portable tent / camp out

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:43 am

do you guys and girls think that it would be cool to camp out in the forests, say if buying a house was too expensive or boring you could purchase a tent which you can "deploy" anywhere you want in the map and light a campfire, eg: you have picked a side quest to explore a fort you can camp near the area rather than walking or fast traveling all the way back to a town to pick up an item and travel all the way back. leave a comment

No tent, but bedrolls should definitely be an item you can carry, perhaps on the back of your horse?

I want a deployable tent for the purpose of not having to find a random bedroll. Anything else would merely be icing on the cake in my opinion.

I don't see why not. There was a very decent camping kit mod in Morrowind, and it worked fine.

TheElderScrolls, how would a tent not fit in this game?

Yes. the Portable Campsite mod for Oblivion was awesome. (Tent, bedroll, campfire, sack, stool) could be purchased seperately, and set up how you like.
So yes, something like this for vanilla Skyrim for sure.

I always hated being half way through a dungeon, or just plain far away from a bed and then getting the "You should rest and meditate on what you've learned" message, a bed roll at the very least would be an improvement to me. Of course there should be a chance of waking up in the middle of your sleep by an enemy trying to kill you.

Morrowind and Oblivion were both full of tents...how do they suddenly not fit the game now?

Guess someone forgot to tell the devs that those tents don't fit the game.

Fine with a bedroll, personally hope theres a backpack type thing but not getting my hopes up.

Putting an entire tent up isn't really needed though

I want a portable bedroll. An adventurer isn't an adventurer without a bedroll.

Of course you shouldn't be able to sleep everywhere as it's so cold in Skyrim. Maybe in a cave for example.

yea the customizable tent idea sounds good you could have bedrolls for indoor and outdoor and a tent and campfire for outdoors, be funny if you caught some one stealing your things :toughninja:

Or anywhere you can set up your thick, well-insulated bearskin tent. :P

Yes to a tent. The question is would the character actually pitch a tent real-time? and would the player be involved with pitching the tent? or would you press a button and a tent appears there?

Anyway, I would like to have tents of varying size too. anything from one of those little triangle tents, to something like one of those larger yurts in Morrowind, (which are very similar to the http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9b/Gurvger.jpg actually, and as nomads of a northern region, I feel these kinds of yurts would work in Skyrim).

THIS,... I agree it was nice in Morrowind to be attacked while resting and in Daggerfall while fast traveling it would be interrupted by an attack adds to realism

I disagree with the weather in skyrim you would need more then a bedroll in many areas so it wouldnt be out of character to need the added benefits of a shelter of some kind

The "so cold in Skyrim"-part is hardly accurate. I don't know if you've noticed, but a lot of the areas we've seen so far seem to be rather temperate. Just like Scandinavia, which Skyrim is based on (which certain people will be happy to remind you). Therefore, a cave should not be necessary, except for in the colder areas that is.

I'm not sure I like the idea of putting up an actual tent though. Well, I kind of do, it just seems silly to carry around a frickin' tent, when a bedroll would suffice. Although, a tent could probably protect against Skyrim's weather...

I like the idea of pitching a tent and setting up a bedroll, but I think there should be some risk or sacrifice associated with them. I mean, if you're carrying an entire tent and bedroll on your back, that's probably gonna be a bit weighty, right? So it should encumber you quite a bit. Also, I agree with the random attacks while sleeping in the wild.
