Please no Knights of the Nine -alike sillyness.

Knights of the Nine was fun, but Bethesda's Oblivion DLC in general was not worth the price. Expansion packs are the way to go. And NO DLC READY ON RELEASE!!!! How cheap can you get...

We can all agree it was rubbish.

Nope, we can't. I for one thought it was very well done and added a lot to the game for characters that actually fit the mold it was meant for.

I certainly wouldn't consider sending my Dark Brotherhood assassin characters along that quest line because it would be counter to their nature. But my goodie two shoes Dunmer who values honor and integrity above all else fits right in.

I never played KoTN, so I can't comment on its quality, but you know what is really rubbish?

In fact, I know quite a lot of people who pirated Shivering Isles because they felt betrayed by KoTN.

This. This is rubbish. You felt robbed? Well, guess what--you have a voice. If you felt that betrayed by Bethesda, just don't buy any more Bethesda products. Or get over it. One or the other. This sense of entitlement, the idea that people somehow have the right to pirate content because they feel betrayed, is complete rubbish.

Let's say I go to the hardware store and buy a leaf blower. I take it home and give it a spin. There's nothing wrong with it, per se, but it doesn't live up to my expectations. So I go back to the store and look for the next model of leaf blower by this manufacturer. Since they let me down last time, I decide that I'm not going to pay for this leaf blower, and I just pick it up and walk out of the store. Or... maybe not. Because when people do things like that they go to jail. And they don't let you keep one lockpick in that jail, let me tell you.

No one is ever entitled to pirate anything. If you pirate something you are a thief. Now, if you can live with that, great. But don't try to justify your actions.

(By the way, when I say "you" above, I'm not talking about "you" the OP. I'm using "you" in the general sense to refer to the people you know who pirated Shivering Isles.)

My apologies if this goes against the forum rules concerning the discussion of piracy. I figured it the original post (which implies that piracy is, if not acceptable, at least understandable) was allowed to stand, this would be OK.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Seriously, thinking that just because the game didn't live up to your expectations means you can steal the next one is insanity.

I didn't think it was rubbish at all.
The story it told was very interesting, and the lore it added about Pelinal is some of the best in the series.
From a gameplay perspective it wasn't really spectacular, but come on. It was ten dollars.

They haven't said anywhere that they're going purely DLC/add-on/small Expansion/moneywaster/rubbish. (or whatever you want to call it...^^)
For all we know, they can already have an expansion planned and ready in a year after launch. :)

Pete mentioned this, and made it pretty clear that they are going DLC. Sorry to break it to you, but an expansion is surely not in the works atm. They are saying that they plan to focus on DLC b/c expansions take a lot of work, and they can move on to other projects.
Still not saying its impossible, but if you listen youll see you shouldnt get your hopes up.

Almost all of the Oblivion DLC I felt was either over-priced or under-delivered. KoTN was good, don't get me wrong however in comparison to what you get for the main game what only cost x amount more, you didn't see a 1/x of the amount of content of the main game, tho even 1/5x would probably have been fine, it felt more like 1/25~100x. Now Knights of the Nine did add a few quests and a few dungeons, but very little else, the story was good but the actual level of content was rather low considering that the DLC came out at about a quarter the price of the main game... so yes, it did indeed feel like getting robbed.

P.S. if you don't know algebra and fractions, go back to school and study =/.

Oblivion DLC over priced? At $1.89 each for the small ones? Seriously? I must live in a completely different world.

His statement is really dumb, but let's be realistic. Stealing a leaf blower, or anything material, is not like piracy. When you steal something from a store, the store loses money. They bought that leaf blower, and because they can no longer sell that exact item, a consumer has been prevented from purchasing it. When you pirate something, the creator of the content loses absolutely nothing. They don't pay for the bandwidth because it's being downloaded from a different site. Most importantly, consumers are not prevented from purchasing the content. And to pre-empt the "potential sale" argument, someone who pirates something for any reason (this time for spite) probably pirates for whatever reason is convenient. You can't count on them as a potential customer anyway.

Nothing personal, I just find that line of reasoning really annoying.

Edit: To be clear, piracy is theft in a sense, but it's rather innocuous compared to material theft.

KotN was a great DLC, fun quests, decent items, good boss battles, good story. If you didn't like then why don't you just go play a different game?

I enjoyed the KOTN dlc. No new areas, but fun quests. Little dissapointed with how easy Umaril was, but I'll live.

Time to call this one done. Piracy discussion is not a good idea on these forums, and when posts start to advocate that it is acceptable because it is "not as bad as something else" then the line has been crossed.
