Poll about what mods you play with

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:25 pm

This poll has these limited set of questions only because there is a forum poll limitation - I can ask only 5 questions with 20 choices each.

I wanted to see how many of us play this excellent game - sometimes, it takes a totally different perspective to see how this game is perceived.

Some of the ideas here would also help me create my next setup differently.

I understand that some items above are llimited by user's hardware (a combination of FCOM, ULs, BCs, QTP etc. would definitely require a good machine to get decent framerates).

I had another question: Unique Landscape usage, but the poll can take only so many question...

EDIT: Thanks for the advice folks - I did not know many of the leveling mods around (I have played KCAS since day 1), so added the suggested options. I apologize for missing some popular mods (they reflect my ignorance, not your fav. mod's popularity)

PS: Is a "none" option really needed for Overhauls - I mean, you can choose "Vanilla", right?

PPS: Do I need a none option? I guess one could just not respond to that question. Does every question have to be answered or the poll doesn't take your submission - I am really not sure.

TIE, AWLSaC, Open Cities Reborn, just added Real Hunger to my game to test my mod and am trying it out on it's own now. :D I don't use leveling mods and all of the UL's are present in my load order.

Jog's stealth overhaul as well. :foodndrink: Always fun.

I'm creating a new install now, but I've not started playing yet. Maybe tomorrow.

But on my last install I used FCOM, Oblivion XP, and Unique Landscapes. I also used Better Cities, but got rid of it because my game got laggy when in the cities, and it was incompatible with quite a lot of mods.

The new install will probably be just OOO instead of FCOM. An FCOM install takes a bit of time, and I want to play instead of installing a mod. I'm also trying nGCD v2 instead of Oblivion XP on this install.

I might also try some realism mods for my new install as well... not sure yet.

I can't believe you have nGCD on there twice and yet there is no mention of Realistic Leveling? Shame on you! Shame! ;)

Anyway, to explain a couple of my "Other" choices. I use a very personalized version of Open Cities Classic in which I have removed the walls surrounding the towns, made most of the inhabitants respawn, added a few house mods I've made for my characters and one or two new shops to sell some of the gear and loot that I'm constantly downloading. When Open Cities Reborn is more or less finalized I will probably rework that and use that instead.

I don't use many so-called "realism' mods. I handle that myself. I don't like to be forced into certain behavior by mods and I don't like mods spamming my screen with un-immersive messages telling me to eat and sleep. The one mod I do use, though, is Running Revised. It provides a nice, unobtrusive penalty/reward system for improving athletics that fits my playstyle nicely.

I use Realistic Leveling for about 3/4 of my characters. I use nGCD the rest of the time. All of my characters use Progress.

Your realism question is lacking in a "none" response, so expect "other" to be highly skewed.

I use realistic leveling for my game. Feels more organic to me than assigning points.

You didn't have Realistic Leveling as a choice. That's the leveling mod I use.
As to the city overhauls, they tend to ruin my fps so I don't use 'em.

You need None of the above options, as others have said. I don't use any overhauls (so it would be nice if None was an option). I don't use Qarl's because it sharpens the textures too much. I use Better Tiling 2048 LOD Textures, Reduced LOD QN2048, Better Grass Textures without Tiling and Really Better Tiling Grass. I may also swap out the LOD stuff for Bomret's Detailed Normal and Bomret's DNMfV HiRes Lanes. I will also use his texture pack for SI. I was using Open Cities Classic but ran into some issues because I frequently reload. I may go back to it at some point or give Open Cities Reborn a try. I don't use any realism mods (this is a category where you should have "none" as an option). Needless to say I use Oblivion XP, but you should list Realistic Levelling so I know who my competition is :)

I'll vote if you fix the poll.

Overhaul:OOO+MMM
Textures: Vanilla are great as is, no need to mod those.
Cities:Vanilla, I have City Life and Crowded cities, so I could get away with Better cities, I think, but not Open cities.
Realism:None yet.
Leveling:nGCD v2.

If you mean in terms of performance, Open Cities isn't a factor, and certainly doesn't have the impact of Better Cities.

I mean in affecting Crowded cities/City life.
Those mods didn't say anything about compatibility with Open cities.

Overhaul: TIE, otherwise happy without any.

Global Texture Pack: Vanilla, and a few for fruit, veges and flora etc.

City replacements: Open Cities Reborn. Used to use Better Cites. Both are excellent in their own ways.

Realism mod: Others: SM Encumbrance and fatigue. And SM Rest (although that is more a way to make sleeping and beds worthwhile when using an automatic levelling mod than strictly a realism mod.)

Leveling Mod: Other: Realistic Levelling.

I'm still unsure about the term "Overhaul". What's the limit of how small or large something can be considered "overhaul" ? Is there such thing as "mini-overhaul"?

Am I allowed to vote for myself? :P

I mainly use my new textures and a few various mods but other than that, I run a total vanilla game. I guess it's because I rarely play my Oblivion character anymore.

In this playthrough, I am using T.I.E. for my overhaul, AmpolX's textures with Mtgr's replacing anything left over, Better Cities, no realism mods, and nGCD for leveling. I love my setup. :)

I don't see why not. :D
It's only one vote after all. And your preference is as good as anyone else's! ;)

Wow! Some good responses - made me raealize how many mods are not even on my radar - I apologize if your favorite mods are not listed there (that is because of my ignorance, not your fav mod's popularity).

Added the suggested options - I guess one cannot edit one's vote, so this may not be the most efficient way to do this, as votes are already counted. Unless you delete your vote and revote.

One can delete one's vote and revote though - which I've now done to properly register my "none" vote for leveling mods :)

Overhaul:
I used to run FCOM with Tie4Mods and WAC (with the OOO patch) and a few tweaks, but my system creaked under the weight, and I reverted back to *just* FCOM last year.

Textures:
Again, I used to run QTP3 (the original unredimized!) when it first came out, but my system simply can't handle high res texture packs, and tbh I prefer some of the vanilla textures so I just manually installed those textures from various sources to replace those that most annoyed me in vanilla.

City Replacements:
Hmmm... The closest I've got is the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19589 unique districts of the IC and a heavily modified Arcane University - the ImpeREAL university together with the patched http://www.fileplanet.com/216598/210000/fileinfo/The-Elder-Scrolls-IV:-O (no longer supported) & http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=32432.

Realism Mods:
I've tried out a fair few, but my other half also plays my Oblivion set-up, and they really annoy her - so I'm now just using the 1.5x fatigue tweak in Wrye Bash, and the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13275 as it's only something you need to think about once per day and isn't too invasive.

Levelling Mod:
None! I've never really seen the point...I'm fine with vanilla - unless anyone can give me a really convincing reason why I should be using one!

edit: to add links

Ok, I've voted now. See my previous comments about texture replacers - you still don't have Bomret's vanilla, as I'll call them. Went with vanilla cities as that's what I'm running right now, but would like to go back to OCC or OCR.

In section titled "City replacements - do you use them? CHOOSE AS MANY AS YOU USE!" you have the option "CURP - does that replace cities?"
The answer to that question is: no. CURP is a resource pack, it does absolutely nothing on its own, it needs one or more ESPs from the CUO collection of mods before it makes any impact in-game.

Some of the mods in the CUO collection edit cities, and most could be considered to be overhauling those cities, so really the option should be CUO rather than CURP.

Damn, us QTP3 users are in serious minority these days :o

Overhaul: Francesco's
Textures: QTP3 + Bombret's SI & various other custom replacers..
Cities: Vanilla + ImpeREAL(sp?) districts and other smaller customizers.
Realism: backwards walking and few other smaller realism mods..
Leveling: Ely's Skill Uncapper ? and francesco's optional components like 12skills needed per lv & slower levelling.
