Please make the physical edition worthwhile

Post » Thu Jul 07, 2016 10:37 am

Hi Bethesda,

I am a PC player and a big fan of Skyrim, have preordered the physical standard edition for 11.11.11

Unfortunately the collector's edition was too expensive for me at the time but later I bought another two copies, standard PC and Premium PC.

I haven't bought the Legendary edition, although it has been discounted very nicely on Steam quite often, because I like to play my TES very slowly and usually buy the goty edition near the release of the next TES, to have new content make the hype fever and waiting sweeter. I prefer the retail box anyway, so unlike many PC players who are now seeking for cheap Steam add-on keys to get the Special Edition for free via Legendary, I will prefer to wait a little longer (since I waited so long anyway) and get the shiny new release in retail box for PC.

My hope is you will give us, the physical editions fans, a nicely loaded box with extra content, not just a regular disk & epilepsy warning leaflet. A steelbook edition like Oblivion 5th Anniversary would be very cool. Or a cloth map, or a pocket guide to the current Tamriel... anything will be better than the hollow box with the epilepsy warning.

Besides the boxed games collectors, some people prefer the physical disk edition because their internet download is weak and/or expensive, so please consider including more content on physical disks than Fallout 4, I think a 10-15% download is anti-piracy enough.

Thank you, looking forward to buy a nice physical edition worthy of a legendary game and replaying Skyrim for another hundreds of hours!

I'd already decided I wasn't going to mess with SE even though it's free, for a variety of reasons. Lack of physical media just made that a done deal. I'm not going to use up all my download limit on a version I really don't want or need.

I'm SO tired of game companies just assuming everyone has unlimited download bw. Anyone who lives outside of a decent sized town (lots of us out there....) has to make do with satellite broadband - and the limits on data are prohibitive.

I thought this thread was about TES6. Is it about the Skyrim remaster?

? Well, I don't think anyone's talking about 6 at the moment since it's still under wraps - and probably I might live long enough to buy it but whether I'm together enough to play it? Don't know, hope so, but not taking bets.... because what little I know about potential release, I'll be well over 70....

And the point remains that if there's no physical media for the remaster I won't be getting it - even if I wanted it, which dollars to doughnuts I don't anyway.... I LOVE my mods, and changing over to a 64bit engine but not having my mods for however long.... eh, just not going there.

Game UK has the physical edition listed too: http://www.game.co.uk/en/skyrim-special-edition-1285748

I suppose they will update the product description (physical content) when Bethesda releases an official picture.

BTW, at that price tag, I think they could easily throw at us a metal case and a map :)

I don't know why I was thinking that. Meh.

The remaster for PC will be a free Steam download, so yeah, you're probably not going to want it if you don't want to download it. As for your mods, the Steam download for the remaster will be a separate game from your current copy of Skyrim, so your mods wouldn't go anywhere. You'd still be able to play your Skyrim with the mods until the equivalent are released for the remaster. That is unless you can use current mods with the remaster. Not sure if that is possible.

I'm buying the boxed edition too. I don't expect the content to be spectacular though, this is not CD Projekt :P More likely a slipcase and a paper poster like Dishonored GOTY.

In order for BGS to keep the PC version free, I imagine they'll stick with just a digital version. Or at least charge you for making a physical copy and shipping it to you

And I would pay for that, but if I can still use what I have and mods still work with it. .then I'm not in any hurry...

I've had the x-box 1 version of DAI for 4 months now...game disc with DLC download. . I haven't downloaded the DLC'S yet. I loved the game on my 360, but it died, so...bought a new copy

I am in the same situation. Same editions, same platform, no collector.

I strongly subscribe to this requests, you've read my mind!

+1 for more game on dvd, less to download. 80% download is just ridiculous, otherwise why bother with physical editions.

most devs don't actually, which is kind of sad..

seriously, go into an ebgames, ask to see their PC section.. they will take you to a wall with mostly over priced Mics, keyboards, headsets, and mice.. ask them "what about the games" and they say "what denomination of steam card would you like" or "well, we can sell you activation keys for a few games"..

sadly, as far as PC software goes (not just games) optical media is pretty much dead at this point.. Windows now comes on flash drives, and anti-virus software, vdieo/image editing software or office products are just a product key in an empty box..

I support this request. it is unfortunate that Bethesda does not seem to care for a small but loyal group of TES players.

I should probably consider the same. I bought Skyrim Legendary Edition box set and was quite pleased with how fast the install went. I could install the whole game through internet if needed, but It would take me 48 hours of nonstop download to do so with such a size game. Maybe more. Plus if files get corrupted while downloading... argh

For console I should darned well hope the entire game is totally contained on one or two DvD discs.

I do not want to download ANYTHING- not when Im gonna be paying 60 bucks to have it in my hands.

I HATE downloads with a passion....why?

Because if you have the physical disc...its yours....you've got it....no question....for ever

With downloads......what happens if after a few years maybe...its suddenly "unsupported" even though you paid for it.....can you hand on heart guarantee that you will ALWAYS be able to download that game. Companys....even big ones can and do go under or merge and get taken over etc.....where's your rights then?

What if you lose that activation key and have to replace your machine....can you prove you already paid for it.....even if so....how many hoops will you have to jump through to get back what is rightfully yours?

Give me a physical disc in a box everytime.....as far as I'm concerned that is what I am paying for!

It's not Bethesda. It's the gaming genre in general.
