I don't see any 5 year old children on these forums, and I don't think it's fair to bash younger folks because they're younger than you, that's arrogant. I've seen more "advlts" complaining about stupid things on these forums. Please don't assume because one's younger they're less intelligent, or mature. Like I said, that's arrogant.

... You know, sometimes I think it'd be better to not have a forum altogether. Just let the devs make the game that feels right and good to them, rather than the game they think people want.

IT's funny you say that since 90% of the users here are constantly making new threads on hardcoe modes, "NO LEVEL SCALING!!!" and "FAST TRAVEL LIKE MORROWIND!!". That doesn't sound like "kids"/casual to me...

It depends what age you're talking about...after advlthood what you say could be applied, sure, but its simply rational to assume someone 30 years old is more mature than someone who is, say, 12 years old, at least in the vast majority of cases. Nothing arrogant about logic.

And of course, we are all equal, regardless of age. I hate how ageism always has to permeate these kind of discussions. 5, 40, 100 years old - we are ALL equal. No need to bash yourselves because you're not part of the youth crowd, or on the other hand, raise yourself above it...

That being said, it would be a huge step backward if they didn't voice over the entire game. That's just a staple of the industry at this point, and it should be expected of any game that wishes to enter the running for GotY. I agree with everyone though, that more voice actors, at least one or two for every single race, would be hugely welcome.

I hope people realise that they include 16 to 20 years old people in the kids. dont misinterpret what the dev said just because of a word he used. just look at all the list bethblog showed. those top 10 most wanted [censored] written by pc gamer and those magazine they were all claiming they wanted more voice actors and stuff like that and guess what? the writers for those magazines are not 7 years old kids they are 30 years old people. he just said kid like a metal band talk about kids when talking about their fans even if they are mostly 25 years old +

Yeah, voice acting. How laughably casual. I think that Skyrim should be a table top RPG. That should satisfy all of the righteous purists.

Yes, you are right. But it seems to me, the wealthier a company gets, the more opportunity there is for them to take a risk and make an atypical game - insofar that if they fail, the consequence isn't that harsh for the future of said company.

... Or maybe it is just me clinging to mad mad hope. :P

I'm afraid it might be mad, mad hope. On the contrary, indie developers are almost universally more likely to take risks in their games than huge hitting companies with pushy publishers and massive amounts of money riding on their games.

90% of the users wanting hardcoe mode is excessive... Let's just say a valiant minority is trying to fight back the tide. :toughninja:

... :lmao: No, seriously, you are absolutely correct. There is a huge discrepancy between what I have said and what I do. And while a lot of us are indeed here just for the kick of speculation and insane waiting for updates, we *do* all hope the devs are paying attention to some points. Guilty as charged ! :P

Makes sense too... Young penniless companies can make a name by taking risks ; bigger companies work on a more conservative mode. Works both ways... So indeed, it all comes down to what we want to currently believe.

Frankly, I don't see why they wasted so much money on big names in Oblivion. Hell, I literally live about 15 minutes from them, I'd gladly voice a few parts for free. They could do so much with just local volunteers.

Agreed. Sean Bean wasn't even good.

Because voice acting is so easy that random people from the street can produce high quality voices.

There is a huge price difference per line between actors as renowned as Sean Bean and unheard of voice actors. The latter are still proficient at what they do, but they don't svck up 50% of the budget.

Nobody's advocating picking people off the street to play Esbern.

...i cant help but laugh when you tell the "kids" to get smarter... yet here you are BELIEVING SOMETHING YOU FOUND ON WIKIPEDIA.

thats about as not-smart as you can get...

i doubt bethesda would do anything that they thought would be too much trouble, have you noticed that some stuff countless people request, are not in the games? such as destructible environments, guns, building houses, and several other things...

yet here they are saying they'll be using alot more voice actors... hell, they make every game by completely building back up from scratch, that in itself has got to be difficult, if they wanted to stick to the easy stuff, they would make every game like arena, completely randomized and no detail put into most things!

i hope a mod closes this, because this thread is beyond stupid, being based on something posted on wikipedia... a site that anyone can edit, a site where these "kids" you're referring to, probably put that text on there that you just wrote!

unless there is a video or a post from that guy somewhere on here saying he doesnt want the game to be entirely voiced?

It's not the fault of voice acting in general that made oblivion's voice overs svck, it was Bethesda for not hiring enough voice actors.

Dragon Age was fully voiced and it had fantastic voice work throughout.

The time of text based dialogue in a AAA game is over.

Oblivion didn't nearly fill a dual layer DVD. It wasn't problems with space that BGS had then, it was budgeting.

I agree but you can't just change a consumer base's preferences with a thread like this.

I don't think children are going to think "OMG, that's so true! I have to send a letter to all my favorite game studios and tell them I'm sorry!"

And besides they need to make the game more appealing to the general public if they aren't going to fall behind on such a competitive market.

I like voice acting, I really do. The problem for me though, is that I rarely listen to the voice acting, because I would rather read what they are saying because it takes them too damn long to say it.

^ same with me. most of the time I just skim the 'captions' and skip ahead.

We don't want the game that devs want to make. We don't. We want a game that WE want. Because we're the end users here.
It is a very healthy practice for game developers to listen to the gamers and project the demands into the game within reasonable range.
You'd think Bethesda would know how Elder Scroll should be and what would truly satisfy the players, but let me tell you this; we do not even know the number of hairs on our own skulls. Although I do respect Bethesda and the staffs, it is important to keep in mind that they are human beings with human limitations. Without healthy amount of feedback and suggestion, it is possible that they might take a wrong way that won't please any one of us.
In the other hand, who are YOU to tell your fellow consumers to not give their opinions? Didn't they pay for the game just as you did?

for the love of god please tell me you didn't skip Lucian lachance

and I do think kids today kinda just wanna kill stuff in video games, have no actual story behind it, I get so mad at my friend whenever he plays Fallout or Oblivion, because he skips through all of it, then he asks, what do I do now?

but truth be told the average gamer is 30, and 1 in every 4 gamers are 50, so companies will listen to the older generation

also I think the older generation is making a big deal out of anything new, they mainly think that anything besides Morrowind is the devils work, I even set up a poll (long ago) that asked which of the games AI was better, Morrowind, Oblivion, or Fallout. Morrowind got 8 votes

Personally one of the things I thought was great about Skyrim was that they planned on adding a ton of new voice actors. I think this adds significantly to the realism of the game, it gives the NPCs much more personality. One of the annoying, though funny, things about oblivion was when you'd hear the words "Thank you, kind sir" in the same voice no matter who said it. I look forward to and am grateful for the large expansion of voice acting.
