Poll: How much resist do you have?

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 1:45 pm

Out of curiousity for mod consideration, how much resist do you run for element/magic defense enchantments on your armor? Generally speaking of course for all elements, not necessarily just one element, unless that's all you run with.

Not much, I enchant with Shield most of the time, rather than Resist Effect.

50% natural; None from equipment.

My wood elf's father was Breton and she inherited 50% magic resistance, which she is grateful for. She is a glass cannon though so she does not augment with any additional defense against magic (or melee for that matter). In fact she dresses only for fashion, so even at her top level of 20, her armor rating is about . . . 6. Lol. She never has raised her base endurance of 30, so getting hit a few times can be fatal - she puts all her effort into killing and not getting hit, rather than defense.

That said, she does carry three rings (in her large jewelry collection). Each provides her some protection from one element. She will slip on a ring to help ward off the cold if up near Bruma, or one to help ward off heat if she is inside the planes of Oblvion. Beats wearing ugly furs in the cold or stripping down to a halter top and loincloth to beat the heat. :)

I had to go with more than 75% due to my dunmer′s fire resistence. On top of that he also has some magic resistence and sometimes 100% resistence to three hazards when using a certain nice little ring

My Breton usually gets the Mundane and Vitality Rings, meaning a WOW immunity to 4 effects.

BUT I've been reconsidering this approach, and next time I play for good, I will think of something that actually grants NO resistance and all.

I'm still newbish w/Oblivion. Only on my second playthrough with a few mods. I usually try to achive 50-75% resistance of several effects, rather than 100% of one or two. I take whatever I can get. I have not yet covered even half of map yet. My first playthrough was too rushed. Need to take my time with this one.

Depends on the character. There are a couple of easily-obtainable rings and a nice shield that give Reflect effects; beyond that my characters usually go with enchantments that suit their strengths and/or weaknesses. So an Altmer would wear shielding against elemental effects, for instance.

My present Nord barbarian is wearing a certain Deadric artifact ring and a ring given her by some guys in a basemant in the Temple District. Other than that, she's just wearing light armor with enchantments that boost her stats. She has no shield, because she fights with claymore and two-handed axe. She has an amulet that fortifies her Intelligence, because she's blonde, and she really, really needs it.

In game engine terms, armor itself is "Resist normal weapons", as far as damage assessment goes. So a Shield spell is effectively a Resist spell for that type of attack.

I've played various combinations of resistances, from full to none, on each of the damage types and I'm heading in the direction Acadian's already trodden of building a character that avoids rather than resisting, just so I have to think about what I'm getting into, and how to play the current situation with vulnerabilities to certain offense. However, the way the game's currently set up, it appears that it's almost impossible to make a melee character that doesn't need huge reflect/resist/absorb at high levels, so the Archer/mage is the only viable build to do that.

I'll still use a virtually invulnerable tank for mod testing, just so I don't have to TGM to avoid the test character dying, so that will probably be one of my melee builds. I have one with 101% reflect damage and 100% resist magic, and another (Atronach) using 100% absorb spell instead of the resist.

She has an amulet that fortifies her Intelligence, because she's blonde, and she really, really needs it.
makes me wonder if I can't make a mod that darkens the character's hair as their intelligence goes up.

I never use resist spells. I try to keep it simple and focused, so I stick to a straight shield spell if anything. My main character doesn't even use that (but uses plenty of fortify skills and stats enchantments).

Always worrying about the right resist spell just seems too tedius to me. And I don't want to haul around some enchanted equipment that's only usefull occasionally.

Uh... Heddvild is a Nord... Uh...

"Glargg" is a blond, too, obviously. Well, he used to be, anyway.

Amen to that. I have a few universally useful spells to help me out if I'm in trouble, such as Flare, Shield, Dispel and Restore Health, but other than that I will only use whatever protection I get from rings etc.

I think a melee build without shield / resist can be viable, but i dont know how much fun would be. u can use some high damage weapon (longsword for high sneak multiplier) with lots of sneak, poison and illusion stuff.

kind of a 'one hit - disappear - repeat' tactic.

I normally have 90%(Breton+two enchanted pieces of armor) so I don't feel like I'm kind of cheating the game. I'll put on another piece for 110% for fighting certain enemies(Lord Volmyr for now). Also playing on the hardest difficulty so I don't feel like I'm making it too easy.

50 from Atronach
25 from Orc race
7 resist fire ring
10 resist magic ring

I'm pretty well protected against magic. In fast magic users are my favorite people to clobber.

None usually. I usually do melee and I find magic users not very dangerous. I shoot them with a bow and dodge their attacks, or run in and chop them to bits.

Edit: Oh wait, I do use the 100% resist type rings sometimes.

It depends on what armor my character is wearing. My sets of Daedric and Ebony armor have no elemental resistance/shield enchantments at all. My set of Glass armor has a total of 45% elemental resistance enchantments on it. He wears a green hood instead of the Glass helmet, and it has a Fortify Magicka enchantment, or it would be at a 54% instead.

Currently, my mage has 25% each of fire, frost and shock shields. That is it for elemental shields, or any other type of shield or resist.
My other character, a ronin, does not have any resists at all.

Ronin? As in Japanese warrior? Would be curious to see how that character looks.

My Dunmer Spellsword is naturally about 75% resistant to fire. He has a helmet and shield which have Frost Shield enchantments which makes him about 40% resistant to frost total. He's somewhat vulnerable to Shock but has a high Endurance and Willpower which negates a lot of the damage.

yes, I had a character that could very much look like a ronin, only called him Ancient Bladesmaster.

I gave him Blade, Marksman, Block, Acrob, Athletics, Armorer, Alchemy... Though rp-wise always thought of tossing H2H somewhere i n there (Alchemy?).

He uses a claymore
Blade
Restoration
Mysticism
Athletics
Marksman
Block
Acrobatics

He is only allowed to use spells from the Mysticism and Restoration schools. He can use scrolls from other schools, but that's it. Born under the Atronach.
