Please Dont Be Dumb TESO

Post » Thu Jan 16, 2014 10:49 am

Please dont Fall like EA and have a real open beta. If your launch fails you will lose so many players. Most gamers have been so fed in the butt last 2 years from AAA games

Diablo 3

Simcity 2013

BF4

ect.....

All had no or little real beta and their releases now have EA being Sued by 4 as of yesterday law firms/shareholders. Please do not rush and have a real open Beta. Or else your going to find yourself in F2P mode very soon.

Thankfully EA isn't involved in ESO, so no worries there.

True. Lets hope they are smart enough to understand how many MMO's die cause of a buggy release. Many many many.

Could you imagine if it was though? $19.99 to be able to fight dragons. An extra $5.00 would get them to come in different colors! $10.00 could get you a "funny dragon voice" pack where they say funny things as you fight them.

Agreed. Google EA exec wants to charge for bullets in BF5...... Which is already halfway done after BF4 was released 2 months ago lol.

EA is the destroyer of games and previously successful franchises. Thankfully Zenimax remains independent and has the financial resources to continue to remain independent.

Sorry to be that guy but, Zenimax Online is not independent, it's owned by Zenimax Media.

Bethesda is now the last bastion of hope for games for that I love, IMHO. And yes, Zenimax Media owns every company - but it doesn't seem to be having an adverse effect yet. I applaud them for their long run, as well as the good doctors for their excellent attitudes towards gaming and their fans and the games they made before they were shackled by EA.

Zenimax Media is not EA though, and they've given ZOS quite a lot of freedom for this development.

Seriously, anything they touch is ruined...I'd just go ahead and sell my gaming rig if somehow EA had any doings with ESO...I'd just freaking quit...I want a good MMO so bad :(

This is basically the reason why I spend more energy to look through the indie scene, more dedication, more soul. There are lots of games that are very interesting, like Underrail and Age of Decadence. Two of the games I look forward to the most.

As much as I'd like to check out the Open Beta and see what actually ships, I'd recommend that they only give access to the Open Beta to people who pre-order.

Why should anyone pay to play an unfinished product? Let alone pay to stress test their game for them?

Nacko, Uh yeah that is my point. I never said Zenimax Online was independent and assumed that everyone would realize that when I referred to simply Zenimax they would understand I was referring to the parent corporation Zenimax Media. Sorry for the confusion.

So what you are saying is that if it 'fails' then the developers are to blame?

There will be an open beta. You will get to try before you buy.

If Open Beta is seen as an "unfinished product" or a product that still needs to be stress tested, then ZES will have failed miserably... especially considering all the effort that they are putting into the Closed Beta sessions. Open Beta is a dress rehearsal, it should be a tease to get people on the fence to bite or an incentive to pre-order. Personally I think the latter makes much more financial sense at this point for Zenimax.

Well before you were saying that the EA games fail because of EA, but it won't be the same here because ZOS gave freedom to the developers. If so then who is to blame if it fails?

Beta is unfinished, I thought that was common knowledge. Beta tests are used to either stress test the game, find and fix bugs or to test a feature and sometimes all at the same time. Open beta is simply the term used for a beta version that can be accessed by everyone to get as many people as possible to test the game before final release, and most of the time it's used to stress test the servers. Yes, it has become a marketing thing but that doesn't erase the fact that the game is still unfinished. And I personally don't want to pay for anything that is unfinished.

Actually I never said those EA games have failed, I personally dislike most games that EA are involved in making, with some exceptions.
There are many many reasons why a game would fail, I'm not going into that debate because it's never ending.

Well it sure seems to me that the main culprit around these parts is critics with misinformation a distant second.

I wonder if EA will catch Bethesda napping when it comes to consoles if they make a decent RPG with the latest "Dragon Age" installment.

Critics with misinformation is a contributing factor to be sure.
Critics wanting the game to be completely different with less than 3 months until launch is another category of bread basket ;)
