@7seti, because his profile says "male"... and if the word has "boob" or "briast" in it, I'm interested, just like any other guy. So calm yourself big guy.
It is unpractical, unrealistic and dangerous, but at least it covers the character's body and it is present on other TES games.
I would be more concerned if higher quality armor were all skimpy. I am not against skimpy armor, as long as there are regular armor available and the male version of the armor is also skimpy. It makes me so angry when I see a male character running around wearing an awesome looking set, but then I try the set on and it turns out that the female version is awfully skimpy in comparison and looks nothing like that awesome set that I saw before. Since we don't see this kind of thing on TES games, hopefully we won't see it on ESO.
Man, I'm kind of ashamed to be a straight man after reading this thread. Grow up, guys. And read the linked article above for information about why boobplate armor isn't just silly and sixist, it's ridiculous.
First game I've seen in a while that would have something like "Full plate" for female character! But we can always complain.
"There's a shortage of perfect briasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours"... by not having the proper protection.
loooool, something as frivolous as an online forum makes you ashamed of your sixuality? Most of the above posts were in jest and you should grow up if you couldn't already tell.
The artists that work on this game use their creative vision to design the armour how they see fit, that's not to say they should be immune to concerns and feedback but I think its shortsighted to call it ridiculous because it doesn't adhere to reality, there's magic in this game.
Maybe a "hide boobplate" beside the "hide helmet" option would please everyone
The "it's magic" argument often ignores the importance of verisimiltude. For example, people in the game don't eat with their feet. They could - you could call it magic - but it would appear illogical and absurd. To people that know better, boobplate looks similarly absurd and illogical. I don't think most people do know better, though. It's been around so long it's taken for granted.
Except it's an art choice that objectifies women in a way that it doesn't objectify the male characters. It's a ridiculous fantasy trope designed to appeal to the stereotypical adolescent boy, and I'd be perfectly happy to see more games phasing it out. At least ESO looks to have taken a better route than most games, but there's still no earthly reason for armor to be sixy. Especially when you don't design men's armor the same way.
Doesn't matter when the design is clearly oriented around sixualizing the female characters in ways that the male characters aren't. So when the men get at least semi-realistic armor/weapons, it's a little ridiculous that women aren't extended the same courtesy.
It was kind of a silly example but in no way do I equate the ability to summoning daedra from another plane of existence to dressing my dog up in cool costumes. Magic is absurd and illogical but its a premise that captures the imagination and attention of a lot of people. Just like boobs capture my attention and imagination.
I had to google what verisimitude meant so I don't even know if what I said makes sense in reply
You have clearly not seen the red guard male dance
NDA, etc.
Regardless, Redguard males aren't forced to dance everywhere they go. Not quite the same as being forced to have armor showing off your midriff (which I think ESO has mostly avoided... I hope).
Yes, I'm aware that you think you're hysterical, but try for the tiniest bit of tact and empathy here. Most people do not actually enjoy being turned into sixual objects, especially when they're playing a fantasy game.
Yes, it's all very terrible. We should start a protest movement about this terrible online RPG fashion statement.
You speak for most people do you? Is there some general consensus or hive mind that I've been excluded from? Have you researched this topic among the gaming population?
You object and that's fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that you take a stance on it. But you don't need to come in here and be demeaning and try to shame other people for not sharing your view.
I'm fairly certain that most women (and men) have made it clear that they prefer to be treated as people rather than as objects. But feel free to conduct an informal poll of your own.
lol, what you are fairly certain of doesn't really add any credence to your opinion. There's a reason chicks dress provocatively at clubs.
You just assume everyone was raised to find ankle exposure terribly indecent.
Then they can slide the boob slider all the way to the bottom and avoid the problem.
