why are you spending so much time waiting anyway?) you might need to get out more. Seriously, does everything have to happen the instant you want it to? It would become as immersive as instant fast travel. While convenient, it ruins the feeling of being in a large, alternate world. Perhaps there should be a separate skill for "time manipulation" where you travel through time instantly!

Voted no, because I used that time waiting to light up my ciggie, have a drink etc. :P I honestly never noticed it being too long or anything. I'm sure if they can speed things up they will, but I'm not fussed either way (and there's no way they'd make something like that toggleable, it's just too random and essentially pointless).

I agree with you.
I remember waiting two weeks for the Imperial Dragon Armour. The horror!

Thats one example.

As stated, I think that the engines have evolved enough for it not to talk that long, or even be a bit faster.
I understand that the scripts need time to load, assuming it is how you say.

It could work like this, the wait time goes on very fast, and depending on the scripts it needs to load, it could have a loading screen. Personally I think the prospect of the wait bar being the loading bar is frustrating, and doesn't make much sense.

Its a mental thing, I would just take the waiting much easier if it was in an actual bar, not short intervals that hardly tell me how much time is left :P

i think their logic was if they made the wait time longer it would discourage waiting so you could experience the world.
this is obviously flawed because its just an annoyance so yes, i agree with you, op.

Thank you for expressing your opinion without being an SOB.

I'm not entirely sure about that, but if it was I think we should atleast have the option to be lazy. Its like what they did with the training system, its cool and all that you limited it. But if I want to actually SPEND my overabundances of gold on specialized training to make myself stronger, I should have that right.

Yes, I would like for wait and sleep times to be quicker. And yes it should definitely be an option in the menu, something as simple as the old pokemon games where you chose what speed dialogue went at, except its the speed of wait time instead.

Can't agree, the speed of the wait timer has never even come close to taxing my patience. Not even when waiting 2 weeks in 24-hour increments for the Imperial Dragon Armor. It's something I use occasionally, and the entire point of it is to be "waiting" but speed the wait up a bit, I don't mind waiting a little.

But you don't have any "rights" at all, beyond the right to decide whether or not to buy/play the game. Unless I missed the memo about the Gamers' Bill of Rights being adopted...but I'm pretty sure that hasn't happened as yet.

I believe the wait takes long to allow someone to cancel it if they have accidently selected to wait too long.

I usually just click some random high amount of time and then cancel it when the time reaches what I was waiting for.

Well, if it is commander, would the optional thing not fix that?

No here's why.... If waiting a MINUTE like you were saying really annoys you, then I am very sorry you are that impatient. I thought that it went by pretty fast, I agree morrowind's was faster, but still.... it really didn't take that long.

Do these games allow or support arriving at a certain time and place for a triggered event? Say like to witness a ghost that only appears at 1AM under a specific tree (for sake of example).

Sure, but I am not sure if it is worth the developers time adding the option.

I do agree that it can be annoying waiting, for example having to wait many days in a row when doing the commentaries books.

Also, I have one reason I am almost CERTAIN that it is not because of processing time.

When I fast travel across the world, it takes a decent amount of ingame time when I arrive. But the loading screen takes less than 5 seconds.
So yeah..

Not real sure what you're getting at- but TES works (at least prior to Skyrim) exactly like Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Wait timer, set in 1-hour increments up to 24 hours "per wait."
