I would be so happy is this happens. Blizzard is going to have that smug look smacked off their face.

It's what we all want. But they seem unbeatable... I trust fallout will be the one to overcome it! There are 10 types of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't

Think this have been discussed before on another thread, no game will probably ever be "the wow killer". The game will most likely just die off when they (Blizzard) start to focus their attention on another game (mmo?). Image

Might not be, WoW has mainly kids as their players, Fallout is not aimed towards kids. Image

Might not be, WoW has mainly kids as their players, Fallout is not aimed towards kids.

According to a 2005 study, the average WoW player is about 28 years old. Given the the increasing popularity of video games, if this number has changed in the last 5 years, it's likely only to have gone up.

What does this mean? What do you get out of someone else failing? Why can't both games be successful? How can a corporation be smug? Just a few questions that come to mind while reading your post.

We don't want to kill anybody. I'm sure there would be witnesses and the paperwork is a pain.

As a gentle reminder, please be nice to other users and non-gamesas games alike.

No one thought EQ would be dethroned, then it did.

The whole reason WoW dethroned EQ was that it vastly improved upon the formula EQ did but didnt stray far from the conventions that EQ had established.

The tough thing with dethroning WoW is that the game self improves very quickly where as EQ sat on its laurels.

The main point Im trying to make was that WoW didnt revolutionize the MMO market with elaborate new mechanics or some other out of the box thinking it did it with common sense fixes, strong polish, and great stylization.

If Fallout Online is going to become top gun, they need to not try to redefine the MMO market and improve upon the tried and true things that are out now.

Consumer behavior rule number 1. If you try to make a product killer you failed before you started. 100 years of market research data has proved that it near impossible to "dethrone" a product or service by trying to be better than what it is. Often the king is king for the reason that it provides an experience or purpose that is not already established. EQ was king because it was the first 3d immersive mmo. WoW became king because it was the first accessible to mass market gamers.

Instead wish that the designers create the best Fall Out experience possible that can't be found anywhere else.

I dont believe that. 28 years old? Anyways, what is WoW strongest point is accesability by majority. And it is its biggest drawback aswell. An art, is not made in mind of majority, but from point of view of idea of the creator that tries to reach the deep interaction with other humans, which often is in a creative level which eliminates the majority unfortunatly, but thats how art works.

Keeping away from WoW as far as possible in game mechanics is good though (however, a true artist doesint loan others ideas, but steal them). I believe, that if you want to make a wow copy, wow will always win, this have even been proven time by time in industry over last 5 years. You cant beat WoW on a WoW own thing. This also counts for competition, you wont get WoW players to jump into post-apocaliptic wasteland (i dont believe it, unless they got bored by WoW, and when they DO get bored with WoW, Blizzard will not allow them too, and will release one of the games they have waiting for release just in case that situation arises).

Instead, focus on things WoW doesint have, and Blizzard will never have (their games are very simillar to eachother in terms of gameplay and game mechanics). There are players out there that are thirsty after serious RPG (Vegas did quite well, havint seen that good RPG (!) game for long time). Especially RPG Multiplayer online one, which i dont count WoW as, it kinda lacks in that element without any action & consequence practically. The Sarmatians

Don't worry, even Ebony will be the WoW killer when WoW players realise that WoW is nothing more then a hack and slash game.

I said WoW alot in that sentence, wow. You are being served by Nymus powered by black boyshorts with black lace, a pink bow, and pink ribbon and a hot pink and black lace, totally frilly.

PREACH!

EDIT:
Besides don't rip on Blizzard...
They're the makers of Starcraft possible the best RTS game ever.
And in a world where EA keeps on raping games,
Blizzard is the best enemy to have as a friend.

Games don't kill other games, genres consist of more than one series, it will not happen nor should it.

Common sense says that the only market is the niche market. There's no point gambling on a WoW killer, it's much safer (and much better for the advancement of gameplay design) if developers focus on their own player-base.

It's simple enough. There are enough MMO players disinterested with World of Warcraft and 'WoW-clones', enough to support an entirely different MMO without trying to lure WoW's player base over. gamesas needs only to compete with other new or niche market MMOs.

Lucky for gamesas that they're in an actually pretty similar situation as Blizzard: (without delving into financial resources) gamesas is using a franchise that many people love, from old and new gamers. Also, they have no MMORPG experience before. Well, at least they have some actual RPG experience.

Anyway, am I the only one who's tired of talking about WoW? At this point, I can't remember if I love or hate this game, that I played so many years ago. All I know is everyone's been talking about it ever since and it's always the same things they say. It's very boring, and entirely pointless.

I hope the admins here decide to eventually outlaw discussion of other games altogether (or make a sub-forum for that.)

Hehe Fallout is an radioactive mutagen scientific retro apocalyptic game not hack and slash looney toons... so they will both co-insist for all age players...until a real nuclear warhead show us the eternal light, and after that there will be only fallout... Image

Just about any MMO could compete with WoW, if they actually had an AD campaign and strong Marketing Strategy as Blizzard does.

LOTRO is just as a good MMO Game as WoW but other than accidently stumbling onto an obscure AD on the internet or heard from a Friend, many people wouldn't realize it exists; that and the fact any RL non-internet Gaming stores hardly places any other MMOs and Games on the shelf other than full racks of WOW and SC2 is also to blame.
