Politics

I like the feel of politics in Morrowind. Oblivion feels too childish (besides the dark brotherhood story), everything's black n white and very few gray areas. I'm sure Bethesda is very capable of grown-up content, considering the dark humor they managed to pull off in FO3.

There are a lot of subtle things Bethesda can do to introduce politics into Skyrim.

1. There are two opposing fronts right? Let them use different currencies, like how it works in NV. But instead of letting every merchant buy your Legion dollars, only those live near the borders are willing to exchange for you.
2. Internal struggles, such as two officials who work together who each give you missions that goes against the other.
3. In NV, you get to have a LOT of choices when you do quests. you could choose whom you want to support. We should have more of this in TES titles.

Any thoughts?

No to differing currencies.
Yes to the Falco and ... whatever his name was - style quests from Raven Rock
3. This is not Fallout. there should be, but not a lot.

See, i thought you were going to say something interesting, like about the great houses of MW

Nords should have their own clan/house system. *Nods*

My 2 cents.

YEah that'd be a cool feature but idk if i like the two currencies. I like the idea of maybe throwing your lot in with a certain faction and having pros and cons from it. Like choosing the Company over the one guy in Bloodmoon (can't remember how that story went and the names)

I agree, they should have a strong political presence. Internal struggles and the option to choose side was great in MW and I think it would be awesome if they improve that and bring it into Skyrim.

if the king has *just* died, they wouldn't be making their own currency. They would be more focused on seizing control.

Finally someone who gets it. I like fallout but it could NOT hold a light to The Elder Scrolls. So people, stop comparing a inferior non-established franchise to the greatest legendary holy-grail of RPGs. Thank you.

Something like the Great Houses of Morrowind, and with questlines that diverge and lead to differing outcomes - would make for great replayability, and the more houses, the more diverse politics could be. But I'm certain there's a base for the system somewhere in the lore that they've used - it just depends on how intricate they've chosen to make it.

If not enough, there will always be mods :)

We don't need any of that, in my opinion. All we need are the locals (in this case, the Nords) to be prouder and more arrogant seeing as though they're in their homeland. The Dark Elves were darker and meaner in Morrowind than in Oblivion, and they weren't accepting of the 'outlanders', whereas the Imperials really didn't change to how they acted in Morrowind despite being in their homeland.
I hope the Nords aren't bastards, but I atleast hope that they sometimes bully the outlanders or dislike the idea of them being on their continent.
I also hope that the citizens talk about things happening elsewhere in Tamriel, such as the Argonians taking control of Morrowind. That'd all help the 'politics' atmosphere.

I'm thinking of provinces enacting protectionist regulations because of difficult economic times. They do this because of the current decline of the empire which is causing less consumer spending, less investment by the middle class landowners/& nobility. Which in the end only causing more economic difficulties because of a massive drop in trade resulting from this thus lower production of goods and less wealth generating creating a negative economic domino effect primarily effecting the proletariat and the peasant.

And thus a COMMUNIST REVOLUTION OF THE WORKER.

WORKERS OF NIRN UNITE.

I can seemany political conflicts and ideals - first off we have the civil war: empire or no empire.

If they include vampires some will oppose them, some will not. The same goes for wereBEASTS (please).

In Winter Hold there can be some Dunmer involvewment and emigrants, so there can be a slave debate.

And make it all affect the story line depending on which factions you choose!

Also, maybe there could be some Akavir factions trying to gain popularity in Skyrim? Perhaps the anti-empire Nords would join forces with them to fight the Empire?

Yes! That's the kind of plot that makes a good impression on me. Alongside character choices that actually change the course of events, not just cosmetic alternatives that lead you to the same result anyway.
