Poll: Achievements/Trophies in Skyrim

Post » Sun Sep 06, 2009 8:22 pm

Would you want there to be achievements/trophies in TES 5 Skyrim? And what kind do you want them to be?

I personally don't want this achievement/trophy stuff included into elder scrolls 5, it's just the wrong way of telling people when they've played enough of the game by giving them platinum or 100% played through. If there would be however, I would want them to be as fun to get as possible, without having you run around the world searching for stuff (like in fallout NV, the star caps), that's just terrible.

Your thoughts!

Could care less about Achievements. They will obviously be included though. I remember when the only achievement was beating the game. Remember Ultima for the 64? That bastard was beyond tough, and when you beat it it said....it said..."Thanks for playing Ultima"!?!?!?... I punched the monitor after that one. Yet, that's all I want from a game.

Achievements ruin the games for me. I don't want the game TELL me when I've achieved something*, I want to decide for myself. Winning a single monster in a tight fight gives a sense of accomplishment, a sudden text telling you that you've just killed yout 1000th rat and are now a "Mighty Rat Slayer" does not.

*especially when my, and the game developers' ideas of accomplishments not often sync.

Meh, they're fine how they were. Not really all that creative. Then again it would be fun to have some tortuously long ones that would stop achievement hunters in their tracks.

Obviously they will be included on their respective consoles. I personally love achievements when they are creative and cause you to do things you normally wouldn't. And achievements that are actually achievements such as completing all the L4D campaigns on expert. :toughninja:

They are not necessary for the game to be awesome (obviously) but they do add a little bit extra for me and a lot of other gamers.

Edit* I'd also like to add since a lot of people are treating achievements like they are new
Maybe you guys never played games in arcades but that was the whole game. Play over, and over, to try and beat the highscore. Achievements and trophies just seem like a evolution of that. Except you get a ever growing score across all the games you play.
Which to me is awesome.

Well, obviously they'll be there. It's a pre-requisite of console games these days. I don't imagine they'll have any real impact on the game anyway, and since I'll be playing on PC it wont really make the blindest bit of difference to me. I'm glad PC gaming doesn't feel the need to quantify itself with stuff like achievements yet. We have our e-peens for that sort of thing already.

I liked the achivements in Oblivion, they were not too hard to get nor were they in any way annoying. (as in New Vegas for example, do 10k dmg with this and that weapon and so forth).

But more achivements for random, rare events. Like the achievement for killing the Behemoths in Fallout 3. Since if all achievements are connected to guilds and quests it might get a lil dull after awhile.

I don't really care about achievements but I think that a good way of implementing them in Skyrim would be a system similar to that in Sins of a Solar Empire. Optional goals and and self imposed difficulty, like say get through the mages guild without using any magic spells (scrolls would be okay) or never killing anything during the Thieves Guild questline or killing one thousand bandits. That sort of thing. But no popups during gameplay. That's just horrible i an immersive game like The Elder Scrolls.

p.s the Mages Guild thing is a jab at the Oblivion questline and i think killing a thousand bandits durin normal gameplay isn't all that far fetched.

Achievements aren't really game breaking. It's not like you're being forced to get the achievements.
You can play the game just for fun and not care about the achievements, but I think they should still be there for the achievement-[censored]s. I personally will play Skyrim for fun, if I get achievements for just doing things in the game I would have ultimately ended up doing anyway, then cool beans

If there are trophies, so be it - I really don't care as long as I'm playing a great game.

I could honestly care less about achievements and, as I've said on another thread somewhere in the New Vegas section achievements are one of the stupidest things to ever happen to video games. They serve no purpose, have no effect on the game whatsoever. and only give the developers another excuse to make the retail version of the game Steam dependent. So wail achievements will be included I'm going to completely ignore them and just enjoy the game.

I want to see trophies that you get for hunting trophy game
also, aesthetic rewards for quests that can be placed in a purchased house
that would be cool
as for the sort of fps achievements, we can do without.

Personally I don't want that *ping* trophy info appearing in top right corner. I hate it in other games and I certainly don't want to be really emersed in Skyrim when *ping* IMO it'd break emersion. I'm probably in the minority here as most people seem to like them. I find they just distract me from the experience of playing. Don't really see the point of them. I know people like to compare trophies/achiechments with their friends etc but in a single player gaming experience like Elder Scrolls surely it's not neccesary. Trophys=better suited to Call of Duty. Man English is a hard language...

I wish we could go back in time and have these achievements/trophies be gone for ever!

BUT, that will never happen. Sadly.

Waste of time.
"Treehugger: You played one game as a Bosmer!" - WHOOOOOOOOOOOPDEEEDOOOOOOOOO!
"Bush Tax Cut Supporter: You accumulated 1000 gold" - Might as well give me a ribbon for knowing how to open my inventory.

If you ask me what my three most memorable experiences are in Morrowind, I'll talk your ear off. If you ask me what the three most recent achievements I've earned in gaming, all you'll hear is crickets chirping.

I'd rather have the add actual content that artificial means of prolonging the game's life. For me achievements are worthless unless they actually add something (small bonuses) to the game like the ones in Call of Pripyat or Mass Effect and in that case they shouldn't be for stuff like find 100 Xs or whatever.

Actually on second though, I just don't want them.

This is just pointless, 90 % of the people here are PC players and they all look down on console versions, no wonder everyone voted ''Not needed''.

I didin't vote no because I "look down" on console players. I was a Morrowind console player for years before finally switching to the PC version. I voted no because achievements are a pointless waste of time be it on the consoles or on the PC.

I'm a PS3 player and I say no too. Perhaps I should spend a grand on a better PC and join the club :P

The trophies will be in the game and although I ill try to ignore them the best I can and hope they were never placed there, I will eventually try getting them all. Either getting platinum or failing at getting it, will make me stop playing the game as I feel i've got nothing else to gain from it. If there were no trophies, I would enjoy 100% of the play time and stop playing it with a smile, to return someday and enjoy it again.

An anolysis of why trophies were created: to make gamers buy more games and hunt for the trophies. This has worked, believe it or not, as one of my PS3 friends has over 40 platinums, from sherk the game, fat prinsess or what not to call of dutys and assassins creeds. He cannot sincerely enjoy all of the games per ce, but rather the "pling" from getting trophies. Silly much?
