Please Make Skyrim 3D Vision Ready

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2009 1:27 pm

Bethesda, I am hoping you folks can work with Nvidia and make this a 3D Vision ready game. Things like having a dynamic crosshair and having the sky and shadows render properly in the game are some of things that most games have trouble with when 3D is enabled. Although there are some people that will never like 3D it is an emerging technology and a game like Skyrim could be a showcase for the technology and could only help with sales.

3D Vision allows you to play games in stereoscopic 3D if you have the 3d Vision kit, a display that supports 3D vision (120Hz monitor,CRT, or other support display like DLP), and the 3D Vision driver installed.

Making a game 3D Vision ready means, as stated above, makes sure things like shadows, sky, crosshair, etc render correctly when 3D is enabled. The technology is NOT like the 3D in the theaters. Games are not automatically forced into 3D if you do not have the required hardware and software and enable it. You will not see any difference or performance decrease if you are playing a 3D Vision ready title without the 3D. Some popular games that are already out that are 3D Vision ready are:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Dead Rising 2
Just Cause 2
Metro 2033: The Last Refuge
Resident Evil 5
Trine
Civilization V
Lost Planet 2
Mafia II

Chances are many of you have played some of the games I just listed and maybe didn't even realize it was a 3D Vision title without any detriment to your gaming experience. I am just asking Bethesda to add another feature to the game to enhance the gaming experience for those that are able to use it.

Honestly I'm not too bothered. 3D is certainly an interesting technology, and would be a good idea for some games (especially if it's built and designed for use with 3D). I just don't like shoehorning technology into things that really don't need it, or late in it's development. I'd rather see that effort improve more important aspects of gameplay such as AI or physics, stories, etc. I have this same view with motion control. It's a good idea, just don't force it into something that doesn't need it, or shoehorn into development late.

I say NO. Anytime a gimmick is used like 3D in most cases, it turns into a failure. All the attention is on the 3D aspect or what ever the gimmick is, and the game becomes a BIG FAIL! I say no to 3D.

That ain't a gimmick. It is basically a question of compatibility with upcoming standards. There is no need to keep lacking compatibility when such matters can be solved with little amounts of manpower.

I really don't mind 3d, but if they do add it I want a "no 3d option". plus I get small headaches when I see 3d movies/games for a long time.

I'd rather them focus on more important things. You know, like more skills and less bugs.

If they have the time to implement it, I'm an ATI user so it wont matter to me but if it works for them fine, with that said we have seen the previous games, if they knowingly waste time implementing nvidia fad support they are going to get a great many pissed off users when they bugs start rolling in.

Yup, I don't fancy the headaches either.

I'd rather have them not wasting their time on a gimmick like 3D. :yucky:

Doesn't need much time. Just a few hours for one developer. And since there are third party drivers for ATI users, 3D is available to all. Even my good old HD 3870 is capable to run a alot of games in 3D. There are already some 120Hz displays that run 3D with an ATI and there are more to come in 2011.

I also hope they will integrate support for headtrackers. There is a SDK and it is no great deal. The immersion is overwhelming. I tried it using mouse emulation for TES IV and can tell, 3D and headtracking add up to an unbelievable experience. It's definitely worth the effort which is not more than some few hours of coding.

Well 3D gaming isn't quite the same as what you see at the movie theater. You basically have to have the hardware on hand and enable the 3D through the driver to make it work. The game is still almost a year away and it really doesn't take that much to make it work if they are cognitive of it while they are working on the game engine. It's a lot different than what has to be done on a movie to make it 3D.

Nvidia can do some things with their 3D drivers but some of the things like shadows rendering properly have to be done in the engine by the developers.

I could see 3D gaming being fun for the Elder Scrolls series in the future, but not now. Anytime a new technology is introduced to gaming, the length and quality of the games suffer. I wouldn't want to sacrifice anything just for 3d gaming capabilities... plus I don't have a 3d tv.

Please make TESV 3D compatible! This is the perfect game type for 3D. RPGs are all about immersion and 3D puts you in the game. I have a 3D projector with 3D Vision and it is unbelievable. You feel like you are standing in the world.

Oblivion has a few 3D issues (sky, crosshair) that would be easily fixable with just a little work from the developer.

Any time that was spent developing 3D TES would be time that was STOLEN from us TES fans wanting an actual TES experience.

Waste of time, basically.

3D is honestly one of the silliest supposed innovations everyone seems to be raving about now. It's just an amateur way of really trying to convey a virtual reality of sorts, and definitely is not needed.

We all love to be well informed about what we need by those who don't care.
BTW I've become wise recently and since i found out there is no need for mating you all no longer need such!

I'd rather not have 3D, it's nothing but a distraction from more important things.

I don't think it effects immersion at all.

Please do make sure NVidia 3D Vision works nicely. It adds massively to the experience, particularly the feeling of immersion.

To all those who voice their opinion against that: please actually try it before whining about the supposed value, you have no idea what you are talking about.

This can look amazing if implemented without nagging problems. The information is already there in the 3D engine, it is just some things like shadows and sky that shouldn't take shortcuts in the renderer and paint at the correct depth.

Why? So it can crash and burn like Hockey Night in Canada did when they switched to 3D? Or so the game can be uber-buggy like afore mentioned Hockey broadcast? Or so the devs can focus on making 3D look cool while putting less effort into the game itself because they want the small percent of people with a 3D tv to be impressed when the arrow comes and hits you in the face?

No thanks mango, just keep 3D where it belongs. That it, in children's animated movies.

Ok you people! This is a thread asking Bethesda to look into it. Not a thread arguing about who likes and who doesn't like 3d. Also, every time I see the word "gimmick" or "fad" or people talking about headaches, are the people I KNOW for a FACT have never played a single game in stereoscopic 3d. And if you think 3d is such a waste of time, then why don't you all poke out one of your eyes so you don't waste your life walking around with stereo vision. 3d gaming is vastly different from the 3d you see at the movies. Nothing like it. I also get headaches watching 3d flicks at the theatre, but I've NEVER had one headache from my 3d vision setup. Everything is completely adjustable to the user.

JUST STOP WITH THE NEGATIVE 3D COMMENTS IF YOU'VE HAD NO EXPERIENCE GAMING IN 3D! In fact, just stay out of this thread! ok yelling over.

Now finally, I'm here to add my vote that Bethesda looks into making sure everything (shadows, hdr, x-hair, etc.) renders properly in 3d. It won't "steal" (as another misinformed person said) development time, and only add compatibility to us gamers who've invested in the coolest graphics tech available yet.

Not exactly rage, but exasperation, at people talking [censored] about stuff they know nothing about.

And 3d doesn't cause buggy games. I play Oblivion in 3d every day. If all us gamers didn't live so far apart, I'd invite every one of you over to check it out.
