please hire obsidian to make another game on the new engine

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 12:58 am

(I know nobody from Bethesda will seriously read this, I guess I'm just venting. For what it's worth, I've put probably 70 hours into the game, so I gave it a fair shake) :)

I am just writing to express my disappointment in Fallout 4. I feel like compared to even Fallout 3, and especially New Vegas, this game is just... soulless? Very few quests have any complexity beyond killing everything, the characters and factions are for the most part unlikable and uninteresting. I had a hard time finding a companion I genuinely wanted to travel with, and a faction I actually cared to support. Also, the quirkyness the series is known for seems absent. Appalling, absurdly, Fallout 4 is just BORING. Unlike Fallout 3 and New Vegas, which over the years I've played at least twice each, I don't think I'll ever play this again. And I'll be weary of your next game. :(

Obsidian was good at taking your robust engine, and making a fun GAME in it. Give them another crack. :) Thanks for listening.

Obsidian fans are probably the reason there will not be another Fallout from Obsidian, which is a shame because I love 3,4 and NV equally.

^This^

It's not as if Bethesda themselves haven't done "better" themselves in the past. In any case: they tried a new approach for FO4, and came up short depending on how you look at it.

From my part I'll add the ever so tiresome; "both Bethesda and Obsidian are miles behind CDProjectRed" mantra.

Never again will I buy another's franchise continued by Obsidian. Been seduced twice and KOTOR 2 and FONV were the games out of all I've played since original Doom came out ( yes, I'm an old guy) that disappointed me the most. I'm also very tired of stuff I love being constantly called inferior to stuff I dislike and find wanting. Everyone's opinion differs but it really gets old. This is actually more tiresome than the "Elder scrolls has gone to Hell after Daggerfall" crowd. Over and over again.

Haha lol you're right! Instead of being reasonable and giving Bethesda credit for its contribution to make New Vegas possible, they preferred to bash the [censored] out of Fallout 3 in comparison to the mighty Vegas. Very childish and counterproductive attitude imo. Now I think Bethesda would be really stupid to cater to such a hateful and ungrateful minority and comission Obsidian again.

It is imho weird that Bethesda didn't take the strong points of NV and combined it with their own strong points. Fallout 4 is more Skyrim expanded with less rpg elements. Sure some elements originated from NV but these elements are already implemented in a Bethesda way in Skyrim. I heard that there is even some code that hinted a faction system similar to NV.

The whole argument studio vs studio is beside the point. The point is that Bethesda didn't learn more from NV and didn't let more new wind in. Fallout 4 isn't in the same genre as previous titles from Bethesda itself and NV from Obsidian. Fallout 4 is a bland shooter with a skeleton rpg. The lack of rpg is a problem that became very apparant when Oblivion hit the shelfes.

Did NV really sell that bad to justify never letting Obsidian do another Fallout. I really liked NV more because the world felt less hostile and more reasonsble while at same time being very violent.

I guess that soon most annoyed players will abandon Fallout 4 because it is not what they wanted/ expected unless a DLC hits in the mean time. I don't know how big that annoyed group is but I don't think it is insignifcant juging from the user reviews at metacritic. One thing is for sure the image has suffered and future releases will suffer from it unless something big is comming.

It is childish to react like that as professional. Not the other way around.

We also don't know if they even reacted this way. This pure speculation.

Yes Fallout 4 isn't New Vegas II and I am glad that it isn't. It's simply ignorant not to recognice the influences from NV in FO4 only because you didn't get what you wanted.

Yeah, I don't see that happening. Good writing is much harder to sell than EXPLOSIONS and EPIC ROBOTS, etc. Especially considering most BGS fans don't want a proper Fallout experience, they want TES set in something resembling Fallout universe. :P

But I did recognice it. Read the third and fourth sentence again.

What was your problem with NV? Just curious.

It's always good to have more of Fallout, so yes, give Obsidian chance to make New Vegas II. Given of course, Obsidian will be in the shape of doing it.

That said, Obsidian got job of making New Vegas mostly because some of the Obsidian developers were working on Van Buren (original Fallout 3 developed by Black Isle). It was almost finished so lot of context was reused in New Vegas (factions, quests, settings). Therefore I doubt we will see New Vegas II.

Lets beat the dead horse into the dirt, yet again!

If Obsidian wants to make a game, and Bethesda wants them to make it, then let hit happen. There is nothing wrong with it. If you don't like Fallout under Bethesda, then don't buy it? And if you don't like Fallout under Obsidian, ditto. Just because you want more of something, doesn't mean you should support it if you don't like the direction of it. Like Elder Scrolls Online, some will love it, some will not, but you are not obligated to get it just because it has Elder Scrolls in the title, and then complain later because it wasn't what you wanted.

If that would happen 90% of all threads had to be closed because they are just repetions of older threads just with different people or even the same people sometimes on it.

No, you are right. New Vegas was basically very large Fallout 3 mod.

Mostly, yes. The story however was carried over from Van Buren. A Fallout that didn't make it.

Reimagined aspects of Van Buren made it into New Vegas (Caesar's Legion, Joshua Graham, Big MT, the Brotherhood-NCR war), but the story was new. I actually wish they stuck with the Van Buren story, I think that would have been a bit more interesting than what they ultimately went with. I liked New Vegas' story overall, but the presentation was a bit dry at times.

On topic... for my part I'd love to see another Obsidian Fallout game, but part of me wants to see them make a Vampire: The Masquerade game more.

I'm sure if Obsidian made another Fallout game, it would be good...but please, please, *please* no more western "cowboy" themes. Make it somewhere *else* that gets away from cowboys, tribals, and casinos. A setting which would inspire more interesting factions than what we got in FNV.

Bethesda-hating Obsidian fans are why I wouldn't want another Obsidian Fallout to actually happen though. Those fans could inspire me to hate any game Obsidian makes regardless of its quality.

I'll second that. I think they could do something great with that series.

Also what was the Van Buren setting and story supposed to be like?
