Portable Scrapping Unit

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 8:57 pm

Now that I know certain items can be recycled for construction materials, I wish we could do it away from the settlements.

Example, there was a time when I was low on rubber and kept running past lots of tires.

Everytime I saw one, i kept wishing I could scrap them and take the material away with me.

Ceramic is the big one, there are lots of sources, but you can't pick them up and take them!

There is no option to remove washbasins and toilets from the buildings to take them to a workstation!

Also, there are often times when the derelict car or whatever is just outside the boundary line and therefore, untargetable.

Which got me wondering, could we get a portable scrapping unit?

A device which allows us to scrap items away from the settlements to get the raw materials needed from objects we can't take away from the buildings.

I saw a mod on the nexus, which spawned in a workshop wherever the player was standing, and turned that cell into a settlement. So you could use that, scrap everything you needed, take the materials and the destroy the workstop. But something a bit easier will no doubt come along as the modding community works out what is possible.

Maybe a little wagon that you could tote around, that would be cool. Perhaps a brahmin? Would be super cool.

Except I don't know if you could take that inside buildings too.

By that, I mean when you click on a door and are transported to a self contained cell.

There are also buildings (the tower where you find Strong) that have multiple levels and I can't really see a Brahmin negotiating all the stairs and pitfalls along the way.

What I wanted was something that could be carried in inventory or perhaps as a backpack that can go anywhere the character can.

It should be easy enough to do. If you really want it just have a look at other mods that do something like that and work it out, or maybe just mail their creators and ask them. It is probably just a case of setting some flags to make it salvageable or not. But as I said, there are already ways of doing it, they are just a little messy, so it is only a matter of time before it is refined.

I hear you. Maybe something that you could leave in a certain area? Or maybe something like the flare to call in Minutemen? I don't really know how that works, I haven't used it yet.

Being able to scrap on the go would've been perfect for rank 3 scrapper....
