porting meshes from Oblivion to Skyrim

Post » Fri May 18, 2012 1:08 am

Hi everyone,

I have a technical question here.

Meshes are meshes so in theory every original meshes (I mean custom made meshes) can be ported from Oblivion to Skyrim without any problem...

Am I right or am I wrong...Is there a specific process of adaptation or can it be ported straight from Oblivion to Skyrim?

Thanks for your help

I have not tried Oblivion to Skyrim, but Oblivion to Fallout or Fallout to Oblivion, I needed to import into Blender, then export into the game's nif version.

You can port the meshes without problems, but NIF files contain not only meshes but additional info like textures, collision or basic animation-loops. The structure of the nif files is changed with every game.

With http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/ you can save the Oblivion NIF's mesh as obj file and import it into a Skyrim NIF.

You might also want to contact the original authors, because many, including myself do not want any of their meshes ported to Skyrim.

Don't worry about that I've always asked permission whenever using someone elese's work and for all of my mods I have ever done in Oblivion whether those were public (feel free to check them out) or private...
I fully respect the work of others alway have and always will be...
