Polearms Confirmed!

Ouch.

Just shows that PC Gamer isn't very professional.

Two things on that PC Gamer article

1) They probably should have said two-handed weapons. As Todd has mentioned in other places, there are no spears
2) You do not have the ability to wield two shields…. that’s inaccurate”

Oh. This sounds like a confirmation of no polearms.

Just to confirm on that, Gstaff, if you don't mind, is that a definite "no" to polearms of any kind?

I know it's probably too much to hope, but what does "not in the traditional sense" mean? I remember in an interview that was what Todd said about polearms. I took it to mean that there may be enemy NPCs or one-off weapons that resembled polearms, but I don't know.

I'm a swords guy anyway, so it's really just an aesthetic curiosity.

Gstaff said no spears, not no polearms.

Like I said, it's just an aesthetic thing for me, anyways. I was just wondering for clarity's sake.

Polearms could be considered a type of spear. And the context he said it in was HIGHLY suggestive. He comments on an article portraying polearms as being in the game with "1) They probably should have said two-handed weapons. As Todd has mentioned in other places, there are no spears". Why would he say they probably should have said 2 handed weapons if they were in the game? If that were the case, then he would have probably been fine with how they put it, since it has swords and 2 magic spells specifically as well and he makes no comment on them. And why mention that Todd said no spears when the discussion is about polearms unless he counts them as spears?

EDIT: Not trying to be the bearer of bad news, just trying to think objectively rather than optimistically.

Split the two sentences up

They probably should have said two-handed weapons. (I agree, there are also two-handed swords and two-handed axes)

As Todd has mentioned in other places, there are no spears. (As in the game informer podcast, but "they currently are not" and "not in a classical sense"

Did you read my post at all? You have to read it in context. I'm sorry, but that sounds like grasping onto the last straws of optimism.

If you recall, you start the game about to be executed. To have a beheading, you need a poleaxe, which is a polearm. Which this guy has: http://www.hwbox.gr/attachments/gaming-area/5435d1296690390-tes-v-skyrim-artofskyrim_005_executioner.jpg

As with previous Elder Scrolls games, any weapon an NPC has equipped, you can equip too.

I'm not grasping on any straws, just the facts.

Well, maybe they just have a fairly large axe, concept art is outdated. Could be either way. Still, that would make Gstaff's comments EXTREMELY odd and out of place if we do have proper polearms.

you don't need a poleaxe... you just need an axe, or even a really sharp/heavy sword would work. and thats concept art. they could of drawn that a long time ago, when they still didn't know what was gonna be in the game or not.

still sounds like grasping on straws to me.

Thinking "spear" means the same as "polearm" is grasping thin air. Unless Gstaff is known for speaking in metaphors, what he said is what he meant.

he may not have confirmed them to be out, but he was strongly suggestive about it IMO. I don't need to re-write what dragonbone wrote earlier, so I'll just let you go back and look at it.

My point was for that table, it should have said two-handed weapons rather than polearms. As to what two-handed weapons you'll be able use, that's a discussion for a later date.

Yeah, now that I think of it. It's pretty obvious something wasn't right with that weapon-overview in the article, since it didn't mention 2-handed swords or axes etc... which we know already are in.

-------------------
Despite this, I still think (hope) polearms are in, or at least some kind of them. Mainly because I saw things that looked like it in the concept art videos. But at the same time, Todd said spears weren't in in the traditional sense.
If he count polearms as spears... who knows?
It's confusing :P

Ouch, I'd hoped polearms (as in poleaxes, halberds, glaives, and the like) were as good as confirmed by that article (and I bought the magazine for that article alone). Another reason not to trust PC Gamer as far as I could throw them.

The lack of dual shields isn't much of a disappointment, though... options are good, but I suspect few of us would ever have used that one.

I must ask for will be there different animations for two-handed weapons types or there will be only one set of animations for them?
Will be there difference in animation between two-handed hammer and two-handed sword?
The same question for one-handed weapons also difference between dagger and longsword will be there or not?
