Poll: Would you join the Enclave?

Post » Sat May 04, 2013 9:35 pm

Unfortunately this isn't a joke, but killing all the humans would make a safe world.

Assuming the Enclave hasn't been killed off....

Yeah. I would join. Why? Well because I'm selfish.

The Enclave has access to great medical care, highly advanced scientific knowledge, a clean warm bed every night in a safe and very secure location, access to highly mobile transport (vertibirds), and a soldiery who are highly advanced, trained, and strong enough to defeat virtually any threat.

I'd just be a peaceful scientist and tinker away at computers or whatever safe inside whatever government facility we were staying in.

Edit: Just realized this was an in-game question. Not a "if you were dropped in the Fallout world" question. Still, some of those points still stand.

Correction: he was written poorly, like just about every other leader in Fallout 3.

There's no poll option for "Yes, if I feel like it", so no vote from me.
Though there really isn't any Enclave to join, all that remains is remnants.

No, I would not.

I''d like to see what people think of the Enclave if they lost all of their tech and started wearing foot ball pads and skirts, somehow I doubt they'd get as much attention as they currently do with their power armor.

They'd probably have as much popularity as a group of luddite football pad wearing slavers would.

Yeah, you are right. Because the Enclave isn't a technologically backwards tribal group they get attention. They have highly advanced pieces of equipment that some factions in the fallout world can only dream about, and is the faction with the only real effective air-force in the entire series.

Its the sheer fact that they can produce this sort of equipment in a post-apocalyptic environment and have been doing so since the end of the Great War that adds to their mystique and popularity. Very few factions can claim the level of technological progress that the Enclave wields. I see nothing wrong with that being a factor in why some people like them.

No, because you can't. You don't "join" the Enclave.

Because for most people it has nothing to do with that, and I'm not even talking about their technological advancement outside of their Power Armor, I can tell you're a smart Enclave supporter, but I'm sure many people only like them because of their cool power armor, why does their appearance give them a free pass to do whatever the [censored] they want? Unlike the Legion, the Enclave's plan is based on the ignorant, and false idea that the wastelanders are 'mutants', and they're willing to kill millions to get rid of them, but their advanced technology is supposed to make that okay somehow? But as soon as some guys in skirts start killing on a much smaller scale because of ideological differences (as opposed to sheer ignorance) they get labeled as stupid tribals.

So basically,
Mass murdering innocents with advanced tech = Good
Regular fighting on a smaller scale which humanity has been doing for centuries, while in foot ball pads = Bad

"You have died; along with everyone else on the Earth. The Enclave triumphs, releasing the FEV virus into the atmosphere."

Somehow this okay as long as you do it while looking good.

The name is just for show now, apparently.

Oh yeah, of course. No argument from me there.

But that can go for just about any faction don't you think? Some people like the Brotherhood because of the cool power armor, regardless of the fact that they don't realize just how ineffective the West Coast Brotherhood is. Some people, I'm sure, just like the Legion because they dress up like Roman Legionaries and act like the Roman Empire.

I mean don't you think there are Legion supporters who would not support the Legion if they were just regular slavers saying that they'll "rebuild the world"? Same thing. And to them I would say, why does being Roman wanna-be's give them a free pass to treat women like garbage, annihilate whole towns, and act holier than thou when they are little more than savage tribals?

Some people don't give a [censored] about faction reasoning. There's "smart" supporters and "fake" supporters to every faction.

To be fair, when you are talking about a video game faction with zero implication to the real world.....

...Yeah. Pretty much.

So basically your irritated that seldom few like the Legion based on their asthetics? Oh noes... I mean really guy, is this that big of an issue; sometimes people just like things because they look cool and the Legion certainly don't look cool (nor, for that matter, does Fallout 3 Enclave Power Armour but too each their-own).

I doubt the crowd who feign support of the Enclave seriously consider them good people.

EDIT: I'd also greatly contest your notion that the Legion are more ideologically driven than ignorantly; I also enjoy how you try to make that distinction a positive in the Legion's favour.

You..take..that...back.

Indeed. If you consider them good people, you are invariably not an Enclave supporter.

Or you are just terribly misinformed.

I'll give you the paldrons (those were just badly graphically implemented, which is partly due to Fallout 3's engine) but I do seem to be one of the few people who actually likes the Fallout 3 Enclave armor.

It annoys me because, in a Legion argument, people are constantly talking about The Legion and the bad things they do, or more specifically, how stupid they are, and yet for some reason I see that way less when talking about The Enclave, despite them being way worse (normally I would respect your opinion on this faction, but after seeing the Fallout 2 game over message that I put in my last post, I refuse to, I doubt The Legion's death toll is in the millions) I can only assume it's because of their power armor, it's really frustrating when people are constantly bring up how The Legion are evil because they kill and [censored] people, but if you just throw on some power armor it's perfectly fine.

But they are driven ideologically, whether or not thier ideals are correct are debatable of course, but it's no question that's it's ideological, the only reason they're fighting the NCR in New Vegas is because they have directly opposing ideologies. And like I said their philosophies may not be correct, but at least they're not fighting because they think the millions of wastelanders with the tiniest doses of radiation are mutants and need to die.

But, I'd rather not turn this into an Enclave Vs. Legion thread, since we have one already, so let's just agree to disagree.

That's because everybody accepts that the Enclave is bad, you'd have to be a moron to try and contest that fact; there's also a very definate out-come to their intentions with identifyable benefits. Most people simply don't consider what the Legion offers to out-weight the means in-which they seek to acheive it and I personally agree on this front and there-fore take affront to people trying to justify it.

Yeah, that's Caesar... and the brainwashed, ill-educated cannon-fodder whom revere Caesar as a messiah?

One of my favorite things about Fallout is how evil you can be, I still don't understand why we haven't been given a chance to join the Enclave considering that. I would join them right a way with a character, even if it was just to gain their trust and wipe them out the same way I betrayed Caesar. Then I may role play an evil character and enlist again.

I always play three playthroughs. One good, one neutral and one evil. For my evil RP playthrough, I would TOTALLY join up with the Enclave if the option were available.... and then I would betray them.... because I'd be evil.

No way am I going to get stuck guarding a vertibird hangar for 9 hours again!
Seriously though, I would join. I'd always hoped to be able to start off a fallout game with the option of joining any of the factions, and play until the end to complete said factions goals. Would make for great replayability if you could join any faction and play through the same game each time as a different one. One faction may have a boot camp - another may have you complete a series of tasks to prove yourself worthy. Would be fun I think.

Only if I wanted to play through the game as one, which I would only consider for a change of pace. I would never join them otherwise.

Again I don't think anyone considers them "good" what they do is largely unpopular on these forums and i'm sure to the citizens in there respective games and opposing factions, mass genocide is never a morally righteous action even if you feel it's for the greater good... unless this is what your getting at ?

I would join the Enclave for RP reasons, in the same way I might side with Prince LaCroix in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. I know they are doomed to failure because of their own stupidity, but it's nice to see how the villain's shoes fit.

I would here are the reasons why.

1: They are the only faction with aircraft thus air superiority which is important.

2: They have a huge fear factor seeing your buddy turn to plasma goo, will take the fight right out you.

3: They have bases in secure locations and the bases are nice and clean and radiation free.

4: They have a good amount of robots at their disposal.

5: They have a plan for the wasteland even though it's an evil one, and they have the tech to make it possible.

But did they have a Giant Robot? nope and Giant Robot obviously wins against all.

Everyone has some kind of fear factor.

Their main base was destroyed by one man (if you choose too).

Again Giant Robot wins against all.

They were (effectively) taken out by one man, with some assistance from Brotherhood.

Enclave are jerks instead of asking nicely or peacefully negotiating a collaboration with the Brotherhood for Project Purity they just start trying taking it by force (unsuccessfully).

Giant robot seems to win against all until an orbital strike comes down and annihilates it.

The one man that took them out was the player any faction that goes up against the player loses.
