Portal 2 Discussion: The Rebirth

Post » Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:36 pm

I made a Portal 2 discussion thread a long time ago, immediately after Portal 2 was announced in March 2010. I managed to keep it on life support since then, keeping it sufficiently away from the risk of being pruned. But it seems that after the last forum update it mysteriously disappeared, despite my older topics still being here. So I'm forced to start a new one.

Portal 2 is (probably) going to come out on April 19th, assuming there are no more delays. It'll be coming out on PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PS3. It also has co-op, which is why I made this thread in the first place. If you intend to get Portal 2 and want to play co-op, post your Steam ID, Gamertag or PSN ID and I'll add them to the list. The previous list disappeared with the previous thread.

If I get it, I'll most likely get it for PC, but I'll put my gamertag here too just in case.

Trying to decide if I want to get it through steam or physically through the mail. If they don't offer up any goodies then i'll get it through steam, but I am DEFINITELY getting it. The Co-Op mode has me wondering how things will work out and i'll certainly be making maps for it.

If you buy the PS3 version, you get the PC version with it for free.

Guess I know which one I'm buying.

Well that's, uh... unexpected. Good for PS3 users, but of course we PC users once again get shafted when it comes to cross-platform play with our Dreamcasts. :shakehead:

I was kinda of hoping Gabe wouldn't pull something like this. I'm for equality on Gaming Platforms but this is really unfair for the 360 users. PS3 get three copies for the price of one.

They had their chance to bow to the King a long time ago with Team Fortress 2 content updates. They challenged him. That's like challenging the Joker. Even if he's locked up in Arkham Asylum at the end of the day, there's still a metric ton of [censored] he managed to [censored] up that day.

The PS3/Steam integration is making me glad I was planing on getting Portal 2 for PS3. I can't wait. If it's anywhere near as good and clever as Portal, it'll be awesome.*

PS3id: NumberoftheJon

Edit:*As a side note: talk about some extremely tough standards to live up to for Valve; just about everyone loves Portal.

Great... 360 users are getting the shaft. However some may say that it's about time. I say that nothing should ever be shafted.

Anyway, I literally don't know anybody that owns a PS3, and most of my friends that are going to get Portal 2 don't have good enough rigs to run it leaving them with the the 360 version.

gamgcc is me on Steam. Though my name shows as Gamgee.

Aw, what the heck. I'll throw my name into the hat too. Help yourself to my Steam id. c:
It's "Metrophor", same as here.

EDIT: Damn, forgot to mention the platform I play on.
Add me to the PC list.

To be fair, I don't think Steam would have screwed over Xbox 360 users if this option was actually available on that platform. There have only been a small number of cross platform games for the Xbox 360 and PC, and the only one I can remember, Shadowrun, used GFWL on the PC. Just like Valve wouldn't allow Portal 2 to be run with GFWL just to enable cross-platform play, Microsoft wouldn't allow Steam to touch their platform just for this.

I don't know if I'm going to buy this for PS3 or PC yet. Valve has always done their best work on PC, but now they're saying the PS3 version will be the best one, although that could be Sony paying them off...

Either way, I'm getting it.
