Please no spiders

Actually I hope they will get bigger each level thanks to level scaling.
And when they die thousands of mini spiders burst out and will walk over your screen...

I have gone from someone who as a kid would instantly shriek, tear off my clothes, start slapping myself everywhere, and run away frantically looking for a spider if someone pointed one out on me (and then I would have trouble sleeping and have nightmares about spiders for a few days), to someone who can calmly take a notecard, get a spider to walk onto it, and take it outside. Without therapy. However, I am still very uncomfortable around spiders and when it comes to bees I must stand completely still if one comes near me until it leaves. At least I don't run away. There are limits, but effort is worth something.

I try to kill spiders in games as quickly as possible, but at this point their graphical presence doesn't bother me at all. A big monster spider getting up in my face the way some enemies do in the darkness of caves, given Skyrim's visual fidelity, certainly raises the chilling possibility of a few heartracing scares.

However, there is something to be said about being desensitized to something by experiencing it a lot. I always thought spiders in games were a given, so I dealt with them. I actually do think games helped with my fear of the svckers.

You had a point, but everyone is different and a phobia can be also become more strong if confronted the wrong way. When you want to fix your mind, better to do it with profesional aid.

Well that makes it easy then- since mods aren't an option, your choices are:

A: Get over the phobia and enjoy the game...or

B: If unable to get over the phobia, don't bother buying the game...or

C: Start saving for a PC that can handle the game so you can mod those buggers out.

Agree, i dont like spiders ether BUT i just kill em.U need to learn how to get over ur fear or its going to eat at u for the rest of ur life.

so i was looking through the gameinformer info and saw that one of the enemy types is giant spiders. Well the problem with that is i have very severe arachnophobia. Every time bethesda comes out with a new game, i hope they leave out spiders but it looks like i know i wont be getting this game months before it comes out. I guess the point of this thread is to ask bethesda to remove spiders from the game... or even just reskin them to look like some other insect.

remove a creature from the game because you have a phobia? I feel for you, but I don't think they will even consider to remove them, and I want them in :P

I've always been scared by zombies, but that doesn't stop me from beating them to a pulp without problem.
Can't you just unleash your rage against the cursed spiders and in your hate and anger forget your fear of them? :) Yell battle-cries at the monitor if that helps, I know I have said funny things and even laughed manically as I defeated hard enemies in games. :D

I fully agree to the fullest  . I mean why the Deadra would they include spiders! Spiders aren't supposed to survive in a cold climate like Skyrim. Spiders don't fit in, really. If they have to be in the game, they should live in caverns, not out in the open.

I know exactly how you feel. If I see a spider in my room that is more than a few centimetres big, I freak out and have to call someone. I don't know why, but my heart beats like it has to beat faster than a light can blink (that's approx. 100 times a second), and I get somewhat paralysed. Even if I see a big enough spider on an image I get a bit (no a lot) frightened. On TV, for example.

On a slightly different note, I played Dragon Age: Origins, and the spiders there didn't bother me too much, even though they were bigger than a human; that might even be the reason.

When people tell me to svck it up, "It's just a little spider," I seriously want to... *censored* Phobias aren't rational and you can't just ignore them. It's like telling a person with a mental illness to stop twitching or something, IMHO.

I cannot believe the amount of people demanding the removal of spiders, so arrogant. Leave them in Bethesda, leave them in.

I like spiders, though I do not want them in our bedroom but I won't kill them. Just capture them and throw them outside. The ones in your house can't hurt you, but YOU can sure as hell hurt them, given the size difference they have more reason to fear you.

It would kind of ruin the atmosphere... you're like running around minding your own buisness when suddenly a giant spider with 10 legs show up! They are ugly and not fitting!

This is exactly the problem with irrational fears. They are irrational. Spiders could definitely fit here, you know since gates to other mortal planes, giant dragons, zombies, ghosts, and all other variety of weird fit right in. We don't know what kind of spiders all exist in the game so these could be huge ones with silver-white fur to help them blend in with the snow and keep warm. There are also warm areas of Skyrim. But people with phobias can't help but build the idea of a spider into a 10 foot high monster with more legs than what they can have and still be considered spiders.

I understand a fear of spiders. There are spiders in Iraq as big as footballs. I woke up one night to the feeling of a spider crawling from my leg to my face. The whole reason we respond so sensitively to tickling is so we can react to those predators. But you can't demand that something be removed because some people have a problem with it. This is like the guns in ET being changed to walkie talkies because people had a problem with feds having guns in a children's movie.

You forget that fears/phobias aren't rational. If I see a spider I just want to get the hell away from it. I don't want to hurt it, so I get someone else to throw it outside, or kill it if they want to; frankly I don't care.

Also, if you were referring to me as one of the people who wants them removed, you're wrong. I don't care if there are spiders in a video game; as I said, the big-ass ones in DA:O didn't do me anything.

There are many phobias out there - there are people who are afraid of hight, so we should remove mountains, thous who are afraid of water, so no lakes, people who are afraid of rodents, so anything resembling a rat has to go, reptiles would have to be sacked to... Should I continue?
Phobias can, and should be dealt with - you get over your fear, not cater to it. I say it as a person who dealt with phobias of my own, it took time, effort, occasionally some professional help and a lot of willpower, but I'm over it. You can't change the world around you, but you can change yourself, and your perception of it.

Killing a wolf spider always boosts the ego.

Hmmm. There are far more spiders on the planet than human beings and they are essential to controlling insects populations (and life on Earth) so perhaps you should just remove them carefully instead of killing them. Just a thought.

Anyway. If you enjoy fighting spiders you should play http://guides.ign.com/guides/736193/page_3.html. Great spider fun as it has both normal sized spiders and dog sized spiders and really creepy web lairs to crawl thru.

I think you're going a bit too far. It's not my fault if a giant spider races across my bedroom floor and I get scared to death because of my arachnophobia; but if a person who's afraid of heights go rock climbing, then it's his/her fault.

You're right, however. Phobias should be dealt with if possible. I hope you don't me asking, but what phobia did you get over? Just interested, it doesn't have to do with anything really.

Three of them - I was deathly afraid of wasps, cockroaches and hot water. Started to panic when seeing a wasp or a cockroach, shaking all over and ruining away, which was quite a fit since we have plenty of wasps around in a summer. Going to the open market where fruits are sold was the worst nightmare I could think of... Well except for the cockroach cowling in to my bed when I sleep - often couldn't sleep because of that. And you can guess what the fear of hot water meant for my cooking skills. Ultimately I decided that enough is enough, I want to live my live, not shake in fear over something. I'm quite calm about all of thous things now, will not appreciate a wasp in my hair of course, and very careful when cooking, which is simply a smart thing to do in my opinion, but that's it.

Sounds good, glad you got over it. :) I think a big part of my fear is surprise. If a spider sneaks up on me and surprises me, I get a hell of a lot more scared than if, for example, I am told that there is a spider somewhere and I then go there (unless it's very big). It's mostly when I'm alone too.
