Please think carefully before investing in season pass.

I completely agree with the article and have never bought a season pass before... but this time

it's Bethesda :D a company that has always delivered so far, in my opinion

Fallout 4 is so much more fun than the money it did cost, compared to other games out there

every single piece of content that will make it last longer, will be worth it, because of how amazing the main game is :D

I had the same feeling about the singleplayer from GTA V, but they decided to stick with online content :(

I generally agree with the sentiment of the article and don't like the idea of a season pass for the reasons stated. I may end up getting it for Fallout 4, particularly if it goes on sale, because when it's all said and done I'll need all the FO4 DLC anyway. Too many of the best mods will have all the DLC as prerequisites and those mods will make even weaker DLC worth the price.

Bethesda usually does pretty good on DLC ... with some obvious exceptions. For Oblivion, they knocked it out of the park with Shivering Isles (which was actually closer to being an expansion), and Knights of the Nine was okay. The others were forgettable and inferior to the offerings of modders. Horse Armor is still a joke a decade later.

Fallout 3 DLC flopped with Mothership Zeta, and Operation Anchorage was underwhelming. But Broken Steel, The Pitt and Point Lookout were all worthwhile. With Skyrim Dawnguard was good enough, and Dragonborn rocked. Hearthfire was okay for it's lower price point and I did enjoy the content.

In fact, I liked Bethesda's DLC better than Obsidians New Vegas offerings. While I loved New Vegas, I wasn't happy with it's DLC. Honest Hearts was tedious at best. Dead Money was imaginative but a style of story that I hate. Old World Blues was a hoot ... fun and hilarious ... but so silly that it almost spoiled the game. Lonesome Road was pretty linear, but I enjoyed it. Many hated it, though, because they felt it contradicted their own character headcanon. Still, it allowed me to nuke Caesar's Legion.

If they follow the TES model people might aswell buy a season pass right now, because there is just pure amazing quality DLC for each TES game since Morrowind. Yet we don't know yet what we will get.

Personally i didn't really like the FO3 DLC that much, well Point Lookout and The Pitt are amazing, but the two others, meh. So yes i wouldn't buy a season pass, but it has nothing to do with Bethesda. I didn't buy the expansion pass for TW3 either, even though i would get the expansions on the cheap. I just don't pre-order or buy passes, no matter the developer.

I try not to be Beth negative in my posts and I've been all in for every DLC from FO3 forward... That said, I bought FO4 before launch and it's starting to feel like I'll be done with it before the DLC happens. Glad I didn't pre-pay.

I agree with the op on principle, but playing devil's advocate if I may, Bethesda Game Studios have put out some legendarily good (Tribunal, Shivering Isles, Dragonborn) and bad (horse armor or just about anything from Oblivion that wasnt KotN or SI). If they're promising good DLC I doubt we'll get burned for taking a leap of faith. That said, as a consumer I prefer to err on the side of caution. I'll be getting it regardless. I would like to see free small DLCs leading up to a major expansion to get me hyped though. Free stuff is always cool and great promotion.

Bought the pip-boy pre-order.

What's an additional $30 to that price?

I was not dissapointed with FO4. Doubt I'll be dissapointed with the DLC.

And if I am? No skin off my back. Not like it's the end of the world. No risk, no reward and all that.

Besides, if the DLCs are a failure, gamesas will do a better job next time around. If they don't, they'll get a reputation that their DLCs aren't worth getting a season pass over. At which point they'll be forced to make better DLCs, so it's actually in their best intrest to *not* slack off with a season pass, because it WILL bite them in the end.

Well, for me, the Borderlands 2 DLC hardly lived up. Sure it added content and hours of gameplay but besides the Torgue DLC, the rest felt dry compared to the original game. Bioshock: Infinite let me down in the same way. They were so mediocre and took soo long to release that I never even finished all the DLC. I bought the DLC for both and was let down, not because they weren't "good" DLC's but because they weren't juicy enough. The Skyrim DLC never even got released for the PS3, huge bummer, but it took so long I lost interest anyway, even after 600+ hours with 3 characters. Sometimes a Season Pass can be a huge disappointment. Time and Nostalgia can spoil that. I love Fallout 4, but the DLC must be substantial for me to purchase the Season Pass, especially after my previous experiences.

It never got released, or it took to long to release? Conflicting writing there. It did actually release on PS3, but it took along time indeed, came out for half price when it launched though.

The whole season pass is the same cost of bringing a date to a movie.. And it will likely be much much longer and more entertaining.

If it isn't worth it you must not like fallout 4 or Bethesda games.

How is the price of the pass of a big deal to people? Heck with inflation where it is at it is cheap as heck. $60 for a 100-500 hour game is cheap.

Title is misleading. The key words are "at launch"

I'm ultimately going to buy one, but after Beth puts out the first DLC. Also waiting to see what magic the gifted modding community will come up with in overhauling and reinventing the game. That's where the real value of playing the game is IMO.

Well, some people in poor countries are not that well off. The price of FO4 itself, is 1/3 of a monthly wage in some Eastern European countries for example, if taken by the dollar price.

Anyways, on-topic.

I'll personally hold off buying the DLC pass. FO4, while a good game, it is also a letdown to me in some aspects. So, I'm in no hurry to play the DLC content, and I can easily wait for a drop in prices. I can understand if people will buy it tho, if they think it is a great game and hope the DLC's follow it. I'll wait and see, before throwing more money at it :)

Aside from knowing the name, that happens like, in the first 15 minutes or so. Have you not played Fallout 4 yet?

I guess it did eventually get released. Sorry it took so long I stopped paying attention. Hear that Bethesda?; hurry up next time or else you lose potential customers and their potential money.

Eh I have already bought mine. I do it to support a developer who I really like. The base game itself is amazing and the hours of fun I have got from it is worth more than the purchase price anyways, and I am sure I will enjoy their DLC. It is a way of saying thanks for a great game and supporting further development.

We aren't talking about the ps4 we are talking about the $30 season pass. If people can't afford it don't buy it. Heck I would love to own a beach house or a new car that isn't 12 years old like mine but I know I can't afford it so I don't buy it. Game developers can't base game prices on poor countries and they shouldn't.

If you look at the world there are millions with $700 iphones...

I've been playing Bethesda games since Morrowind and I have to say this is my exact view. Bethesda's dlcs have never been anything short of quality, save for the attempt at micro-transactions they did with Oblivion which they ended up stop doing, hell even Fallout 3's dlc had some nice qualities and I'm constantly talking about the bad parts of them.

Could you please reread your own post, the one I quoted. You wrote with the assumption, that if one doesn't buy them, one doesn't like Fallout, and in your own words; "How is the price of the pass of a big deal to people? Heck with inflation where it is at it is cheap as heck. $60 for a 100-500 hour game is cheap.". Then I said, that not all people can afford to throw money after such things. A great deal of people have to save up to such things. And it has nothing to do with game developers having to set their prices or whatever.

I don't believe there are people who own a gaming PC or console, and fallout 4 that can't afford a $30 season pass. Use a credit card if needed and pay it over time. If you can't get a card work overtime for a bit for $30. If that isn't possible go to a friends house who owns the game and play the dlc. If you have ever played a Bethesda game the dlc are usually much better than every other game out there in terms on content.

Just forget it I won't continue the conversation. Whatever the OP says is whatever and people can respond however they want. I will stay more on topic.

Even if there is a horse armor equivalent, they know they screwed up in that for years now as it is the bench mark everyone turns to in regards to BS dlc. If we get a season pass and guaranteed 3-4 expansions if they throw random cosmetic stuff in there, to me, that's simply a bonus. They will put out great dlc, I'm sure of it
