Pointless but fun gander

Post » Sun Feb 28, 2010 5:59 am

Ofcourse this topic is pointless as stated
but while we kill time waiting for any news to surface on the DLC
why dont we talk about one certain Nat King Cole
why didn't fallout choose any of his songs to play through their respected lists?

for those of you who don't know Nat king cole he is best known for this song ;)

I'd guess the usual answer: copyright permissions and/or costs of getting said permissions.

Cost is the only factor. Obsidian didn't have the budget for NV that Bethesda had for FO3, which is why a lot of the music is from generic "use in films" cds.

Nice tune, but I'd rather have heard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzJY96m3lkg.

Agree with the above post. Most likely due to costs, besides, they already had Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin's music in there.

Licencing isn't an issue, record companies love having their music in games. It's not like back in Fallout 1, when they couldn't licence "I don't want to set the world on fire". These days record companies WANT you to put their music in games. The stumbling block comes in how much they charge you for doing so.

yeah but you rarely hear it
or in my case (because of the radio bug) I never heard it in game, only on the soundtrack.

They should have put in a Sammy Davis Jr. song which would have completed the Rat Pack contribution to the game.

The music of FO3 & FNV is one of the most important aspects of the game to me. I don’t normally listen to oldies in my “real” life, so when I play these games the music helps take me out of my “real” world and into the Fallout world. I have over 300 1930’s & 40’s era tunes that I have hand-picked for my game. They are very lore friendly and fit the FNV atmosphere perfectly. I wouldn’t want to play without them!

IMO I think the music of FO3 and FONV is a little lacking. We're talking about the fifties here, that's the birth of jazz, and rock. That's Elvis, and Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby, Fats Domino, and Artie Shaw. TBH considering the material available they have a short list that fails to stack up. If you want good 50s music you have to go with Bioshock.
...
I know that's not the most popular opinion out there, so if you want to tar and feather me, I'll understand.

The best and well known songs from the 1950s down cost alot of money to put in games. The Dev joked, if they had an Elvis song it would be the only song in the game. Unless you want to play an extra $20 on top of the $60 plus dollars for a game with every greatest hit by Elvis and others, you will have to make due with the ones we have.

You can always go on itunes and download the songs you want, for a $1 a song is it? and play them in the background when playing the game.

Hey they have "Big Iron" in and that one song a womans sings thats always playing when you walk be the Kings place. What else do you need.

Sure its Vegas and Frank should be in there, but I knew it would cost too much.

I understand that royalties would make the game more expensive if they were to fill it with popular songs, but I'm also pointing out, for the sake of argument, that there were some ridculously famous and good songs from the fifties that did not make it into the game. In a perfect world there would be Elvis, and Senatra in every game about Vegas. Also I don't think a little Jazz in a game with music from the fifties is too much to ask.

Frank Sinatra is in FNV he has Blue Moon on Radio New Vegas, maybe not his most popular song but its better than nothing,
plus there are plenty of references to him throughout the game
