Portal 2 Discussion: The Rebirth

Post » Tue Oct 12, 2010 11:03 am

I NEVER seen this coming. http://cpucount.zapto.org/

Straight line with a constant slope no matter how many potatoes or CPU's are active. Rigged. So so rigged. Oh so rigged. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im6yRpQrsaY&feature=related Even worse the active CPU's reach a low point and the thing SPEEDS UP! So rigged. I'm calling it. Giving this the Valve rigged contest seal of authenticity. Thanks to charlysotelo2 of the steam forums for the page link. Not to mention as more CPU's are added it still keeps the same linear rate. I give this guy my Mentok of the day award. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC4jZKSU8G4

Edit
Hahahah Valve and those companies made off like madmen with the money. There were whole groups dedicated to buying the potato sack or its games so they could unlock it faster. Hahahahah. Oh my god. Too funny.

Edit
The page does work, it's just finicky. And his bandwidth is probably being killed off by so many people trying to look at it.

Edit
Another fine sample of the trickery. http://cpucount.zapto.org/game/18500

Having to avoid a load of sites to make sure I don't see any spoilers. I'm monitoring the Facepunch.com thread about the ARG, and apparently everywhere else on the site is spoiler central. Don't even know how people know the plot yet, did hear talk of a leak though. On the bright side, wer're about to complete Toki Tori :celebration:

Yes, unless I get hit over the head with a sack of potatoes.

Well, Gamgee is right, it's rigged, although we do have a tiny amount of influence, I believe. Apparently going to release just before midnight today (GMT) assuming there are no more multipliers or anything, so I'm feeling an all-nighter coming on.

We will be baked, and then there will be cake.

...Made out of potatoes. At least the ones we don't hit Gamgee with. :P

I can't believe I didn't discover this thread before. Toki Tori is done, and Bit.Trip Beat is about to be completed.

It's rigged and now there's a super happy fun prize at the end. Something unlocks pretty soon. I suspect it isn't portal 2 anymore, what with Glados going on a rampage and hacking into the arg wiki and tampering with things. It's all one big set up, with probably a bad ending. We just woke up Glados. How can anything good come from that? Now we get Portal 2 as a consolation prize. God help me if one more "smart" person says, but Glados isn't real. If your dumb enough to not know I mean Valve posing as Glados for their arg game. God people on the steam user forums are idiots sometimes.

Not one to disseminate false data. I have come to show a correction. Blue line = active CPU's. Black Line is the progress of Rush's bar. A valve employee added in rate of change. So yes the number of CPU's is technically affecting the game. http://img688.imageshack.us/i/chartga.png/ It's just on such a miniscule level with such an unreachable goal it may as well never have been started. The Valve employee said he would let us make our own judgement calls on it, which is kind of a weak way to say that the difference people are making is negligible. I think something like 1:30am - 4am Tuesday as the projected launch time. Damn that's way less than we've been speculating, and we set our goals pretty low.

So feel proud, you did have an effect. Though it amounts to throwing out a few pebbles of wreckage if all of New York city got covered in dirt.

Edit
So rigged, but hey at least they gave you the opportunity to launch it a few hours earlier.

Edit
I suppose if enough people continue to waste their time we could see it released really late Monday. They still technically have all of that day to slightly influence it.

I had assumed their original decision to unlock it at 7 am PST (which is ridiculous if you ask me) was because they wanted to do this little promotion to release the game a bit closer to midnight, but without risking the possibility of having to release it earlier than midnight.

Sounds about right. I can't believe I let optimism slip in there for awhile and thought it might be out midnight Sunday. So released around now.

Edit
Worse case scenario. No one plays the games tomorrow or does anything with the ARG/potatoes to get it to a midnight launch. Console gamers everywhere laugh at us for wasting our time and get it spot on at Midnight.

Time wasted? I had fun doing that.

Actually, I might be able to sneak in a few more if Portal 2 doesn't come out tomorrow (which it probably won't).

This morning there was an accident on a Dutch highway involving a large truck. It resulted in 31,000 kilos of potatoes rolling across the road.

Damn it GlaDOS.

See, it's no wonder the timer seems to slow down. How does that fit Smarty Pants Mr Gamgee's theory, hmm? :P

The current release estimate is Tuesday at ~1:28 am PST, if I did my mathz right. I'm sure it'll wind up being released even earlier... conveniently around midnight.

Edit: Mathz came from http://www.aperturescience.com/glados@home/ yo.

Well i preoredered it from my favorite webstore, the one that allows legally bypassing VAT by selling from the little autonomous island in the Baltic Sea :hehe: I rather save 10€ than be able to play it right after it's released.

I'm hoping it includes a hint when Episode 3 Forever (is a lie) might be released ;)
