Please no spiders

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 3:02 am

I love spiders. I once roleplayed a character in Oblivion called a Black Widow.

I don't really like cockroaches, they creep me out. If giant ones were in the game I would want to kill them quick so as not to look at them anymore, or stay clear from them.

Maybe you can do the same.

I have claustrophobia - they should remove dungeons from the game!

I hope we don't have any people with Genuphobia. We'd have to remove knees.

If you don't like spiders... and feel that it's a BIIIIG problem. Then perhaps it's time to deal with this problem? Talk to a psychologist?

Or you could mod them away? :)

In any case, we other people that don't have this phobia shouldn't suffer because you have it. Because if we go by that way of thinking, then we'd have to remove almost everything in the game because different people have different phobias.

I'm sorry for your fobia but we can't really ask them to not include the creatures they already designed and implemented.
Guess what ?
My dad recentely died and I just can't play something with or watch zombies.
I started Oblivion with a new character last week and when I went to a dungeon with undead I just exited the game.

I understand the fear but it is a Fantasy World. The Spider isn't going to jump out of the screen at you.

Try playing a bunch of horror games to learn ways of coping with high amounts of stress and fear. I have arachnophobia and I do fear spiders in games but I can still kill them when forced, though I'm a shaking wreck afterwards.

Keep spiders. Mod player.

BTW - My mother has a phobia of snakes. So much that when I was a kid and the family was on a trip to Florida she jumped out of a boat in the Everglades cause she saw a snake hanging from a tree some distance away. It was pretty embarrassing. There are primal fears built into our genetics (ie snakes/spiders could be dangerous; run) but I would make a serious attempt to overcome this. Nothing evil or malicious about them.

Having no phobias is pretty typical but if you ave no anxieties at all you'd be clinically insane.

so i was looking through the gameinformer info and saw that one of the enemy types is giant spiders. Well the problem with that is i have very severe arachnophobia. Every time bethesda comes out with a new game, i hope they leave out spiders but it looks like i know i wont be getting this game months before it comes out. I guess the point of this thread is to ask bethesda to remove spiders from the game... or even just reskin them to look like some other insect.

Well I am terrified by undead (seriously, ghosts and zombies are the only thing I am afraid of, but they scare the living hell out of me) and I have to put up with more and more of them in each Bethesda game, so tough luck, just grow a pair :toughninja:

i just want to say that just reskining them would work for me or an option to remove them in the menu. I dont get why so many people are offended buy my wishes

Then mod your game to reskin them, and leave ours alone. I don't get why you're so offended that thousands don't think they should have to cater to your personal problems.

No, eye didn't miss it, u missed...er, I didn't miss it, you missed the response that took it into account. He's got 10 months or so to scraqe together a PC that'll handle the game, or to realize he won't be playing this one.

But I will not sit idly by and watch gaming destroyed by overzealous removal of anything that could scare someone with a phobia- because once you start down that slippery slope it never ends. Remove spiders for the arachnophobes. Then the "#2" phobia's sufferers come in demanding their due, why should the spider-haters get special treatment? Next thing you know, anything anyone has a phobia to anywhere can't be put into a game, and the agoraphobes (fear of open spaces) and claustrophobes (fear of enclosed spaces) alone are enough to absolutely destroy all gaming if this absurd catering trend is allowed to take hold.

i wasnt defendin him in the aspect of spiders should be taken/modded out, but simply saying 'make a mod for it' doesnt apply here... some of us dont lik pc gaming and prefer our consoles.

i personally think he needs to svck it up or move on to another game (good luck findin a rpg without spiders)

From page 1, Maybe you missed it:

Well that makes it easy then- since mods aren't an option, your choices are:

A: Get over the phobia and enjoy the game...or

B: If unable to get over the phobia, don't bother buying the game...or

C: Start saving for a PC that can handle the game so you can mod those buggers out.

To all of you who say "Get over it" or whatever. A severe phobia cannot be "gotten over." I, personally hate spiders (the small ones, the big ones, the giant oversized fantasy ones, and the hairy ones, All of them!) and there are lots of people who are the same.
So you're saying you've never been afraid of something and just wanted it to go away?
Also, as was mentioned before, spiders don't belong in Skyrim, they belong in Valenwood and Nehrim.
So please accept that some people fear spiders and they CAN'T "get over it." Just learn that everyone isn't like you and... "get over it"

Haha? There not going to redo an enemy just for you.
What if some one have Dracnaphobia (dragons) would they just scrap all of the dragons from the game?

I feel for anyone who has this phobia, but I really enjoy their presence in the game. And a "please no spiders" thread *after* we know for a fact that they "please yes" are in the game already is a little disrespectful to the developers who obviously "please yes" included them in the game because they thought it would be a good addition.

The door you fear to being opened is already open. When some people with 'phobia' to naked people make ratings to ged rid of this in ALL games. What tis people are asking POLLITELLY, is very reasonable (aclaration I do not fear spiders, in any way it's only a question of empathy -not saying you didn't have-). Surelly this won't be changed, but if it happen, it will only suppose ANOTHER taking away. This time a reasonable one. Relax, the game won't be destroyed because of it. Besides there are many asks about crosbows, dual wielding, fast travel, cliff racers... Seriously it's only another petition.

I own a lovely Chilean Rose-Hair Tarantula named Millicent - she's adorable as can be.

I agree with the OP, but for different reasons. I'm tired of fighting spiders as random stock monsters, animals that have always been "okay to kill". It's like killing coyotes or wild dogs in Fallout...it just makes me feel bad.

Face your fear buddy...I think its the wisest choice. I don't like spiders that are small and venomous...those are just creepy and dangerous. I wouldn't have no problem at all with killing it virtually. To add on: someone do me a favor and actually create a mod that is a replica of Shelob's Lair for LOTR and enlarge one of the spiders to be Shelob (of course name it).
