Please help legal issue?

Hi there I'm new to these forums but wondered if one of you fine people could help me with something. I'll be getting the speacil edition of skyrim a day before the official release date, and wanted to make several youtube videos showing gameplay and unboxing the game. I loved Oblivion and haven't played a game like it before or since, I really do want to show people just how amazing this game is and the huge improvements in terms of graphic animations etc.

Would Bethesda be ok with this or would the videos be taken down?

The PC version of Skyrim will have to be activated on Steam, so you probably won't be able to activate it before the release date.

Once you've bought the game, it's yours. Yes you can put up vids on youtube. People do that all the time, just search on youtube 'let's play' and you'll see.

I think that's illegal. Hence why most games have that orange tape on them saying "do not open/sell until xx/xx/xx"

Depending on the form of this video it could be taken down for copyright. But if you give the developers full credit, most likely it won't be taken down. But YouTube is YouTube there are no guarantees, especially with smaller channels.

Yeah it is. But... illegal things are so tempting. Tell me in all honesty, would you wait for tomorrow to play skyrim knowing you have it in your hands and you can play it right now?

Depends how you get it. If you are getting it legally than it is your property and you can do what you wish with it, providing there are no stipulations connected to it (like "we'll give you an early release but do not do X"). If you are getting it illegally it might not be the best idea to advertise that... but again, unless there is a specific agreement for you not to do something, you wont be breaking any extra laws (outside of unlawful possession in the first place).

You making vids of your legal purchased copy of the game is not illegal. Your friend giving you the game a day before official release is however against the agreement they have with Bethesda that they can't sell before 11-11-11.

With the launch of Rage we maintained a policy that videos of the game posted before the official release were taken off the forums. Not until official release date were videos posted on the forums allowed. I can imagine we'll use a similar strategy with Skyrim.

Those videos are fake. The game hasn't even gone gold yet, so any copies of the game would still be in the studio, and wouldn't have the actual artwork on the case or disc.

just wait till the game goes gold (end of this month) and I bet there will be plenty of skyrim vids with a couple of spoilers in them. GOD it will be tempting yet I won't look at them I swear.

You are only getting the game one day before release, you mean to tell me you cant wait until the next day to upload your videos. You should be too busy playing the game and making the videos the day you get it anyway. Or is this thread really just to taunt people here that you are getting it a day early?

http://steampowered.com/steamworks/publishingservices.php.

2. Retail Encryption

Protect your day-one release by shipping encrypted media to stores world-wide. No need to worry that your game will leak from a replicator or stock room - your game stays encrypted until the moment you decide to release it.
.

The Steam client decrypts it on release day. So you can unbox it early. It will be sitting on hundreds of thousands of hard drives in the same encrypted state before release day too.

And this is why one should never post until having that first coffee. :P I only read the OP.

OP: Should not upload any vids of gameplay then, or at least not talk about it here, and it may not be legal.

Yeah, and to do it well it's likely to take a day to put together anyway.
