Pointless Question: Has anyone collected all the books?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 6:48 am

Just wondering, if anyone has collected literally all of the books. It doesn't even have to be Oblivion. Morrowind too. I'm not sure if, in Daggerfall, you could put books down/decorate a house.

I mean like, someone would have gotten a huge library mod or something with many shelves, collected all the books and then displayed them?
How many are there, anyway?

Pointless answer: No, only the gems :)

Actually I have thought about that myself. Interesting to see if someone really has

Unfortunately no, though that's an interesting idea. I collected books my first time through, but I didn't get anywhere near collecting all of them, and have you ever tried to put a bunch of books on a shelf without them flying everywhere? No easy task, unless you use Decorator Assistant or some other mod.

I might try to do just that one day. I could just as easily use the console to get them all at once, but that wouldn't be as fun or as impressive. I'm sure someone has done it though. It would be cool to see a screenshot or video of it.

Not books, but one character a long time ago I rp'd a prohibition officer and would go around stealing all the game's alcohol and put it in the IC sewers. I didn't even get close to getting ALL of it, but I sure got a lot (I'd like to think most of it).

I still try to get at least one copy of every in game book for my characters house. I hate the lag caused by using a single container for them, but I have used mods to make sorting books easier.

Yeah exactly I meant if you used a mod. Maybe if you downloaded the Cyrodiil Library or whatever it's called you could put them all there.
And I definitely don't mean consoling them in. I mean like adventuring, finding them all, buying them, whatever.

I'm going to check on UESP how many there actually are. I remember one of the details about Oblivion I heard first and it made me really interested was that they claimed there were six and a half novels worth of in-game books. I would assume they mean short novels, like 300 pages or something, but still, if so, that's massive.

I'm also trying to reunite all the books, but I think I am far from this objective as I have all the books I colected in a single chest and there isn't significant lag yet when opening.

I will tell anyone who wants one copy of every book in the game, If you do get every book without cheating, you will never be able to finish some quests because a few unique books are quest items. Adding DLC also gives the Spell Tomes and a few more unique books and "clutter" letters and notes.
The bookshelves in the some modded player homes use "stacks" of books with the names of the books on the spines to make sorting books in a series easier.
Another fun thing to aim for is a copy of every edition of "The Black Horse Courier".

My next character will do that. But I won't be putting them on shelves or something because I want to preserve what sanity I still possess. I'll just dump them in one of my houses. I wonder if this will create a loot bag. Hmmm...

I'm thinking of having a character collect all the books and all of the wines for Battlehorn castle. Any other good collections you can recommend? I might do Ayleid or Akaviri but what things are there for them?

I don't know how much Akaviri stuff there is. Do you mean like unique swords too? Are there ones that I found in the MQ, like Northwind and stuff, unique or randomly generated items? ARE there random items in Oblivion like in Diablo?

I just know of Akaviri Katana, Ancient Akaviri Katana... Does Blades stuff count? It's in the same style. Blades Helmet, Ancient Blades Helmet, etc.

What have the Ayleids made as for items? I really don't know.

Also as for books, is there a link online that differentiates the kinds, like as a previous poster mentioned, novels vs history?

I haven't collected all the books in Oblivion, nor have I tried, nor do I intend to.

I've tried to collect all the books in Morrowind (haven't quite made it), but it's much more satisfying in Morrowind. There's generally a greater variety of books around and I can gather the ones I don't already have and take them home and place them exactly where I want them on my bookcases.

In Oblivion, it's more likely that what you're going to find is 17 copies of The Mages Guild Charter all lined up together, and if you take one home, the best you can do with it is wave it around like a drunk with Parkinson's, hope that you manage to get it to at least come to rest on a shelf, then never go anywhere near that shelf again, lest you bump into it and send it rocketing around the room.

There's just no point.

Does Morrowind actually have more than Oblivion?
What about Daggerfall? Can you get numbers somewhere?

Haha...It is quite annoying trying to put a number of staves in a basket for example, but shall search for the mod mentioned. Library is coming along, never managed to collect all the books since the games are simply too massive. I usually have one in Tel Uvirith. Perhaps in Oblivion there is less variety though. One problem which I have is with books which, I suspect, have been introduced with the Overhaul mod (things like Guide to Telvanni Architecture or Dwemer history). The style of writing is not the same, and although informative they dont have the same depth as the usual book in both games, can anyone confirm where these books come from?

Its Frostcrag spire downloadable content. Messed around with it some more with the decorator assistant and auto book-placer mentioned in this thread (and found "Psijic Conspiracy"...!)

I counted these myself, so chances are the numbers are off.
All figures include DLC
255 Books in Oblivion
63 in Daggerfall
188 in Morrowind

That's a cool idea, but I really can't see myself ever doing it. I'm too lazy and unmotivated.

I love collecting books in RPG's. Oblivion is great for letting you do this, as was Baldur's Gate 2 once. I spent ages in my living room in Anvil carefully setting my book collection up on the shelves and on the coffee table, and then I accidentally bumped into the furniture as I left and sent all the books flying everywhere. Damned physics engine.
