Popular clothing mods?

Post » Fri Nov 19, 2010 12:25 am

I'd like to know what clothing mods for Morrowind are popular these days. Once, long ago, I had an idea to make my own mod mod-flexible. That is, the mod itself wouldn't contain any clothing meshes and textures, but depending on what mods are installed on player's computer, NPC would wear clothings imported from those mods. I had the list of some selected mods I wanted compatibility with, but I believe most of this list is sorely outdated nowadays. If I'll try to implement this idea once again, I need to know what reasonably small list would cater to majority (or at least significant part) of modern Morrowind players - at least to those who use clothing mods at all.

Tough to say what is popular. You might try clicking the "http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/TopRated.php?content=mods" link at PES, and scan for clothing mods. I tried a little url-hacking to see if I could get results for just the clothing category, but PES stumped me. But that would leave out CI's Robe Replacer and other good stuff not at PES. It looks like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/search.php does allow you to sort by downloads after a search, but they don't put clothes in a single category. Anyway, if I wanted to answer that question, I'd probably try starting with that.

i think there are plenty of popular clothing mods. as john.moonsugar stated, CI's robe replacer is one of them. hilgya the seamstress was elected into hall of fame some time ago, it seems to be very popular as well. also clothing and armor mods made by westly are often seen on screenshots. koranas clothiers of vvardenfell is often said as a must-have. you should find all of them with google :)

The following are the clothing mods I installed last time I modded my game (several months ago).

http://www.psychodogstudios.com/betterclothes/

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7401
NOTE: Overlaps with Better Clothes, so do Better Clothes first.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6272
NOTE: Overlaps with Darknut's Better Clothes. This mod is probably completely overwritten by Ice's Robe Replacer.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6736
NOTE: Overlaps with Darknut's Better Clothes. The esp file must be updated.

http://grotto.moddersrealm.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=20
NOTE: Used the PLUS version. Merge levelled lists.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=7335
NOTE: Overlaps with RIngs and Amulets & Unique Finery Replacer on amulets, rings, belts, and gloves. Make sure this one is SECOND.
Also, conflicts with Modern Adventurer in Foreign Quarter Canolworks.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1650
NOTE: Overlaps with Unique Finery Replacer & Unique Jewelry and Accessories on amulets, rings, belts, and gloves. Make sure this one is FIRST.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7673
NOTE: Use UniqueFinery_NoRobe.esp. Overlaps with RIngs and Amulets & Unique Jewelry and Accessories on amulets, rings, belts, and gloves. Make sure this one is THIRD.
WARNING: Has a problem with Zenithar's Hands. Check for UPDATE.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6188
NOTE: The esp file must be updated wrt Morrowind.esm.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6249
NOTE: The esp file must be updated wrt Morrowind.esm.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6701
NOTE: The esp file must be updated wrt Morrowind.esm. There is a merged esp that can be used instead of the three esps. It also must be updated. Use the merged one.
NOTE: Both esps get the following error:
Object reference "kz_r_chest_03_cloths" missing in master file.
Current file "Scissors & Thimbles Merge.esp"
Cell "Vivec, St. Olms Tailors and Dyers Hall"
Got around the problem by loading into TES CS, saving, using TESAME to clean it, and loading the cleaned version.

Here are some others I'm considering using:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6207
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7098

because of:

I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely think that these are among the upper tier:

Better Clothes (with Darknut's retexture)
Hilgya Seamstress (plus expansion)
Clothiers of Vvardenfell
Ice and NioLiv's Robe Replacer

There are certainly lots of other good works that spring to mind, but when I think of clothing packs these seem like some of the most prominent.

All of the above, plus Leaves of Lorien has some fantastic armor.

I tried to install all three Scissors & Thimbles mod and no matter how much I tinker with them I still can't get the new clothes to work. When I select barter I only see the blank icons and if I try to equip anything the game crashes to desktop. I hate to change the subject to tech support but if anyone knows the answer it'd help me out a lot. Thanks!

I put the .esm's and .bsa's in Data Files and ran bsa.reg but it said they didn't need to be updated. Is there anything else I need to do with them? Honestly I'm not particularly familiar with bsa's.

Open your ini and double check that they got registered correctly.
Your ini should look something like this:
[Archives]Archive 0=Tribunal.bsaArchive 1=Bloodmoon.bsaArchive 2=Scissors & Thimbles 1.bsa (or whatever the Scissors & Thimbles bsa's are called)Archive 3=Scissors & Thimbles 2.bsa

Number the Archives according to how many bsa's you have registered.

Okay...it appears I don't have archives at all for S&T. Should I just insert what you're showing me here ^^ ?

http://www.slofshive.co.uk/index.php?page=modsection&modsections/id=5qskrqxlkpc are both exelent. Though not lore correct in any sense they are great in selection and quality.

Edit: Though I have no idea how one would distribute these clothes to NPC's :cheat:

Chances are very good that the ReadMe has all the instructions. Read it.
Or, read my post above.

edit: Note that I guessed at the BSA's name. The ReadMe will have the correct name for the Archive.

Well I know, I've been following the readme but there are still no archives for S&T at all. What I was hoping to find out here is whether entering the information in the ini file the way you showed is all I need to do. You know, with the correct name of the bsa's as you said.

Yes, you can do it manually if the BSA Register isn't working for you :)

Looks like part 1 is called: Scissors & Thimbles.bsa
You'll have to check how part 2-3 are named though.

Return to III - Morrowind
