please hire obsidian to make another game on the new engine

Wouldn't it be better to stop the hating and just be grateful for what we get? Seems like the most logical choice, and also what would produce the most happiness all around. I guess people can't be bothered to actually be happy about something anymore.

Sounds pretty sheepish to me. "You don't like what I like, so I won't like what you like because of that." I've heard that kind of rhetoric from gradeschoolers.

Make up your own mind.

What's the logic of that? Or the benefit to those who need to bow down and be grateful with what ever is being shoved at them?

It's not that I expect people to like what I like, but the utter obnoxiousness of people who sit on a forum of a company they loathe for years doing nothing but bash everything that company creates is what makes me believe that Obsidian would be best creating good games for their own franchises rather than inspiring a new round of Bethesda-bashing from their "fans".

For what it's worth, I'd also be interested in seeing what they do with another Vampire game.

Yes that is exactly what i said, word for word. Thank you for not twisting it to make it sound like i meant something else entirely.

It was a poor choice of words.

Why would care for fan reactions to that length goes wooosh over my head. Even stating "regardless of its quality". Still sounds like some sort of crusade not rooted on the subject matter itself (the game), but a side effect (the audience). You are free to think the way you choose, but... It does sound skewed.

So would I.

So what is it that we should be grateful of, and what makes it the "most logical solution" to be grateful for something for just getting it?

I might like a certain sports team, but have no qualms in rooting for the opposing team under some circumstances if certain fans of my own team are being particularly obnoxious about it. :)

I'd really just prefer that Obsidian focus their efforts on making quality games for their own franchises rather than creating another decade of Bethesda-bashing here. Game quality isn't the determining factor considering that it's all subjective anyway.

No need to worry about that, Obsidian games only really impact the Bethesda bashing by showing RPG fans what Bethesda COULD be doing if they hired some writers. Bethesda will still provide the bulk of it by not hiring new writers and further simplifying things.

Bethesda will handle that all by themselves.

I wish they'd just hire Obsidian on as advisors. Bethesda has some aspects of RPGs down pat but is clueless in others. That curious mix has created the very successful, if instantly recognizable, Bethesda RPG but it could be improved on with an outside team.

Yeah Bethesda will give up the opportunity to make a lot of money just to spite "Obsidian fans." People who think that clearly don't know how business actually works. Obsidian made a lot of money and it was well received and Bethesda has stated they were happy with New Vegas. Also remember Bethesda asked Obsidian to make a game, it just so happened Obsidian had an idea for another Fallout which Bethesda loved.

Also do you want to wait 8+ years for Fallout 5 with nothing in between?

Also just because people have constructive criticism of a game doesn't mean they are bashing it. But I guess in the world we live in we must make everything a "safe space" and have the same ideas so as not to hurt anyone's feelings.

Edit: I am not saying Bethesda is going to ask Obsidian to make another game. It is just that if Bethesda doesn't have Obsidian make another game I highly doubt the reason would be because there are people who like Obsidian more than them.

I agree but you have to admit there are a lot of people who seem to just hate on 4 while offering no feed back other than "it's not a real fallout game", "it's not and RPG", or "the writing svcks".

I like this post. It makes sense.

But I'd definitely be up for another Fallout game from Obsidian. Fallout 2 and New Vegas are my favorite games of the series.

A lot of people were saying Fallout New Vegas svcked simply because Bethesda didn't make it. So it goes both ways.

From my own experience with people I interact with, many of them Bethesda fans.. The hype for Fallout 4 has died off completely. I don't know anyone who is still playing it. Again the people I have been talking to tell me they are fans of Bethesda's games. The Elder Scrolls games and Fallout 3. They talked me into getting Fallout 4 on day one. Something I wasn't planning on doing. They all played New Vegas and they enjoyed it and were hoping Fallout 4 was going to take more from it then it did.

I think it is better than Fallout 3 in many aspects. Bethesda put in multiple paths for the main quest and they put in a lot of little things people were suggesting on these forums and little things can go along way. But over all Fallout 4 isn't giving me what other Fallouts games give and that is the drive to keep playing. Settlement building was very interesting at first but I don't have any interest playing just to build things. I don't feel like rebuilding everything when I start a new game. I also don't see any reason to start a new game. With the other Fallouts my reason for starting a new game is to see how quests turn out differently if I take different options with different characters.

But yeah it isn't helpful when people just say "it svcks" but everyone does it. But that being said I have seen people explain their views and get "well you just hate Bethesda" as a response.

True.

I'm a big Bethesda fan and I'm pretty pleased with what we got with 4. I have a few minor complaints but over all I love the game.

I just wish people on both sides would dial back the hyperbole and stop acting like their subjective opinion is objective fact. For instance, I didn't think NV was that great and didn't care for some of Obsidian's choices but I still put 560 hours in to the game, and I most certainly didn't go on the NV forums to rain on the NV fans parade and dump on the game constantly. I try to judge each game I play by it's own merits and let it stand or fall based on them.

Well we come to these forums because we care about Fallout, at least it's why I am here. When people are passionate about a subject, things can get somewhat frustrating. People dig in on issues, everyone does it at one point or another. But yeah it would be nice if people could just work things out and be civil but we don't live in a perfect world, which is why we have moderators.

Edit: A lot people here myself include judge the games on their own as well. But it is fair to compare the different games in the series. People have different ideas of which is best and so on. So they want future games to be like the one they think is the best.

No... Obsidian is not good at making Fallout... they took the series and stripped it of its 50s charm and made it into a cowboy game with a cliche revenge story... not to mention a TERRIBLE MAP...

Fallout 2 wasn't made by Obsidian...

How many members of the Obsidian team were involved in Fallout 2?

I'd argue the first point, but it's clearly just your opinion. To me it was a great return to the series roots and improved upon the frame Bethesda had built.

Yes they did. It wasn't originally even close to as heavy handed and "rubbing it in your face" as it has become.

You can read all about Van Buren http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Van_Buren. I believe the complete design documents were released, so there's tons of extensive information on the various stories Black Isle was going to tackle in their Fallout 3 before Interplay cancelled it.

Needless to say there were plenty of drastic changes between the stories and characters that were going to be in Van Buren, and what they ended up being finalized as in New Vegas. The main story was completely different outside of the NCR being involved.

All your anti Bethesda rhetoric falls apart by the fact that Brian Fargo himself agrees Bethesda captured the Fallout universe good.

Most of the 50's things in the first 2 games was relegated to prewar stuff, while post war stuff was more like mad max.

I also don't get the gripe about a game set in the American south west having people dress up like cowboys when some still dress up like that now minus the bandoleers. Yet we have characters in Boston dressed up like people from the 1770's.

Obsidian knows how to make a Fallout game considering the people who created it reside there.

Yeah, because Westerns don't have a place in 1950s Americana culture at all. :violin:
