Please fix "Melee when Shooting"

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:30 pm

The ONLY serious issue I'm still having with MP is this. At random every so often when shooting I will melee. It is DEFINITELY not me accidently pressing the right thumb stick. I've tested out running around and lightly pressing it, and no melee. It only happens in a firefight. I've seen it happen to players I've played against as well.

You will get someone in your sights, line em up, pull the trigger gun will start to fire then all of a sudden for no reason you will do a melee mid firefight and then usually end up dead.

Its frustrating as its very random. I've noticed it doesn't happen when you unlock a new gun for a while (or perhaps just coincidence?) then it starts happening. Is it when you add certain attachments?

I've tested three controllers out, tested shooting without my thumb being anywhere near the right thumb stick and it still happens.

I know others have what they might see as "bigger issues" but I don't suffer lag, most games are great fun and I really like the game. But this "bug" or whatever it is, is beginning to annoy me more and more. And I've seen it happen to lots of people I'm playing against to, they'll have me cornered be firing I'm about to drop and they'll suddenly melee and I'll kill them. Then you hear the swearing in frustration.

Please, please fix this!

I actually have more of an issue with not being able to shoot after meleeing. There's a delay that seems a tad too long and I can never time it right. Thus I get killed while meleeing more often than not.

@OP

You are pressing the melee button unconsciously, trust me. It's not the game. Your tensing your fingers when your in a gunfight.

I did it ALL THE TIME when I was new to the game, now I NEVER do it. Crytek can't fix this as it's your mistake.

Yes, although he tested it. If it was a common problem there would have been threads about it. It's a newbie mistake, I made it all the time when I was a low level when I used to tense up in a gunfight. Never happens now

You are tensing up, and you don't notice it because you are not paying attention to your thumbs on your controller, and you don't notice it when you are concentrating on doing it.

Ummm no I do it to and I've tested it and with my thumb off the stick I get a random melee when in a firefight. Private Match two of us testing and I get it and he didn't don't know what does it but something does.

Dude, you're the only one I've ever heard complain about this. Perhaps your controller is very sensitive, at the end of the day it's not the game.

It is definitely absolutely 100% NOT my error. At first I assumed it was. But then on other forums it has been reported. Last night it happened and my thumb was not on the right thumb stick at all. And like I say I've tested it will 3 controllers. Other people are seeing it happen as shown in this thread. And another forum I'm on people were reporting it (like me thinking it was their error)
http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-360-first-third-person-shooter-games/1432078-crysis-2-play-help-thread-12.html

And I see it happen to other players in the game, they'll be shooting at you and all of a sudden melee.

What I haven't tried is switching the button config round to see if that makes a difference but I kind of like it how it is.

this happened to me a couple of times and at some instances i felt pretty certain that i did not press the stick, but still rather thought it was my fault, not a glitch.
i didn't "investigate" further since i have other, immensely bigger problems with this game - but if you did and other people experience this too...

could you do it again and record a video with a cam, showing controller and screen?

I have issues with this quite a bit. I just figured it was because of my controller, cause it's kind of old. I wasn't sure if anyone else was experiencing this or not.

I've had this happen to me as well. When it happened one time in particular, I didn't have my finger on the right thumbstick whatsoever, which made me proclaim "I KNEW I WASN'T ACCIDENTLY HITTING IT!". Very annoying bug that has lost firefights for me. You watch the killcam back, and you see me melee like 30 feet away from someone. They probably think I'm a little slow.

This is any easy fix go to your controller options and switch the right thumbstick to alternative mode. hey presto no more meleeing and has the added bonus that if you do press down on the stick by accident all you do is crouch which can help in a firefight as your opponent shoots over your head. meleeing is switched to your B button.

This actually happens to me too! I can't figure out what the hell is going on but I KNOW I'm not clicking the thumb stick. Any other game I know when I click it as I can feel it. This I'll start to shoot at someone and it just melees. And I know it's not my hand tensing up. Cuz it does it when I'm sneaking up behind someone too.

Because even when you think that your not pressing down on the thumbstick you actually are , so the easiest way to fix it is to reconfigure the controller. It don't take a brain surgeon to figure that out unless your a total moron.

As I said I have tested it, just firing the gun with my right thumb nowhere near the stick at it does it. Other people are reporting the same.

OP posted that he tested it - no thumb anywhere near the right thumbstick and still melee attacks all over the place.

yes i can read, i just dont believe that hes meleeing when firing the gun using right trigger as this makes no sense as its such an big glitch that hundreds of players would be complaining about it, Rather than just a few people here.

It's only a small percentage of people that play Crysis that know about and are registered on this forum.

Also, given the nature of gaming forums these days, I'm sure there are people that do suffer with problems in game but choose not to post to avoid getting abused.

This is the most absurd thread on this forum.

Stop pressing the right-anolog stick in a fight and you won't melee. If you did some test then please let us know how you did this because I bet you if I did the same test then I wouldn't melee while firing.

THIS IS A NEWB mistake, just learn to play the game and you won't have this problem. This is as bad as the newbs that run around in armor mode all game and then keep getting owned then blame it on lag lolz

This happens to all kinds of people. I dont think this twisted guy plays the game much, hes always on these forums argusing with everybody.

I thought I might be doing it on accident too, and I messed around figured that wasn't the case. Thought I may have worn the controller out, my other controller had the same problem. Several of my friends have the same problem, and I run into people everyday that curse the melee button, or watch people do it.

It does seem to happen for a while, and then not happen for a while. I think it may have to do with connection, or some variable. The button is actually hard to press un intentionally, but there is a slight depression on my joysticks that I'll call tap RS for sake of simplicity that is very easy. Tap RS doesn't melee under usual circumstances, but seems to do it in a firefight. I agree that switching out control layout is the best answer if it persists and bothers you that much, but melee with the RS seems more natural.

I play the game much and rebooted almost 4 times legitimately, so I know what I'm talking about.

I haven't accidently pressed right-anolog when firing since I rebooted the first time about 3 weeks ago. I had to teach myself not to unconsciously tense when I saw someone.

Again I fail to see how I have insulted anybody, all I said it was a newb mistake, this is not a insult. Anyone new at any endeavour will make mistakes when their new, this is a fact of life and is nothing to be ashamed of. This is why I used the term newb rather than "noob" to present the difference and that I wasn't trying to insult.
