Please no spiders

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 4:18 am

I think things won't be so bad. I had a friend who was terrified of spiders and she dreaded watching Return of the King because of Shelob in the theater. Turns out she wasn't afraid at all because that spider was too big to be realistically frightening.

So it may be that people only react to spiders if they fall withing a certain scope of size. Heck, I can't stand spiders myself; but I find those little jumping spiders adorable. I even had around 5 tarantulas at one point, which helped in coming to terms with my uneasy feeling when I see spiders. Maybe this form of confrontation therapy could help you too :)

Now that's a straight solution ha ha! I never liked spiders in games either, but asking their removal is a bit too drastic. What if someone is afraid of snow, what should be done?

Excatly.

Now,to be honest I can understand how you people are afraid of spiders.Theyre hairy, can climb everywhere and they have creepy face. And their legs...ugh.But [censored] it,slash 'em with a claymore or something.

Because your wishes are irrational and trying to change an entire game to appeal to what you want instead of the consensus of the masses. If every organization catered to the single loud voice in the back nothing would ever be done correctly.

While this is on the mean side, this is exactly why they shouldnt be taken out. I hate spiders too, but we all have to face some kind of fear through life, so try to get through and over come it

With all the people on these forums who have a phobia of spiders, there's sure to be a mod out there to remove them for the PC at least.

Or heck, if you're on the Xbox, maybe you can get a group of people to ask Bethesda kindly to make an optional DLC to change the spiders to something else already in the game.

To me it just doesn't make any sense. It's an irrational fear, so why not just realize it's irrational and get over it. I know psychological whatever, blah, blah, blah. I call it being weak, and whining for the world to change because of your irrationality is more irrational than the fear itself. Just play the game, and if you see a spider, do what you would do in real life. RUN AWAY.

Stop being a slave to your emotions and face your fears head on. The only way to truly live is fearlessly.

It's strange. Did not know phobia could be so acute as not bear even a fictional depiction. Blimey !

Well, as it undoubtedly has been said, mods are your best friend there. :)

A friend of mine is afraid of sea water and spiders. I just don't understand where the fear comes from, I hate spiders, they're ugly evil little shi*s, however am I afraid? No, they're small and pathetic for the most part. Well on topic, you can't ask for no spiders, Giant spiders are a good thing for these type of games. Dragons fit in, snakes fit it, giant spiders should be the underground menace we hate to face, Dragons are the open terrin and mystic bosses. I would love for snakes to be in too though as silent hunters.

Edit--Also, the ones in Skyrim aren't the creepy crawlly ones people are normally scared of, they're just monsters with 8 legs.

I'm not arachnophobic, I'm just tired of giant spiders in every damn fantasy game I've seen, poisonous or otherwise. They've just become a cliche.

What about people with phobia of water? Should they remove it as well?
When the game comes out, I suggest you to simply mod it and change the skin of the spiders. Nothing complicated, with a tiny search for tutorial everyone can do that kind of stuff.

Cause most of the players don't want giant spiders to disappear. It's part of the TES series.

Mod the spiders to have roller skates, that's how they are dealt with in Harry Potter.

so i was looking through the gameinformer info and saw that one of the enemy types is giant spiders. Well the problem with that is i have very severe arachnophobia. Every time bethesda comes out with a new game, i hope they leave out spiders but it looks like i know i wont be getting this game months before it comes out. I guess the point of this thread is to ask bethesda to remove spiders from the game... or even just reskin them to look like some other insect.

Well, they can't touch you but you can kill tem. Isn't that nice?

But did you close youre eyes when frodo and sam were fighting shelob?

I hope you'll be able to chop their legs off and watch them spin in circles.

Spiders are cool. I used to hold them in my open hand in my childhood. Perhaps I was a spider in my previous life, but I don't find them scary. The only gross part is to squash them, indeed. I wanted a tarantula pet but my wife disagreed with a nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo( breath pause)ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo so I quit (for now). To be honest I was thrilled when I saw the huge spider in Skyrim's presentation.

Don't take out the spider(s). The more creatures to fight the better. If you have a phobia of them then just realise that you are playing a game and it wont jump out of the screen and get you.

I had actually suggested a feature for Wrye Bash a while back that would use a text file to make a substitution list in the Bashed patch, specifically for people with phobias. It would be a simple file that allows you to substitute any creature in the game with any other creature you feel is more appropriate.

I don't know if anyone ever got it working. PC only, of course, even if they did.

Let the spiders be! Spiders are the Chuck Norris of insects! They don't adapt to you, you adapt to them! They don't love you, you must love them!

@OP: I'm in the same boat as you. And I have to playtest that giant spider all the friggin' time. I'm beginning to think that the testers know that it gives me the willies and keep giving me bugs (ha ha) around it just to mess with me.

To whichever LD decided to put that in the game, I have some choice words for you. Choice words.

I say take the oppurtunity the game will provide, to try and overcome your phobia by killing a few of them in game. If you can meet one thats 3 times your size in battle and emerge victorious than that tiny eight-legged shadow creeping across your ceiling about to lower itself on your head won't seem like such a big deal.

That is a very clever idea! It never occurred to me that something like that might be able to be implemented in Bash.

Maybe they can have a "Turn off Spiders" option? That way it doesn't matter if you have a console or pc, as it will allow you to get rid of the spiders? Everyone who want's spiders can keep spiders, and anyone who doesn't won't see them.
