I don't think Bethesda should be concerning themselves with peoples' phobias. They should make the game for the consumer base as a whole, rather than individual with special needs or circumstances. If you play on PC, these things are easily modded out.

This spider thing is getting funny. I want a M'Aiq like spider npc who runs on all eight from town to town and spreads lies about spiders being removed for political correctness.

When I was a teenager, I lived in Utah for a while, and my Dad and I used to like to go explore old ghost towns, abandoned mines and whatnot.

So one day (early spring) we go to this old abandoned mining town, and find a tunnel through a defunct old earthen dam. We head in a bit, and my Dad says "Looks like the wall is moving." I reach out to touch it, and just as I do, I realize that the walls and ceiling are covered in thousands and thousands of daddy long legs spiders.

With just the lightest touch, they cascade down, very literally covering us from head to toe in thousands of panicked, frantic spiders. We run out, and make a mad dash to the old millrace, leaping into the water, which was very cold. Got rid of the spiders though.

Not afraid of spiders, but that was a bit much. Just thought I'd share that with you arachnophobic folks, cause I'm nice like that. Sweet dreams!

1. You're stabbing a giant spider with a sword two million times, not running from it.
2. You don't have to be scared if they use magic, then you can TELL they absolutely fail.

Allow giant spiders Bethesda... Little ones would be annoying, but ones that are ten feet tall would be awesome and creepy looking...

I'm sorry, but it should be obvious that Bethesda is not going to do such a thing. If they do, then people with other phobias (such as heights) will demand the same for them, meaning that the game will basically be filled with nothing because there are phobias for EVERYTHING!!!

Seriously, imagine having to take out places like The Throat of the World (a main plot location) just because someone is afraid of heights?

And I'd only approve a mod for it if it replaced spiders with something else. Like cliffracers.

EDIT: Why is it that I see a mod for this appearing around the same time as the inevitable nudity mods do? :shakehead:

And I'm terribly afraid of snow. I couldn't ever step near Bruma in Oblivion without getting chills down my spine. So can you please remove it, Bethesda.

Your second statement contradicts the first.

No it doesn't.

There are two clearly oposed opinions, so, new tread granted. And if the request is so ridiculous and you are so sure of it having no effect, why are you participating in the tread?

It's a ridiculous request because it will NEVER happen. I shall buy you a copy of the game if Beth include a 'disable spiders' option. It won't happen. :)

Who cares about the people with arachnaphobia... There was this guy once who was afraid of the color purple (he had mental issues) and after a few years he went colorblind so all dark colors looked purple... And instead of losing his mind he eventually got used to the color, maybe that'll happen to you.

My friend is very arachnaphobic, so when i saw a giant spider in my house I called him over and I convinced him to kill it... Now instead of getting scared and running when he sees spiders he gets violent, maybe that'll happen to you.

I'm curious. Where was the opposition towards spiders for Morrowind? Or Oblivion? Where were the outcries of "NO SPEYEDARZ!!!" then?

Or is this just a product of the younger generation these days always expecting to get what they want, even if it's the tiniest, most irrelevant thing, such as this?

I wonder if Psychologist have used videogames to help patinets overcome phobia?

I'm imagining a 3D Spider Kinectimals game right now...

They have, in exposure therapy, an added bonus with Skyrim for the OP I guess :P

Rahu, it's not that I disagree with your sentiment, but the only spiders in Morrowind were robots and I don't remember any in Morrowind.

I'm saying, don't nerf your game because someone has a phobia. Those people can treat it like a horror game instead. Giant spiders FTW!

Also, my cousin has extreme arachnophobia as well, and she loves to watch the scenes in Prisoner of Azkaban and Return of the King with them because they scare the crap out of her, more than they would someone else.

Those who really can't deal with the spiders should get the game for PC. Someone will probably mod them out. Don't count on Bethesda to add any sort of 'no spider' option.

I feel your pain, OP. I am really scared about lizard people, cat people, pointy weapons and dragons! They just scare me SO MUCH!!!

I hope they remove them from the game, because if they don't, I won't be able to buy or play it. I'm gonna have nightmares forever!

While that's still true, a spider is still a spider.

And trust me, the spider variant enemies in Oblivion were http://images.uesp.net//0/08/OBCreature-SpiderDaedra.jpg than what what was in Morrowind.

Makes me wonder how OP and other arachnophobians managed to get through Morrowind and Oblivion without being scared stiff. Unless they never played Morrowind and Oblivion and are just drawn to Skyrim because of the massive hype.

Oh right spider daedra! I forgot all about them. Overshadowed by my love of Storm Atronachs, I suppose.

But giant spiders are supposed to be scary! If you saw a massice spider, all beady eyes and coarse, thick black hairs, bearing down on you, it's venom dripping out of its fangs, you'd be scared. If you have arachnophobia it just makes their job easier.

Hehe my brother just got a remote control tarantula, I'd love to send it into your room while you're playing :D I think the biggest killer is how they're animated and whether they can go up the sides of walls. I'm okay with spiders but the way their legs move is a little unnerving. Play Dark Messiah, I know you'll just love the spiders in that :D

Hey, behavior therapy is a very good thing - face your fear and get over it. Or open CS and take spiders off.

It's a game.... Get over it, or dont get near them. Shouldn't you be happy that you get to kill your biggest fear with swords and arrows?
