Plot hole regarding Yes Man

Post » Fri Jul 13, 2012 3:47 pm

I was just thinking, and it dawned on me that there was never the option in-game to harness Yes Man in the interest of the NCR. Think about it, if you're an NCR supporter, you can provide the NCR with its own Securitron army and all the information stored in House's databanks - knowledge that would be invaluable to a declining nation like the NCR.

True, Yes Man could be exploited by anyone in the NCR, but after he undergoes the personality update, he could be programmed to serve purely the president (NCR wouldn't allow the Courier that much control). I suppose this would, however, place too much power in one's hands, which would undermine the NCR's democracy and kind of renders the idea unfeasible, but I'm surprised there was never even a dialogue option to bring the matter to hand. Seems like the kind of the thing the NCR would want to get its hands on, given its rapacious nature... okay, that was harshly worded, but I don't think NCR would pass up the opportunity to at least consider it.

So... thoughts? To reiterate, I'm fully aware that it wouldn't work, but do you think there could have been the choice, realistically?

Now, if this has been brought up a gajillion times before and I'm being outrageously stupid, then you have my sincere apologies. I'm new so I'm not totally up to date with what's been universall covered here :P And if there is dialogue with the NCR regarding Yes Man, I will leave the forums and never return :spotted owl:

It would simply be too OP to be able to finish the game with two factions at once. You can quest for Yes Man and NCR at the same time (it's recommended), but at one point you have to choose one-or-the-other.

That's why they left it out.

Thats a good point NCR would want that as the securitron army would be what NCR needs to beat the Legion and hold Hooverdam. God this makes an NCR supporter courier look dumb.

Celebration at New Vegas when NCR take Hoover dam.

Oliver- We did it good job every one

Moore- Yea down with the Legion

Hsu-You did good courier its sad that we lost alot of good people

Courier- I know right any let the good times role!

Yes man- Yea good time role!

Oliver- Whos this?

Courier- Oh this is Yes man he a securitron who dose what everythink you tekk to him I mean I could have taken over the securiton army with him.

Hsu- Wait what this whole time you had an army of securitons while are men and women died for us?!

Courier- Yes why?

Moore- Get out!

Perhaps it's because the Lucky 38 reactor and the Securitron army are too taxing on resources.
The NCR is there for the Dam, because it provides clean water and energy. Yes Man/House requires a very large portion of the energy provided just to run, so although it's useful in the short-run, it's taxing in the long-run.

This is probably the most logical explanation. But you'd think there'd be some dialogue at the very least.

Isn't the Lucky 38's reactor powered by the El Dorado Substation? The was already an NCR checkpoint there, and what else would they use that power for if the Dam's purpose to provide water and electricity to the Core Region? I don't see why they'd sit on it and then do squat. Perhaps just to guard it from others?

From a financial standpoint, there is a benefit to having a Securitron Corps of some kind. They don't need to be supplied with anything but ammo, making them more cost-effective than human troopers. NCR could lower taxes in accordance with this. Though, at the same time, it would probably put a lot of people out of work (incl. farmers), so you might have a point.

But it goes beyond the Securitrons. It's the vast wealth of knowledge stored in House's databanks. That's the real prize. I suppose, on the other hand, it's useless without House's vision to implement it, so who knows?

Ultimately, it's a balancing issue more than anything else, but it does appear a glaring plot hole on the face of it.
