I think I'm a good example of the type of person Bethesda needs to try really, really hard to disappoint. I'm a sandbox
fanatic, and I honestly couldn't care less how minimal the RPG aspects are as long as the world is rewarding to explore. That's not to say I don't like RPGs, I do, but I like sandbox games more. If a game is going to be an amazing sandbox and a decent or sub-par RPG, then I'm fine with that. Where I draw the line is games that are actually great RPGs, but boring and unrewarding sandboxes, which is why I was so disappointed in New Vegas. If that game was linear and based on a node system it'd likely turn out to be one of my favorite linear RPGs. But the fact that it instead chose to be a bad sandbox game really soured the experience for me.
Don't get me wrong, if Bethesda today announced "We've actually cut the skills in Skyrim down to 3 and are only letting you play as a human," I'd be
incredibly upset. But if they still managed to make the world as amazing as Fallout 3 and Morrowind's world was to explore, well... I'd probably buy it.
