Please Fix maccready's perk. It Breaks the Game.

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2015 11:36 pm

Dear Bethesda,

I am a big fan of your latest entry in the Fallout series and have put many extensive hours into the game. However, I recently acquired the companion perk associated with “Mccready,” and as it stands it is completely broken in terms of gameplay and overall progression. The perk, as it reads, is only supposed to provide a 20% increase to VATS head shot accuracy, but instead (as noted from various reedit pages on the issue), the perk provides a 2000% percent increase making headshots now a guarantee hit from any distance with any sort of ranged weapon. This makes any enemy encounter a breeze to deal with no matter the difficulty setting. Some say just to not use headshots in VATS or only when enemies are close, but this is not a solution. Players should not have to change how they play due to a glitch, bug, or error in coding. Those who have invested highly in the perception branch have in a way wasted their time due to this perk negating much of the value of various perks in that tree that increase accuracy. Not to mention that those who also invested in the luck and accuracy branches, which rely on VATS as well, now feel overpowered and broken because of this one perk. Even I, who has not invested much into any of these trees, feels broken with this perk. This completely breaks progression in terms of incentive value and character uniqueness, now seeing that everyone be a headshot shooting god in VATS. So for now, I cannot bring myself to continue to play this great game until this bug is addressed through an official patch, since moding is unavailable for console users that may be able to solve the issue with a quick fix. So please Bethesda, I implore you to please fix this game breaking bug so that I, in good conscious as a gamer, may return to the Commonwealth.

Thankyou,
-Fallout Player

It doesn't "break the game." Cut the hyperbole.

It'll be fixed. Until then, I'll be laughing aboard the pain train to headshotville.

Actualy mod has already fixed it few weeks ago, so OP if you are PC user i suggest going to Nexus and getting the fix(its just a simple number change atm mod gives 2000% increase instead of 20% so eventhough the fix is made without official moding tools it should still be safe to use)

Other option for the OP if he plays on PC and doesnt wish to use a mod to fix ir is to use the console command and remove the perk(not perfect solution but still better than having 2000% broken increase)

The only thing that kinda suprises me this wasnt actualy fixed in the first official patch since its a very simple fix, shouldnt take more than few mins to do for someone that has apropriate tools(took mooders without proper tools couple of hours to identify the issiue and fix it)

Well point is while it doesnt break the game in sence of making save corupt or blocking your progres it does certanly make it much less fun and super easy.(so while it may be fun for 15 mins it def has a serius impact on your savegame)

Don't mix up your terms. This isn't a game breaking glitch.

And damn, I haven't really traveled with MacCready much yet. I might have to start. I'd love to have this perk lol

It drives me crazy sometimes. I can get headshots all day long outside of V.A.T.S., but it seems like they miss in V.A.T.S. the majority of the time.

I love when people call something that they chose a "game breaker". Here's an idea. Either choose a different companion, or don't complete his quest line to gain the perk.

Breaks it for me.

Didn't take him with me rather than ruin the game.

Henny Youngman:

Patient says, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

Doctor says, "Then don't do that!"

But Youngman understood it was a joke, not a valid response.

Have you considered just not getting the perk?

The problem is getting him to like me enough to actually have it available. Since I won't steal it makes it tough. He hates it when I'm nice to people, he hates it when I won't steal and he hates that I gather things to junk. He does like it when I kill raiders and pick locks though. It's a long haul with this guy. A shame really. He's kinda cute and a real [censored] (which I like!).

Don't shoot anyone in the head in VATS until it gets fixed.

Problem solved.

Enjoy your gaming.

While it may not be a game breaking glithc, it ruines the expeirence to those who do not want to have a cake walk. Also, I am playing on ps4, so a mod will not work for me to fix it.

Also the "just don't shoot people in head argument till fix" equates to chaning my gameplay style and how I play, which is something I should not have to do just becasue a glitch. And also I was not aware of this glitch before I got the perk, like many others. Most official sites do not mention that this perk is glitched.

Sounds like he's a tricky one. So far I've managed to romance Piper, Cait, and Curie, and I've reached maximum affinity with Preston, but didn't pursue the romance option. I've barely traveled with Codsworth at all the entire game, so I've been traveling with him lately to max out his affinity. I might go pick up MacCready after I do that and get started on it.

I kind of dislike how the game basically makes you play out of character depending on which companion you're with. Piper, Curie, and Preston all fell right into my playing style. They like it when you help people and be an all around good person. With Cait she wants you to use chems, pick pockets, steal, pursue violent dialog options, and all kinds of stuff that's a bit out of character for me. It obviously makes sense that different companions would have different likes and dislikes, but it's frustrating when you just want to get all the perks lol

So to get the MacCready perk should I just kind of play the same way that I did to get the perk from Cait?

Me, I like that the game give us companions who we may not get along with. I guess if your urge to min/max conflicts with your desire to rp, it presents a problem.

Then no bug is ever game breaking; you just need to not attract the bug and then...

My sniper build guy doesn't use vats, he's old school and scorns those techno snipers who rely on technology to be effective, having the wind on his face and the light behind him is second nature after many years of surviving where others have died.

And there you have it

Dear Bethesda,

If this is a glitch, please do not fix it. I would love to have 2000% better headshot accuracy in VATS.

Actually, I have to agree with you. I find, when sniping that VATS is relatively useless. I use my scope. You're just too far away for VATS to be truly effective.

Me too, but, on 3 playthroughs I just can't get McReady's affinity high enough to get it though. I wish I could be a thief, but the guilt gives me hives and all that scratching lowers my affinity with the rest of the group. :)
