Please stop forcing radiant on us. its lazy and anti-fallout

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 8:03 am

True. But, its not really discussing when you tell other people that they are wrong because they have a different opinion than you and then call them stupid for not agreeing with you.

Whining doesn't lead to discussion. It's just whining, especially when there are people that have told them how to go about actually registering a complaint and possibly getting a resolution. Constant complaining about the same thing that has been complained about before is just complaining. It is neither instigating discussion nor conducive to any purpose other than whining.

That and the typical meme counter arguments. "Nostalgia goggles" and all.

But I see no reason to be so against complaints and criticism. I think we all know Bethesda well enough that they don't hear it regardless, but its what leads to discussion on these forums. Sometimes interesting and thoughtful discussion, sometimes leads to people bickering with one another. Depends on the OP's approach and one's capability to conclude "people think differently from me!". And it's not just from those who complain, but from both sides of the argument can people be unreasonable because someone doesn't like what they like. Which has clearly been displayed here.

I think Fallout 4 has a implemented the radiant quest content much better than was done previously. They were a real "grind" and much more boring to do in Skyrim, (Thieves Guild drudgery anyone?) That being said, there is still room for improvement. if they patch Preston so that he doesn't activate a quest until you talk to him first, you've a huge fix in my book. That and having each settlement having 5-6 possible "problems/destinations" to attend to would solve most of the repetition.

I'm enjoying helping out the settlements, and can see this playing out long after the major quests are finished, especially with the potential new content you can create yourself with settlement re-structuring and building. Be interesting to see what's added with forthcoming "patches" and of course some major DLC additions.

I think a lot of that can be turned back to the dismissive practice of the "Don't like it don't play it" statement. It certainly doesn't open up conversation most of the time (unless the conversation is about that attitude, as demonstrated here), because it's designed to shut down the conversation. And the subtext of that response seems to be all the stuff you're saying in the first part of your post.

The line seems to be used by people who are whining about what they constitute as whining. To take a play out of your book, if you don't like these discussions, don't respond to them. I don't go into a book club discussing Wuthering Heights and smack the book out of peoples' hands because I don't like what they're talking about.

Can't argue with that. And why don't you slap them? They're wrong!

Sorry. I just get frustrated that the subject is actually interesting in the thread and we try to offer solutions and a way for folks to actually get a response to their complaint and hopefully a solution and all that we get in return is more complaining about the same stuff over and over and over again.

I agree that I could stay out of the discussions but then there wouldn't be anything else. They seem to all end up in whinefests, even the ones that didn't start out that way. Either that or NV lovefests or bashfests.

I understand that.

But as for solutions, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you're talking about something where a bug means a quest doesn't work, that's one thing. But for my money, a lot of things don't have solutions that a player can influence outside of modding, and even then, it's more something that Bethesda should be doing. I wouldn't say complaining about things that only Bethesda can fix constitutes whining on general principle. There certainly are times that it is, but I don't think it's the standard.

All I meant was that, the best we can do is submit, through proper channels, and with proper documentation, our complaints and hope for the best. As we both know, it is all about priorities with game breaking bugs (experienced by many) being top or, apparently, exploit bugs and they fall far higher on the "need" scale than an issue with the way someone looks when they run or whether a Brahmin stays on your roof.

I do see your point though. Fortunately modders will take care of a lot of the issues (at least for the PC crowd).

When you ate your beloved ice cream over decades and suddenly the manufacturer changes the recipe to something untasty you might feel the need to talk about that somewhere...

And forums about this ice cream are the obvious place for that.

Did it ever cross your mind that people might not like a specific aspect of the game while liking the game in general? If you have nothing meaningful to contribute to the conversation just don't bother posting.

On topic: I'm also of the opinion that radiant quests need to stay if only to have something to do post-game apart from exploring, but they need to be revamped. The idea of mini-quest lines (save kidnapped settler, raiders come for revenge etc.) was an interesting one and shouldn't be too hard to implement since it's just a quest triggering another quest upon completion. Also +1 to the people that said they should be completely optional and only given when the player specifically asks for them.

Edit: Also [censored] timed quests, I know this is my OCD but I can't stand seeing failed quests in my log.

I will never forgive Skyrim for coming up with this Radiant [censored].

Diablo 2 enemies at least had unique names, somewhat different appearances and special abilities.

The legendary enemies feel so out of place and arcadey for the kind of game Fallout is.

What I don't get is the relationship between "radiant quests" and lack of excitement for exploring. What do the two topics have to do with each other at all? Wandering through buildings, finding teddy bears doing odd things, and reading terminals/journals/etc..... you can do that. You didn't need quests to do that in FO3, and you don't in FO4.

(Yes, the radiant quests get a bit old/repetitive. Luckily, they're optional and easily ignorable.)

LOL the topic name "anti-fallout" lol really now ppl put things on that tab. hahahhaha

anyway, u arent force to the quest, u can ignore it. U dont have a timer that force u to do that quest.

The radiant system is fine. For me is something to do when i visit one of my Settlements, or maybe no.

The new patch notes say that the radiant minuteman quests are fixed/improved but hey I have not bothered to play around with the BETA patch at all so I don't know myself.

Also I sort of installed a mod to prevent settlement quests altogether.

150 hours... I enjoyed the exploration and building but my quest list was the shortest of any rpg I've ever played. I completed them in a few days and had nothing to do really except explore. Where are the quests? Maybe they are all there and I missed them.

That's your opinion, many do not share it.

Nowhere in my post did I say that I am "forced" to do them, I said I dislike being given them without specifically asking.

The difference between my opinion is it is not clouded by nostaligia and Bethesda hating.

Also so what if they are given to you you can just ignore them and never do them... get over it...

Then why are you responding to me? If you can't make a logical counter argument and back away from debate when you can't think of one then why go on a forum?

Coming from the person who stated that Fallout 4 is the best fallout and anyone who has a differing opinion is clouded by Bethesda hating and nostalgia. Enclaver pls. My sides hurt.
