[Imperial Edition] Please take these Names

Post » Fri Mar 14, 2014 1:23 am

Now that I'm done weeping at the lack of knowledge of what are generally well regarded fantasy novels....

1) Raistlin was the "mage" of the party during the Dragonlance Chronicles and definitely not a "stock" character. His inner darkness led him down a very dark path in Dragonlance Legends. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raistlin_Majere

2) Drizzt started as a supporting character in the Icewind Dale books before becoming the well known Drow ranger that he is nowadays.

Two different gaming worlds (Krynn and Forgotten Realms) and 4 years (1984 and 1988) separate the two.

Im FAR more annoyed by names of modern characters (especially cartoon/anime character names). IE Naruto, Jack Sparrow, Natsuo, or Barack Obama etc. These just shatter immersion for me.

I think M'Aiq and its family of variations will be statistically one of the most used. Even by non-Khajiits :hehe: it would be nice if ZOS made at some point available some funny statistics like this.

Way back in the day there were these things called books. Thinly sliced pieces of trees with ink printed on them. Raistlin never made it to the big screen, so unlike Legolas, Gandalf, Dumbledore and whoever the [censored] else, the world doesn't know about him.

This community is *odd*

I TOTALLY agree about the legolasssses and Dumbumbleborfs etc but.... i have seen people take the Michael out of the Role players and then in same thread berate immersion breaking names.

Its weird.

I kinda like it :D

Legolas and Gandalf were well known names long before they appeared in movies. But then too, they were more well known due to the point that they appeared in books of a much higher caliber than Dragonlance or Harry Potter.

I know where they're from - I managed a store that sold RPG games AND the various novels. They were just generic AD&D novels churned out to make a buck.

I'll just use the same name I use for all games if I can get a good version of it. I don't change my name for differen't games.
