Positive thinking with the Q&A

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 1:46 pm

I've been browsing the forum for the past few hours as the forum has launched itself into turmoil over the recent release of the Fan Interview. I'll admit many sensitive topics were addressed, and this disappointed and even angered many people. The vast majority of the topics created in response are those of negativity that has polluted this forum for as long as I've been posting.

This thread is for the purpose of discussing the positive aspects of the interview. Bring your complaints elsewhere.

Most people are very well justified, I find the Q and A very depressing. Some may be overreacting (and I may well be one of em)

I agree, the Forum atmosphere hasn't been this depressing in a long, long time. While I feel some changes are a bit Iffy, I would like to give them a chance before judging.

To be fair the better threads like the most popular threads on the Q&A ATM allow you to discuss both sides of the coin in a fair way as it should be. The fact that they turned negative after starting out neutral will show a lot more than a thread like this.

I'm fine with people disliking features, its our right. However, the way people display this dislike is mean-spirited, childish, and quite honestly depressing. I'm fine with you disliking feature X, but I don't need to hear about it and how its ruined your life in every single thread. Lets act like advlts here, guys, and make this place at least tolerable. If I were a dev, this forum certainly wouldn't get me excited to do good work.

Generally, I liked the interview and the information conveyed therein. The customization options are awesome, for one.

I think this will most likely be locked or moved since it has nothing to do with skyrim but I think nearly everyone is justified in their position positive or negative because we all have different standards and ideas of what we want skyrim to be like. One person can not tell another they are wrong to dislike or like something or that their opinion is wrong, it's gotten ridiculous to the point where the second you share your opinion its almost certain someone will jump down your throat about it no matter your opinion on the subject.

I agree with you.

I'd have to say some people are justified in a bit of edginess but much of the blatant pessimism is over-reacting, IMO.

i cant believe that people expected so much out of the Q&A. they just set them selves up for disappointment. and their disappointment set us up for the flood of negative threads.
i find nothing wrong with anything the Q&A said.
its the devs choice to do what they want. and its your choice to play the game. or at some point change it to the way you see fit.
you dont like it. you dont have to tell everyone. because news flash... not everyone cares.

Sorry but I'd rather not have another great game franchise go the way of death, so naturally I take most things with a grain of salt.

And besides that, I think most of us have realized that the positive things to be taken away are pretty much a given. Really, what is there to discuss about the things we all know are going to be good?

Everything you said is a matter of opinion. Some of us, believe it or not, are quite happy with all the changes made so far.

I feel bad for any Bethesda employees reading the forums only to find all these people ranting about this stuff. There was not a single thing in the Q&A that got me upset. In fact, there were a few things that actively excited me. I think people are overreacting personally.

I love how some people bash the developers calling them lazy and stuff like that.... But yet these people have no clue how hard they had to work to get these games done.. My cousin is a developer at bioware Edmonton and he was away from his wife and 2 kids for like 4 days straight, stayed overtime many days and long work hours... He worked, ate, slept and craqed at his worksite for all that time but yet he was never given a single thanks for when the game he was working on got realeased... Good job people for acting like jack asses....

People keep getting overexcited over the prospect of news, completely overhyping the fan interview and everything else before it arrives. But then when information is released half the forum turns into a depressive pessimistic mess. They removed this! Added this thing I don't like! Dumbing down dumbing down! Whine whine whine whine.

Just be happy with what we get. No amount of complaining is going to make a difference, and most of the complainers are going to buy the game anyway. And most of this stuff that is being complained about we already knew for months.

I was quite happy with the interview. Some new information. Really, it's silly to expect major feature reveals in a forum fan interview. The marriage thing was the only thing that surprised me.

Also, 15 minutes after the interview was posted the 'online at once' record of the forum was broken. :D

3) Is armor handled like in Oblivion (with each body part being welded together) or in Morrowind (with each body part separate)? Will you be able to wear both clothes and armor at the same time?
Matt: The armor system is very similar to Oblivion’s. The main difference is that the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece. This helps create armor styles that have the look we needed for Skyrim. In most of the Nordic designs we created, the upper armor would completely cover the lower armor, making it unnecessary. We get much better visual results combining those pieces, and it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us. We can also make a lot more armors now, so the number and variation types are more than we’ve ever had.

this is a downer for me. they had to combine armor to get consoles to be able to render additional npcs. considering my 3 year old PC ran qarls textures packs along with AEVWD and body and face replacers and armor and weapons texture replacers.......this is just pathetic. and considering that the major cities are going to be the size of imperial city this means that they are going to be sparsely populated and feel more like a ghost town.

Disappointment? I loved the thing even more than I thought I would! That being said, my reaction doesn't seem to be prominently displayed throughout the forum, and I suspect that it represents the minority of those speaking out about the Q&A. What I basically saw was Bethesda doing their thing, making decisions, providing their reasoning, and showing me something that could be more promising than its previous games. No 64-but executable? Okay. No Spears? I guess some people would be disappointed, but if you're so eager to drop it then I really don't feel like you would have given us a good representation of spears. Racial differences? Thank you very much, sirs. Brawls? I'd love to. Marriage? That seems like an interesting mechanic to play with. Game-altering decisions that prevent advancement in advancement in certain questlines implemented in a logical manner? Awesome!

I am very pleased with the state of Skyrim. I am sad that some console-users are being deprived of a couple sizable features that they wanted. I am not sad about anyone complaining about the addition of marriage or the merging of greaves and cuirasses.

Naw, this happens basically every time there's a game coming out and there's a place for people to congregate and talk about it. Amidst all the "this is the worst/best thing ever" speculators are the moderates who enjoy keeping a level head and seeing what happens. The only problem is that they get drowned out in the screams of anguish/ecstasy.

730 users were checking out the Q&A with me - not all will post in the forum - nice to see the interest in the game though

For the record i don't care what anyone else thinks - if it was a multiplayer maybe i'd care more - right now I'm the one making the purchasing decision and am old enough to know my own mind in what I like or don't like - the Q&A had some surprises for me but nothing that overly disappoints.

Its the internet, hyperbole is the norm
I was quite pleased with several things

1. Getting married
2. Bar room brawls (which may well allow modders to use non-lethal combat elsewhere even if Bethesda don't)
3. The way enchanting effects will be learnt which will allow for artificier-type mages
