Poll on what Bethesda should do about ps4 mods....

Post » Wed Sep 28, 2016 5:46 pm

So I hope this Pole works as this has been a huge topic that most people are silenceing at the first sign or showing up on the forums as of late.... So as a community that has seen what has happened over the past couple months what do all of you think Bethesda should do?

First of all we do not know everything that happened. It must have been something drastic that made Bethesda to put it on hold for now since it was them that wanted mods in the first place.

Bethesda should just keep an open dialog and continue to see if they can get mods on PS4.

As Bethesda stated, they already tried for months to find an agreement with Sony.

I assume they can't try any harder without possibly comprising their own game/ideals.

Knowing how Sony handles other Q&A matters, it seems clear that Sony will not be allowing mods anytime soon.

It's a Sony problem, not a Bethesda problem. If you want mods on PS4, let Sony know. ;)

However, I do hope that in the future Bethesda tries again (for future games) and that Sony realizes they're only hurting themselves by denying mods.

Given that Bethesda said they'd been going back and forth with Sony for months and Sony still won't play ball, I think the best thing is for Beth to just drop it and move on. If Sony changes their minds at some point then fine and dandy but continuing to argue with them seems like a waste at this point.

I have no stake in this as I have never owned a console. But I cannot imagine why anyone would want Bethesda to give up on mods for the PS4.

I'd just as soon see Bethesda give up on Sony's platform all together.

I know that's harsh to Playstation owners, but between this, the issues with Fallout 4, and Skyrim on Sony's platform, it's obvious that Bethesda has to work twice as hard to make things play nice on Sony's hardware. At a certain point, the overall work put in has to be greater then the overall profits attained. The fact Sony doesn't want to play ball with user created content - in my opinion - makes the choice all that easier in the future.

Don"t give up Beth....I saw something in a link here a week back that suggested Bethesda would try to salvage something of a mod capability for PS4 owners....not what was intended....but something.

Now....how many of those here who are saying...."just forget it" are stuck with only a PS4 console hmm.

I think urging Beth to drop trying to help PS4 owners if you have the luxury enjoying mods on a differerent platform yourself, is a pretty mean attitude toward the PS player community! We are all players together and should be encouraging the best outcomes for our bretheren.

FWIW personally I'm on xbox360.

But my boy has PS4 and he is gutted at the loss of mod support (when we were lead to believe it was firmly 'in the bag')

I'm on PS4. I'm going to get a Skyrim capable PC at some point but at the moment it's the modless console for me. The reason I think Bethesda should drop it is because I don't think continuing to argue with Sony will do any good.

Frost Moglin....

I agree that flogging a dead horse is a waste of time....but you see.....there maybe more than one way to skin this particular cat (horrid phrase I know). Beth may know things we don't (fer shure).

IMO... If Beth as done all that they can, why beat a dead horse? It won't get up and run, Sony isn't going to change their minds.

Give over and start thinking bout a different way to bring some of that content to PS4 players.... Small DLC pack's.. or Updates that bring new things. (which will cause problems also)

But as was mentioned before, at some point it becomes non-profitable for Beth... Yes most companies do thing's "free" to make their customers happy, but their IS a point beyond which it get's ridiculously stupid.

There is always something else that can be done. Just how far are you wiling to show loyalty.

And let me ask you this: How is setting up a service that hosts free mods in any way, ever, supposed to be profitable besides just pre-release marketing to get initial sales?

Yes, firmly lead to believe. By bethesda. Clearly at no point had prior agreement been reached with Sony however that much is obvious. So the ball is firmly in Bethesda's court not to promise stuff they can't deliver trying to pass the buck onto Sony for something they clearly hadn't signed up to is tantamount to misleading consumers IMO.

Precisely!

Like I said earlier....different ways to skin the cat (apologies to my Khajiiti friends).

Maybe PS4 won't get the same 'support' (whatever 'support' actually means) as XB1......but that does not mean they have to give up on the PS community. Fixes and smaller mods could be packaged as optional dlc bundles...even if a small charge was made to cover Beths manpower costs in producing them, I'm sure a lot of PS owning Skyrim enthusiasts would go that route.

Nah! No one is going to pay for what should be free content and fixes you cry!

But....

Lets see...as a theoretical exercise....and not wishing to stir up anything at all ok....

Lets say...just for arguments sake that a very popular and ubiquitous PC bug fixing patch which is HUGE was suddenly charged a tiny fee for. You might be outraged....you might swear out of principle to not pay.....but you KNOW this patch is fantastic and almost almost a requirement for any kind of stable game.....are you really gonna not get it?

Now put that situation to a console user who already experiences all those nasty bugs......do you think the PS4 user would put pride before a much better game? My guess is plenty of people would jump at the chance to get PS4 content even as a paid for dlc bundle.

Darn sure I would. Of course if Beth released such a dlc based upgrade for FREE well....happy happy days eh!

I keep my fingers crossed that a mod or at least improvement option does come out for PS4 owners by any route!

It's not...and that is the part that is..." Free but beyond a certain point it becomes ridicules" ( paraphrasing myself)

I did give a couple options....

Loyalty? to whom? Sony? I am Loyal to Beth...

BTW...I have a PS4, PS3, X-box 1 and PC... did have a 360 til it started smoking...then we had issues :glare:

Loyalty to a point. What is the point of loyalty if it isn't shown back to you? Sorry (not sorry), bit Beth over the years hasn't displayed that too well.

Go ahead and drop the platform from their lineup. It would fall right in line with their amount of loyalty (never on par with a certain group of their fans).

Why pay for any minor DLC that gives primarily bug fixes?!? [censored], Rockstar had been unloading minor free DLC every other month (which also includes big fixes) for GTA V for almost 3 years now.

Pay for patches? Go ahead and buy that if you want. At that point I just wouldn't buy the game.

Charity...Business... which one is Beth taxed under?

The buying public is really fickle... Loyalty.. "It's so bad that the "Mom and Pop" store closed down"... "Yeah, I got it at Wal-mart...was pretty cheap"... Loyalty...

It's my opinion... a business is IN business to stay in Business... We as the public buy their product because we like it, we buy their new product, because we liked the old product. Well IF I was using the Playstation to play Skyrim ( reported buggy from day 1) to whom am I loyal if I switch to a 360, x-box 1 or PC? I like the game... IS it Beth's fault that they have issues with Sony's platform? Or is it Sony's fault for not making it easier for a company to cross-deck?

Ask that one to 10 different people and you'll get 11 answers. In my business I don't offer something for a different machine unless I can match the standard. Usually that requires hiring the right personnel to do the job. If other businesses can do it and I can't, I don't blame the machine or the company who built it.

Business is business as you said. However most business (this is especially true there higher you go up) is built off of relationships to make dollars and cents, not the other way around (though it helps, it's not a pie one way street either).

Groan!

Why pay for bug fixes? Well nobody WANTS or expects to pay for fixes of course....but if the choice came down to...pay a tiny fee to get fixes as a dlc bundle or go without...I Would rather pay and have a better more stable game...that is what I was saying.

My fictitious example of going without the big PC patch was to illustrate that, like it or not....such a huge fix....even as a paid for dlc to console users would be WELL WORTH a minor outlay.....if that is what it took to make it happen!

Of course if you would rather stick to a broken game than pay out a peppercorn buck fifty or something for a nice fixed up game....well that's personal choice (shrug)

I would love to see a poll on that.

"Would you pay for big fixes?"

Yes or No.

One thing I'm wondering about is if Sony allowed mods for FO4, why not Skyrim?

I for one would absolutely not pay for bug fixes, 'less they start releasing them as DLCs all on their own. The product they set out to do should be completed properly without having to pay extra.

I wouldn't pay for bug fixes/patches just on principal. Charging for DLC that adds new quests, areas, NPCs, mechanics etc is fine but patches should be free.

Sadly that is what I would say. Easy for me, I have an Xbox One and PC but not a very good PC. The reason why I wouldn't like to see this is because why shouldn't the people who bought PS4 suffer because of it? Then on the other hand how some people act so entitled and are never grateful for what they get, I almost think that Bethesda should do this and not bother working with Sony anymore.

After all if you want to play The Elder Scrolls, you find a way to do it.

I know back in the day, when Morrowind came to the Xbox I didn't complain or whine when we didn't get patches like the PC did or the expansion packs or "add-ons" or as the call it today "free DLC". I was just happy to be able to play Morrowind. But sadly todays age, there will be many people who would complain about "why can't I get this if PC or Xbox can get it" instead of being greatful "at least I can play on the platform of my preference".

So yes, with people being entitled, I say Bethesda should give up and not bother with Sony anymore. Again, svcks for the people who are thankful for what Bethesda does.
