a poll for the physics debate.

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:24 pm

so clearly there are at least a handful of people who are fairly up in arms about how the physics works on the giant being dropped by the dragon. and as much as i hate to make another thread about it i am curious as to what the majority of the users on these forums think and since there isnt a poll on it i figured i would create one.

i personally think that the physics on the giant falling is perfectly reasonable. and is more than likely exactly what would happen in a real world situation. given the height of the fall and that it was dropped and not thrown.

i know others think that it looks "cartoony" or that the giants limbs should be flailing around or the giant should be flipping.

as always feel free to post your opinion on the subject.

this is not made to complain about people complaining. its just here to get some numbers. if people want change. numbers are a good way to gauge if a majority would support it or not.

They could be a lot more realistic no doubt but it doesn't really bother me considering a DRAGON CAN LIFT AND DROP A GIANT :ahhh: It's to awesome for me to be annoyed with the physics :P Heck, they may even improve them until the game's released

They look satisfying to me. I want to see come crazy ragdoll if I'm a supermage and blast someone with lighting. One thing to learn about any games official forums is that people will cry about literally EVERYTHING, whereas on general gaming forums not a complaint is to be seen.

Did anyone really expect to see a dragon pick up a ******* giant and toss him before they saw the E3 videos? I thought it was awesome and I think people should be happier that we actually have some cool interaction between enemies this time. The physics really didn't bother me much at all, and without actually seeing the giant hit the ground it's hard to say.

I'd rather have this cool interaction between enemies with awkward physics than have it not in the game at all.

I care not. I can think of reasons for the giant not to flail, from being already dead to being too stupid to worry about it. I can think of just as many reasons why it might indeed flail. But in the end, I say script the fall exactly as it happened and call it an homage to Morrowind's late, departed Tarhiel.

It's a video game. Not real life. Thus, the very fact that AI as big as dragons can literally pick up other AI that you can physically interect with in an open world, sand box video game is quite impressive. I don't understand why some people can't see past the animations, they just don't see the actual details behind it. It's a shame, really.

Have you ever heard about scripted events ? No ? I guessed so.

I think they are fine. If it was an Argonian being dropped, he would probably rotate the tail in order to reduce the falling speed. But the giant is dumb and goes fetal position hoping that he wouldn't crash that bad if he protects his knees.

I didn't mind the giant falling so much. On the other hand the Draugr flying into the air after being electrocuted was a bit weird but i could live with it.

What's the purpose of this again?
How does this help the discussion? Because it's not like you've ráised new points on your defence.
Maybe i got it wrong but could it be you're trying to win via plebiscite what you haven't won via debate?

Sorry. Count me out.

i think the physics look fine, i think a few people are forgetting that those giants a freaking huge and probably weigh tonnes! plus later in the demo we get to see the dragon chuck a guard who looks suitably anguished :celebration:

The giant falling looks weird/awkward and I don't like it. Reminds me of Oblivion's horrible physics.
Also, NPCs hit reactions are far too eh... unsignificant. A bandit gets a good strike at his neck and he doesn't even react. There's something wrong with that.
Finally, the wolf sliding off the road looks weird as well. The wolf shouldn't slide from that angle on a stone road, not at all.

So yeah, there are some fairly big flaws with the physics that are not very good at all, but other than that, I don't see anything bad or wrong with it.

this response was anticipated.
not trying to win anything. thanks for giving me some credit. just trying to see what people who dont exactly feel like posting. and if you want a change. wouldnt a poll be a good way to get an idea of general disapproval. not everything is meant as an attack on you. you dont need to participate.

They can randomly pick up guys. They, we just give them a lot of behaviors, and then they, they do their thing. They can pick up guys, do bombing runs
...
We just give them behaviors, and the AI works, they'll decide in the situation; what is the landscape, can I fly around more, do I need to land, do I need to stomp around, should I pick this thing up?

kthx

Put bluntly the only people complaining about this are ridiculous. It literally does nothing but show that people will try to show their rears as much as possible with the anominity of the internet.

I guess the falling giant is not under the incidence of Havok Behaviour is it?

You do realize that it was confirmed since Jan. that stuff like these are all unscripted...Bethesda has been working on dragons for 2 years, which we've also known for months.

So no, it's not scripted.

This thread is not complaining about the complainers. It is a poll to see how many people are complaining. Still beating on a dead giant horse, but at least it offers something different.

we're forgetting that the demo footage is old. like.. last year old, personally i think it was awesome the drop, the lift was more concernin in my opinion, but its a year old nearly. well, last november i think, so it will have probably been sorted. remember we've seen screenshots of parts of the demo earlier on this year? some of it was in the trailer. its old footage.

The physics so far are a little disappointing, but there are still five month of further development left. Thats plenty of time to polish this.
