Polearms and crossbows... : V

Will polearms (like spears, staves and halberds) and/or crossbows return?

No idea.
There is no reason not to include polearms, neither is there a good reason to put them back in (at least from the perspective of some ppl).
The info says "pulling a string back now takes longer" so my guess is no, no crossbows.

If they were back it would have been in the magazine. When you consider how much this topic comes up, it would have been all to easy to throw up a pic or mention it. I'm sure they aren't in.

Yes the article said something along the lines of 'as before, bows and arrows dominate ranged combat'.

It might not be particularly specific, but if crossbows are in then I would assume that they would be mentioned there.

I don't care so much about crossbows, although it does make absolutely no sense they were cut, but they NEED to have spears!

Seriously, why did they take spears out (and so many other weapons from Morrowind)???

The more choices you have the better it is, and they even have (throwing) spears in the newest Fallout game, they make a lot more sense in a (partly) medieval fantasy world like TES. It would be a big dissapointment if they weren't in.

I'd say bring all the cut weapons (throwing weapons, crossbows, spears etc.) back! :toughninja:

Crossbows don't seem likely with the way the article was worded. Pole arms on the other hand, who knows. I would like to see halberds, spears, and pikes in the game.

The magazine isn't the Skyrim Bible, it doesn't reveal everything about the game.

While I realize that spears and crossbows will probably not be in the game, it hasn't yet been denied.

Spears and polearms would probably require different animations to get right, it wouldn't surprise me if they left them out again for that exact reason.

I think just about the whole fanbase can agree that polearms, crossbows and throwing weapons should be back.

No seriously, I love spears! I actually train with spears. I own many different types of polearms. I hate their removal, so much.

Not necessarily, with 10 months to go, I imagine they saved some little surprises for us until later

I think Crossbows will be in actually.After making tons of guns for Fallout,they should have some kind of template I think...(Animations etc...)

and its a fantasy rpg with magic of course they have staffs.

anyway, I'm pretty sure spears are in, because we have DRAGONS, spears are great for that, and I guess Xbows can be added until 11.11.11 if they haven't already

That isn't a good reason. Lore is retconned and tossed out the window all the time for the sake of gameplay and ease. Gameplay > Lore or "immersion" to most players and devs.

That being said, I wish they'd be back in. At least spears. I don't care much about ranged combat, but the spear was my primary weapon in morrowind.

There already is enough melee weapons, so I doubt polearms will be added. There is only one ranged weapon in Oblivion, so I think crossbows are an obvious addition.

It's not about enough melee weapons it's about variety of melee weapons and ability to differentiate a character not to mention it's a fricking big pointy thing. Who fights dragons without big long pointy things?

As to different animations: well i kinda hope they put ones in for swords, axes and daggers so an extra one for spears shouldn't be a mass of work.

A spear is an excellent dragon hunting weapon. And crossbows are just another cool alternative to bows. Both would be lovely to have back.
