Thanks for that galrgg! Falmer and Dragon Priests, too? Whoda thunk it? I guess they are "sub-human" after all
[EDIT]
Thanks for the Shades "heads up", Birgitte. That is a good and pentiful source, too

Oh, thanks Birgitte! I didn't realize that, I'll have to invest some septims in empty grand soul gems before I do Meridia's quest this time.
White.
I always choose the 'good' route whenever practicable. Though the black star is superior in it's versatility, I still go white.
Oh, and I dig Aranea....
Only used this item in a couple builds - one was a necromancer/assassin so the black souls made sense. I also had aspirations of doing the quest as a vampire lord but never got far enough. The white souls are tempting, but either way, it's kind of wicked.
I believe they have leveled souls, so you'd only get the Grand version at high character level, as with the Falmer and draugr bosses.
Would they have "indicators" like in the names? I'm level 37 and may head there by the time I am level 40
White, my character has a problem with the whole "being energy drained for eternity by ideal masters" thingy, i only do it to most reprehensible of characters because i like dispensing justice that way, but most characters even though evil are not nearly evil enough to warrant that kind of sentence.
I like to harvest the souls of named enemies and then use their soul in making a new enchanted item and I name the item after the victim.
At least with my darker characters, I do that.
I don't name the items after the victims, but I save all my Black Gems for Vampires
I disagree, the Black Soul Gem are more frequent in Skyrim in comparison to how it was in Oblivion, so I guess that the white Grand Soul Gem in Skyrim is about equal to the Black Soul Gem in Skyrim than it was in Oblivion.
In Oblivion you could make black soul gems, however. But in Skyrim we are dependent on what can be scavenged. And, of course, you can't buy them anywhere I know of.
You can buy black soul gems, but only in a couple places -
UESPwiki: 'Standard merchants do not sell Black Soul Gems. To purchase one you must talk to either http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Enthir at the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:College_of_Winterhold_%28place%29 while he is in his quarters, or http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Falion in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Morthal.'
White. The Black Star seems too much like cheating. Mammoths are hard to come by and the other sources are a hard fight, while you can fill the Black Star with any measly bandit. I like more of a challenge.
Or use the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/46142/?....
