Poll: What Would You Like To See

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 9:31 am

Well was curious as to what other people were looking for as far as clan support in there FPS's and what they would like to see in Brink. Made a poll with a few general options poll is multiple choice.

For the second question about if you care about clan support was interested in finding out how many people like having that extra competitive level to play on trying to get your clan to the top. I personally believe that all FPS's should have clan support because it not only extends the life cycle of the game by keeping players who have maxed there characters ect playing and working towards something (getting there clan to the top). It also gives those players looking for more of a challenge a playing field to play on so there is something for all types of players wether your casual or hardcoe.

Thats understandable but don't you think it would be nice if they had these options for the more veteraned players so they can challange themselves and not have to be playing in matches all the time with casual players just trying to have fun messing around?

Although im a casual player, if i was invited to a clan i would definately want all these though the dpecial clothing unlocks seem pointless, as people will just join clans to get the gear.

Im unsure what you mean when you say clan challenge system, so an explantion would be cool.

Everything seems good, i was in a killzone 2 clan once for a short time, it was fun and i think brink should take inspiration from it, as that was very successful in the clan support (im sure you already know judging by the avatar ;) )

The game seems to be focused on being a mid way point form beginers to vets. From talk it should be easy to pick up and fun for the hardcoe players.

Well for the special gear unlocks you would have to be in the clan when they get the certain number of victories or whatever requirement to get the gear so if someone just tried to join a clan hoping to get the gear right away that wouldnt happen.

For the clan challenge system I mean say you come across a clan in a game talking trash or your looking at the leaderboards and see a clan you want to challanege simply have an challege option by clicking on someone from the clans name in stats menu or on the leaderboard to send a challenge to the clan and then the leader/ officers could decide if they want to except or not. Just an convenian challenge system.

Yea alot of FPS's could take inspiration from Killzone2's clan support. To be honest I am pretty dissapointed with this trend being started by game devs in the shooter genre of gaming all games being released recently have clans implimented into the game yet there is no support for them. What is the point of having clans in the game if there isnt anything to do in them I dont need another friends list to look at give me something to do. I dont know if its the game devs fault doin things half ***** or the gamers for not speaking out telling them listen this is not acceptible either support your clan system or dont have it in the game at all trying to decieve people that you have something you really dont.

I wouldn't mind leaderboards, or maybe even clan tournaments.

This is one of my main points I listed above. I don't really understand why all these game developers create shooters with clans yet no support for them. Clan support significantly extends the games life cycle meaning they will make more money of DLC ect because after all is said and done and you have maxed your character, got all trophies ect it is still fun to play because you have an objective trying to get your clan ranked to the top and playing against other top players in other clans which makes things alot more fun.

lol, I like the option "It's a nice component but I'm a casual player." - like if you are a talented or "hardcoe" player, you HAVE to join a clan...

My clan days are way behind me. I did the whole clan battles, tourneys, and comp matches thing, years ago. I have learned a lot and understand the fundamentals of class-based team objective gameplay, just as much or more than anyone currently in a clan. The fact that I, or anyone else, chooses not to join a clan, doesn't make us any less "hardcoe" or any more "casual."

A good portion of "clans" I see, are either just groups of friends who wanna game together, or kids who wanna be "cool" so they add a tag in front of their name.

Horse I think that casual in this context means "does not take part in clan-based activities". Stuff that would require you to have a clan wether its a grp of friends, kids or professionals with sponsors.

Casual for me has a very wide definition and is determined by context and what it's compared to. What's the rocksolid definition of "casual" that you are sticking to?

Um, the one in the dictionary...

- Occurring at irregular or infrequent intervals; occasional: casual employment at a factory; a casual correspondence with a former teacher.
- Unpremeditated; offhand: a casual remark.
- Being without ceremony or formality; relaxed: a casual evening with friends.
- Not serious or thorough; superficial: a casual inspection.
- Showing little interest or concern; nonchalant: a casual disregard for cold weather.
- Lenient; permissive: a casual attitude toward games.
Not close or intimate; passing: a casual acquaintance with avant-garde music.

The above definitions can apply to players both in or not in a clan. Like a group of guys who have full time jobs and real life priorities that just wanna get together and play a couple hours a night or maybe only certain nights a week. You don't have to accumulate 40+ hrs. a week in game time, and know the ins and outs of every map to be in a clan, and even if you are that guy, you don't have to join a clan to avoid being labeled as "causal."

To me, it just sounded like the TC was biased or used favoritism - It appeared that since he/she was into clans, then it must be "serious" or "hardcoe" and anyone not interested, must be "casual."

I like how you get get all defensive and are quick to brag about how much you know bashing players who like a competitive play. Being in a clan does show if your a hardcoe player of a casual player because like you said there are alot of people that just like to brag and want to look cool with a tag nxt to here name and with clan support you can see who is legit and who is just runnin there mouth by challengig there clan and looking on the leaderboards. If your serious your clan will be up there and if your not and your then yu obviously havent put the time into working out strategies and practicing to be a serious player.

So as much as you say you supposedly know much more about the fundementals of team based objective gampelay ect you obviously must not know that much or you would still be playing on that level. Don't hate on people for wanting a more competitive level to play on if you dont care to play in serous competitive matches to test your skills and make yourself better cool but some people like the challenge. I'm not saying anything against anyone who just wants to have fun and mess around thats cool to and everyone person plays games the way they like and in there own way.

I agree some people are like that but even without clan support some people are going to brag about how much the know and how much better they are. Clan support has nothing to do with that happening its just the personality of the gamer. I am all for more options in games because then more people will pick up the game and it will appeal to a more varied audience.

And I like how you are quick to get all defensive, and address points that have nothing to do with my original post....

I'm not "hating" on people who enjoy competitive gameplay or having clan support in Brink. Of all the things you mention in the poll

# Clan Leaderboards
# Clan Challenges
# Tournaments for Clans
# Special Clothing Unlocks Through Clans
# Being Able To Design Clan Logos For Clothing
# Clan Match Replays

I did not bash, point out, or even mention any of them. My post was on the fact that the TC seems to be biased or misinformed in one particular option:

It's a nice component but I'm a casual player.

And in that entire speech you delivered above, you failed to address the key reason for my post in the first place, and instead, went right for the throat, pointing out things that were totally irrelevant.

Being in a clan does show if your a hardcoe player of a casual player because like you said there are alot of people that just like to brag and want to look cool with a tag nxt to here name and with clan support you can see who is legit and who is just runnin there mouth by challengig there clan and looking on the leaderboards. You seem to a little misinformed here...The things mentioned in the above quote does not show whether you are a hardcoe player or a casual player, it shows that you are a hardcoe CLAN MEMBER or a casual one. A player can play everyday and have the skill, tactics, and battle awareness of any top tier player, but after joining a clan decides its not for him - he isn't suddenly a casual player now. He's still "hardcoe," he's just not in a clan.

Alright I stand corrected on this point I didnt mean to put it that there arent good players who are serious gamers not outside clans I meant that from your point that there are alot of people who make clans to feel cool ect it is easier to sort out who is serious and who isnt because you can challenge them or look them up on the leaderboards. You can't do 1v1 to see if a person can really back up what they say so clans make it easier to sort o. Did that make sense at all lol?

And on the first note yea i'm going to get defensive every thread I post on your right there getting an attitude all up on my junk like you have a bone to pick with me I wasnt tryng to offend anyone and like I said to each his own I got no problem with people that just want to play to unwind from the days stress and mess around and I got nothing against people that are super serious and treat each game like its a life or death situation lol.

I'm not biased in anyway if thats how I came off I apologize I am just excited when I see games with clan support because they are rare especially at this time in gaming. there all these shooters coming out with clans but like you said there is no meaning to them because its just a tag next your name and another friends list to look at so it is nice t see some support to go along with the clans actually giving meaning to them you know what I mean?

You will find that if someone states something that isn't entirely or correct or something I don't agree with, I will call them out on it. It's nothing personal, it's just that some people say a lot of things that need correcting or I feel different about (like you) and some people are on the same page as me most of the time (like Wraith)

You are seriously argueing over the definition of "casual" when all this is about context? Maybe I should be asking you about your definition of "hardcoe gamer"? Is spending 12 hours aday enough to be considered hardcoe or do you need to be a min-maxer too? =S

I think you are reading too much into that line by OP. He just wanted to differ the (1*) player from the guys that want to do tournaments and scheduled fights against other clans. And he happpened to use "casual" as a contrast to tournament player.

Your responses allways come off a bit rigid imo Horse. Lighten up, don't take everything so seriously =).

PS. (1*) What should you call the player that doesn't participate in clan tournaments? Horse at least object against using casual in this manner... you can't really use regular either incase clantourny plaers are more commin... I can't really come up with a simple definition for that kind of player. DS.

When it comes to jokes and messin around with my friends, I lighten up, when it comes to discussions and opinions, I'm all business. NOTHING is trivial to me when I debate/discuss.
I am also very anol when it comes to what people say or how they say things. I tend to take things more literal than most people, and expect people to say what they mean, and not justify it later.

Which I explained here:

does not show whether you are a hardcoe player or a casual player, it shows that you are a hardcoe CLAN MEMBER or a casual one.

you're right, he would be considered casual - a casual clan member, which I already explained.
