Please release the list of names.

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 1:47 am

Hi all,

Todd named his character "Howard" in the E3 showcase and Codsworth the Mr Handy bot called him "Mr Howard"!

Todd said 1,000 names were recorded.

I would love to see a list of the names that have been voiced in Fallout 4.

Any chance we could see a list?

Is it a list of First Names, or a list of Surnames, or a combination of the two?

With a selection like "Howard" it's impossible to tell. :D

There probably won't be a list for a couple more months, but he did say there was 1000 names on the pc version recorded. Plus welcome to the forums!

I wonder what it'll call us if we choose a name not in the database? .. Probably just sir or ma'am.

He did say that they used the "most popular names," so I'm thinking we just need to look up "top baby names" and we'll get a pretty clear picture. Of course, he didn't say if they used top names in the world or if they went with top names just in the u.s. .. Maybe they went with localized names for each region the game will be released.

Geez, imagine being the voice actor and having to go through a few days of just saying names.

I hope Cathy/Catherine would be in the list of names? It's a pretty common name.

I too would like to see them. Esp since, given there are two genders available, it's likely a 500/500 split. (Pr close to, taking into account unisix names).

And what about names that a pronounced the same but spelt differently, like Charlie/Charley, Todd/Tod, Tony/Toni, Shaun/Sean, or Thomas/Tomas? Is it going to recognise those spellings?

Presumably it has a catch-all for a name they didn't record. eg: 'Andeep' will be simply 'sir' or the dialogue will be written in a way to navigate around using a name in the first place.

The character I'm in the middle of coming up with (too early, I know) is named Tom, and I have no doubt in my mind that Bethesda will have it. So...No worries!

I can imagine the backlash already starting to accumulate. It's going to be a plethora of disgruntled players that want a name added no matter when they release the list.

If the names James, John, Johnny, Jack, Jim, Henry, and/or Hank are on the list...I'm cool.

It would be great if they did release a list I swear my names common enough to be included but I've said that before with other games and I've been severely dissapointed.

Would also be interested in hearing more info on this.

By referring to him as 'Mr. Howard' it suggests a surname is preferred over a forename IMO, as aside from Howard being Todd's surname, you wouldn't address John Smith as 'Mr. John,' but rather 'Mr. Smith.'

If that is the case, it'd be good if you could enter both your forename + surname at character creation, but Codsworth just would only use the surname for dialogue.

(for some reason seeing only a forename or surname listed on the Pip-Boy looks a bit odd to me; as though it's lacking information/too impersonal - But that's probably just me!)

They said the 1000 most common names or something to that effect. Just look up the most common names and you'll find a pretty accurate list of what will be in the game.

I'm more so curious if it's the U.S. names or world-wide. This also obviously means I can no longer roleplay with a code name like Reaper and it has to be an actual name :stare:

In that case...

Going through this list - http://names.mongabay.com/female_names.htm

It seems Cathy is likely, although almost likely that her nickname "Princess" will not appear. :P

But will it be a thousand male and female names or 500 each?
